Even I know as a black man. How important history is to keep it alive. The parts you hate the parts you don't agree with. This country is as great as it is because of what we been through good bad indifferent & ugly. We are here now men & women of all races to FORM A MORE PERFECT UNION.
#stoptryingtoerasehistory
Lol, Dude You’re not Black. You’re The Real Jews. You have the most history on earth, why wouldn’t you not know anything about history? This entire world is about Black Americans, The Real Biblical Israelites.
I took mom back as she is from there. She hadn’t been back for 40 years. We had dinner at the General Lewis Inn. Food was great and we had drinks on the soft sofas in the bar. We stayed in a wonderful cottage in town with NO TV. We didn’t miss it at all. The people there are so kind. Check out Tattered and Torn antique shop. So much fun!!! It was a step back in time for both of us. God Bless All….
Love Lewisburg. Thank you for this video. I love my state of West Virginia.💙
My favorite place to stay in Lewisburg is the Lewisburg Inn. The food the last time I was in Lewisburg was great. I am a historian and wouldn't think about staying anywhere in Lewisburg but the Inn. Glad you visited the area. Thank you for such a great video.
Lewisburg is precious.
I grew up in Lewisburg. loved the Library.
I’m from Charleston. Live in Florida. I want to go to Lewisburg.
“Almost Heaven” West Virginia... absolutely love my beautiful state!
Live in Nashville, looking to get up into West Virginia on a vacation next August what would you suggest? Love the mountains, but I’m 56 so I won’t be doing a rock climbing😊
The Greenbrier Hotel was used as a hospital during the civil war and the second world war. There were battles fought in White Sulphur Springs and Lewisburg.
Also used to detain Japanese diplomats and don’t forget the government shelter beneath it in case of atomic attack. It has been beautifully restored and there is even an underground gambling casino. They have a world class golfing event, a clinic world renown and even a football practice field for any pro teams that desire to come and use it. My favorite is the concours classic car show in the spring. It’s owned by Jim Justice, the present governor of WV.
My mom and dad are from there, thank your for the video as its been 30+ years since ive been there
Wonderful place.
@@amyxplores810 yes it is. If you go straight up that hill by the cemetery, there is a restaurant upper call Jim’s drive-in. It was a pretty good place for the course that’s been 30 years ago.
Been here a few times! Perfect!
This looks so beautiful
Looks great!
Thank you for making this video I appreciate you ☺️
So beautiful thank you
I am a native WVirginian and love the state. Regrettably, I presently live in Kentucky due to a teaching position. Even after Virginia separated in 1863, there were still many people in the newly formed state that supported the Confederacy. Lewisburg is ONE of my favorite historic towns along with Harper's Ferry.
Hope you get to “come home” in the future!
I love KY, have done many vlogs there. My favorite is Loretta Lynns log cabin in Van Lear.
I have stayed at the General Lewis Inn years ago with my bride. Full of antiques and maximum charm. You have done a wonderful job with this video. Thank you from a fellow West Virginian now living in Pocahontas County. I am often in Lewisburg for Rx’s, doctor visits, shopping, etc. Have family in nearby Alderson and Barger Springs. Of notorious note don’t forget Martha Stewart went to the Federal Women’s Prison in Alderson, WV along with other past convicted criminals of some historical note like Tokyo Rose, and Squeaky Fromme, etc. This area and all over, our state has much colorful history. Great job!
WOW! I didn't realize that Tokyo Rose was imprisoned here. Thank you for this wonderful and awesome comment Unle Dave.
Grew up there, it’s awesome
I'm getting ready to visit there again. So fun.
Thankyou
"Food and Friends" restaurant is where i always eat when traveling through that area. Barnwood Builders is just a 10 minute ride north and worth going by. Beautiful old homes are all around Lewisburg. The town is very historical with plenty of tourist attractions. The General Lewis hotel is very inviting with neat old rooms in the original section. But beware, it's costly to stay there. Thanks for the tour!
Food is really good there….
@@IrishAnnie And the wait staff really does a great job and deserve good tips.
Thank you!
Yes, my aunt lives in Lewisburg and every time we went to visit she wanted to eat a Food and Friends. Such a great place. The fruit salad is amazing!!!!!
I loved this video and in particular the way you showed so many interesting places to see. The short trip to the cemetery was extra special, thank you.
Area is so Nice!
Thanks for taking us along!
Thanks for the drive 🚗
Love West Virginia ❤. Moving from Massachusetts next month. Can’t wait.
Welcome!!!
@@amyxplores810hey I want to move there as well from Massachusetts
@@nataliejanvrin1751 Lots of snow!
Wow!☺️😁
Really cool/thanks for sharing!
Been on Class RR twice and there is no restaurant half way up just a old logging camp and equipment. Also the only steps are on the observation tower at end of line.
Wow that grey one
Fortunately got to live and work around there for several years, as a newspaper ad rep and weekend limo driver. It is stunning, but the deeper culture is amazing. It was the western capitol of colonial Virginia and honey that is going back quite a bit. And it seems every house in town got hit by a cannon ball during the Civil War.
Who, thank you for sharing. So interesting.
I spent a week every summer for 9 years in Ronsverte which is next to Lewisburg. My in laws lived there and Ioved it .
Really nice episode, beautiful place .
My great grandfather and great uncle were engineers on the Cass railroad, when it was still a lumber train.
How wonderful, thanks for sharing!
thank you for this video. really want to visit this inn and stay there a few days.
God bless
Thank you for the tour. My dads family is from Craigsville. Used to go there all the time. Sometimes he would take a different route to where we could see new things. I enjoyed that and still do. Drives my fiancee nuts cause like my late father i want to go through little towns and just sight see along the way. He just wants to get there!
Very nice. When you went out on the porch of the Inn I saw a church to the left. I would have been interested in seeing it more closely. You mentioned the Greenbriar and Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. Have you been to the Homestead in Virginia? From what I've been able to figure out, it's not that far from them.
I have never been to Homestead, it looks wonderful.
The church you are referring to is Lewisburg United Methodist. I believe it was started in the late 1800's. The Homestead is lovely also. It is about a 45 minute to and hour ride away.
@@deko2485 Thank you.
@@amyxplores810 You need to go there! See Falling Spring waterfall on the way/ Hot Spring and Warm Spring beautiful places. Lewisburg is just a comforting place where your soul can heal.
Thank you Amy and God Bless you. David
Bar non for us, Food and Friends is best place in town to eat with Del Sol right up there. F & F is right across from Del Sol. Next to F & F is Corner Market, owned by F & F serving a great luncheon menu. Locals along with the college staff, students, lawyers, "O" students and staff eat there. Up the road about a 1/4 mile is Jim's Drive In. Great burgers. Locals love it.
Many upscale boutiques and two great bakeries in town. The corner green space has a small fountain the kids can play in on a hot day. Many locals make good use of it. The old pink house on the right going uphill to cemetery was the old town library now housing the college library. Community college is on your left across from Corner Market. The old house on left is Historical Society Museum. Many nice laid-back things to do in town. The Very Thing is a shop by underpass North of town with antiques, second-hand, and new items of all kinds. Very friendly and reasonably priced. Tattered and Torn has much the same type things, huge layout, a bit pricier. Pantina (?) in town is nice with friendly help, a dog or two to greet you and average prices. There is a new Biergarten in town we have not tried but is on our list this season. So much more to do and see. Come visit us sometime. Y'all are welcome here.
I've been to the Wild Bean and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg.
That used to be the Greenbrier Presbyterian Military school. My grandfather went there in the turn of the last century. Probably graduated in 1907. It burned to the ground in the 20’s and every record was lost.
Home of The Barnwood Builders Mark Bowe.
We stay at a sweet little place in town called The Escape that's super convenient for walking to everything, pet friendly, and not crazy expensive. I love the Market on Washington across from the Humble Tomato for breakfast and lunch - fresh, delicious, and friendly. We do a lot of antiquing, and Lewisburg has plenty of great options. Brick House Antiques is wonderful, as is the Very Thing and Tattered and Worn. I haven't been to their mini Carnegie Hall yet, but I will someday!
The General Lewis Inn is said to be haunted. Also you should look up the story of the Greenbrier Ghost. The only murder in the US where the victim solved her own murder.
You should check out Terra Alta West Virginia it's in Preston County
It looks really cool! Thanks.
Wonder where people work that live in Lewisburg
We spent two days and nights in Lewisburg after Hurricane Harvey. We LOVED it and would probably go back. We were there in October and it was still warm. I'd go back.
My aunt and uncle lived there!
Wow definitely trying Amys bakery 😁
I am currently looking at a house for sale in Pineville on New Richmond Bottom road, QUIET as a library down there at least when i was there, going to check it out again soon.
That hotel must be expensive but looks classy for sure
Check out Franklin and Thomas, WV.
thanks for the video! my family lived there for a very short time and then Alderson. i miss it and think about it very often. one day i'll be back for a long visit!
i keep hoping to see our old house in one of these videos. sadly i can't remember the street name. all i know is that we were at the edge of the neighborhood and just around the corner was a dirt road that lead to Alderson.
Thank you for sharing!
For WV it is also pretty expensive.
So you are an S.O.B.!!
(Short of breath!!)
West Virginia was not part of the confederacy, it was a Union State-Just so you all know that.
Yes it was! The civil war is why we became a state, breaking away from Virginia. Love my state!
I live in West Virginia. Many of my family was in the confederacy. West Virginia did not become a state until June 20 1863.
@@thomasqueen4521 I guess your going to tell me it wasnt about SLAVERY either.
Nope.
@@beckyb.4592 I love your state too. My mother was born in Hinton. I was born in The Capital of The Confederacy Richmond, Va. Thank you to the federal government actually getting something right and giving these men a proper marker in Lewisburg unlike the union jackal that refused to do so.
I live there lol
When we stayed at the General Lewis Inn someone told us that they people sat on the front porch and watched the battle being fought in the street.
Amazing!
It's called a mass grave😊
Why a narrow screen format?? I hate the shorts too!!
I did not realize that I was shooting that way. Learning...thanks.
The Confederate graves are in the shape of a cross. It’s important to look up “The Battle of Lewisburg”. The gravestone in the corner needs a cleaning. I would honor it with a cleaning, but had no way of knowing who to ask for permission. The growth is ruining the stone. So poignant.
Also check out the Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park just 45 minutes away in my county Pocahontas. This was a civil war battle as the Union needed to defeat the Confederate army so they could take Lewisburg which was one of the gateways to supply the battles in the west. Gen. Geo. Patton’s ancester grandfather commanded a Confederate group defending this mountain. The Union prevailed after a bloody battle uphill to displace the Confederates. Each year there is a re-enactment of this episode of the war. Quite interesting.
What was Harpers Ferry all about?
,music should be lighter ,truly should be able hear each voice "clearly" just like at gas stations geze
Thank you.
There are never any sidewalks in wv. I just can’t…
Yes, but... it's in WV...
Why oh why would you shoot this video in portrait mode? I watch CZcams videos on my 75 inch TV not on an iPhone like a silly TikTok video.
I did not realize I did, trying to learn. Thanks.
You’re welcome.
I know of 4 confederate graveyards in the state.
Droop Mountain has some plus there are a few in Green Sulfur who died in a bitter winter, as the rumor went. Plus behind the old courthouse in Putnam County there is a Confederate grave of an officer who fell in the battle at Winfield, WV. His slave attendant could not get him home so a family there, Hogue I think, offered to let him be buried on their property there. Eventually I think his family allowed him to stay there. The locals have since honored his service with some sort of a memorial. I hope the slave that took care of him was honored too. The war took a terrible toll on all sides especially WV where often brother fought brother as there was division here. There are also slaves buried there with stones marked and pointing north, where freedom lay. This is all behind the courthouse in Winfield, WV. If I err in any of this story I welcome correction. As many of us have ancestors who were in this terrible struggle, my great great grandfather and his brother fought for the Union with New York State Co. B 24th Cav. Regiment. Somehow he survived the battles of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Laurel Hill and Cold Harbor. He was a saddle stitcher at the front. I still have his bayonet. He was a shoemaker and skilled with leather thus saddle and harness work came pretty natural. It is significant to note that if you research joint reunions of both sides in this war, the men held no animosity towards each other but only comraderie and respect for each other for those lost and those who survived this war. There is a lesson there.
Makes me want to take a road trip.Take me home where I belong West Virginia.Check out The shepherds chapel on politics, 4 hidden dynasties, signs, parable of the fig tree, Antichrist, The mark of the beast, rapture theory, lost tribes of Israel found, kentucky stones, Bat Creek stones alot of information to prove God's word chapter by chapter verse by verse or Smyrna Christian Church, Eagle wings ministries,E.Raymond Camp.💪😇🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
They should have had the respect to bury each confederate soldier separately...that looks like a holocaust graveyard...
Agree
