    I love the 14D! Bought it instead of the Mten3 that was inside eWheels's container that went up on flames last January (no more Gotways for me since then).
    Gave it to my daughter who uses it to go to school, only wheel that will fit in her locker.
    I've replaced it with the 14S which I love even more. It's a bit less nimble, but still it's my goto wheel for commuting and shopping.
    The slow speed is actually something I like about it. I set an alarm at 25, and that slower pace lets me use it with minimal gear, just a bike helmet and wrist guards. So handy and practical. It's even pretty water resistant, which is another reason I use it so much.
    I love that you've done a review of the 14D! That's the one I also recommend to anyone who wants to learn. Even when they graduate to a more powerful wheel for sporty rides, it's still an excellent 2nd wheel to have. Cheapest way to get into the hobby!

      My kids love the 14d, me too tbh. It had more miles on it after a month than my S18 got in a year. It's just so damn convenient. My mten3 feels crap compared, less features so so sketchy to ride and double the cost.

  • @ek-nz
    @ek-nz Před 2 lety +11

    14D was my first wheel and I still keep it because it’s a great little wheel. The only reason I upgraded was to gain longer range comfort, but at the expense of manoeuvrability. I also have an Mten3 for shopping amongst pedestrians and the S18 for longer trips. I actually love the 14D for off-road as it’s so easy to control at low speeds and has great torque (although I’m not a heavy rider). Thanks for reviewing this wheel as I’m sure new riders will find it useful to have a review that’s not just for high performance riders.

    My first wheel was a KS14S with 840wh. It could do 60km on one charge with its 800w motor, and I thought that 30 km/h was more enough. I'm now riding an 18incher from Gotway that makes 50km/h a breeze, but I really did like the kingsong. The only thing that was awful was that 30 km/h top speed. I reckon that if it had gone to 35 I would have upgraded later. It still is a great commuter wheel.

    I think the new InMotion V8S is an awesome solution for portability and range. Small wheels definitely have a big market and I suspect once we get over the "race to the top", manufactures will begin looking at these again. Great video :)

    • @Ubeogesh
      @Ubeogesh Před 2 lety +1

      @@evgeniy19 if S18 can make do with 3 ||, then V8S can do with 2 || even better. 2 is enough for redundancy, and this wheel is rated quite low for power (2000W peak). IMO 4 parallels with the same total capacity would do almost nothing for it. Also remember, V8S is 3rd iteration after V8 and V8F, and those were decent wheels already (plain V8 had some issues on curbs tho)
      I agree that if they would find a way to put even more power and capacity into V8 package, it would be the best wheel ever.

    Thank you for this video. The scene has changed a ton in the last few years and while huge powerful wheels have their purpose, it almost feels like the smaller wheels are seen as irrelevant simply because (a) no one talks about them anymore (b) no new models.
    I understand that (b) makes it easy to lead to (a) but it doesn't have to be that way as you're showing with this video 😊

Its great to see the hype behind all the new powerhouse wheels coming out, but as someone who want's to get into the hobby after only riding a v5f for a while, I'd love to see more content around some of the intermediate wheels out there. Even if the models have been around a while I would love to see a "How does it perform in 202X" kind of video.

    I think there is absolutely a place for the smaller, lightweight wheels. For a very large, but I suspect less vocal group of the riders out there, these wheels are the best solution. I started with a V8f, and have always been very, very happy with it for my particular use case, clearly I’m not the only one as the V8 series is probably the all time best seller. However I do agree that many of these wheels really do need serious upgrades now.. it would be really nice to have more modern replacements for these old favourites before too long. And yes, let’s hope that the EUC makers don’t forget about the market for smaller wheels.

    Have a 14M wich is the nerfed 14D with only one battery pack and 20km/h limit. It's realy a good wheel to start, and to go small distances. Only one "problem" that I had was with riding in the wet, because if you pass a puddle, water can go to the padles and the grip tape will be less effective and your foot can slip on it, wich it was my first and only fall until now.

    Watching your video.
    Get a 14S. It's a 4 pack wheel (the 14D has only two packs), so it's a lot more solid on bumps and all that for a 88kg man like me (plus a 30L backpack full of groceries).
    It has 840Wh, just like the 16S, and so its range is great even for me (50+ km). At 25 km/h, the battery doesn't go down very fast.
    I even bought a 5A charger for it (which the D doesn't support with 2p obviously).
    Only problem i had with mine was a recent flat tire. When I opened it up, there were broken plastic screw fixtures (those on pillars at the bottom, around the axle screws). Some of those were causing a rattle I also had. Seems to run fine without them. Just a bit surprising that they would be made like that, plastic pillars...
    And you need to destroy some of the side padding to open up the wheel... Signs of age.
    But otherwise, a must-have wheel!

  • @TheStuartstardust

    I have the V5f and love it! Also love the handle which is nice to use against walls. It does peak at 1600w on the app, which seem quite powerful, but perhaps it cannot be trusted. To me it has good balance between portability and performance. Like others I would like to see newer/updated models in this segment. I would like better lights, kick stand, a bit more speed and an alarm or locking function over app. Also perhaps better safety in form of cut-out warning and speed sound for cruising, to keep stable speed. 🤓 But nice with an updated view on smaller wheels from a pro! 👍💪

    • @baptistek1917
      @baptistek1917 Před 2 lety

      I have the V5f too and I use it everyday since 2,5 years and under all weather conditions without any problem.
      But what I find really annoying is :
      - the range : no really more than 10 km. (and I'm 75kg only)
      - and above all the maximum speed which is about 23 km/h. It's too slow and I get bored in long straight lines.
      I think it's a wheel that shouldn't be bought above 450€.

    • @TheStuartstardust
      @TheStuartstardust Před 2 lety

      I do get a lot more range than that, are you sure it is the F model? How many km in total? I easily get twice that when cruising around. Another thing is battery degeneration, and keeping it charged at to 100% while not using is really hard on the batteries for any wheel. I normally keep it around 50-80% and then fill up if going for a long run. After approx 4 hours at full voltage, lipo degeneration starts to be aggressive. Having a smart plug with timer like a nedis can help make this easy. I would actually like also to have max change level setting in the wheel, to protect battery longevity. I feel like my list for whishes to features continues to grow 🤔😁

    • @kenspaceman3938
      @kenspaceman3938 Před 2 lety

      I’ve got the V5F, something’s wrong with yours if you only get 20 km. Are you sure you have the V5F and not the V5? I’m also fine with the torque and the speed. It’s my wheel for learning new skills, I first learn them on it, then the heavier V10F. It’s very zippy. In my opinion the KingSong 14D is ugly and the V5F a beautiful wheel…but of course, that’s a very subjective matter. I also like the fact that it’s slender, not as bulky as the KingSong 14D, it’s a wheel, not a box between your legs. So there you go, I pretty much disagree with the author of this video on a few things regarding the V5F, but I find it natural that people have differing preferences sometimes. Wrong Way is an expert on EUC:s, I’m just an eternal newbie to EUC:s, but I love the sport and mostly just do it for the fun of it. I have a car for my commute to work. Need to be able to carry stuff that only goes well in the trunk of a car on most of my travels. I did love the video and that somebody really talented rider talks about small wheels and not exclusively of bigger, faster and stronger wheels. That’s okay too, but it gets boring when nearly all the influencers talk about nearly nothing else than the “big is beautiful”.

    Yes Mr Wrong Way, I think that there is a need for small 14 inch EUC's. We need new people continually joining the community in order for PEV's to grow in acceptance. A larger EUC community increases the credibility of supporting more sustainable modes of travel. Small wheels provide an access point for a lot more new people to test their confidence in EUC transportation technology.

    Thanks, this video helped me focus more on the "last mile" solution that I need. It would be nice if manufacturers provided a wheel with great "last mile" performance. For example I work in San Francisco. There is free parking but on super steep hills. So a last mile wheel with enough torque, braking, and battery performance would be great. A trolley handle is also needed when entering the work building or the transit station.

    I’m in the same boat for wanting a small wheel. I kept around my Tesla v2 but would love a smaller, slimmer 14 inch wheel like my daughter’s MCM5v2. I even have a backpack to fit wheels of this size to go incognito on a bus or train.
    If KS made a new edition of their 14 inch wheels that’s durable, affordable, and won’t feel like it’ll fall apart with my heavier weight, I’d be interested. Actually, if KS made a 14 inch wheel with the performance along the lines of the MCM5 but with KS’s updated design style and quality, I’d be all for it.

    Hi Adam.
    Most beginners start with a small wheel. The main argument is the price, I think, before diving in the unicycle unknown domain.
    You have what you pay for, small range and slow speed. But you have either Inmotion quality and Kingsong trolley, even with a low price, and that's good.
    EUCs second hand market is fed by such wheels, and that's good as well. It will permit many people to join the community.

    No problems riding it at all, until the minus degrees hit here, came home from a ride and suffered my first ever cutoff when i was going to quickly cross a street.
    It dove and deposited me in the middle of the road, luckily i had waited until the cars passed...
    Sadly i didn't have EUC World still connected, so i didn't have any logs to look at, but my best guess is the cold + less than 50% battery left made it cut off.

Low weight is needed as it may need to be transported to shore in a dinghy. One feature I would like to see is a top mountable basket or rack to allow moving groceries in dolly (or is that trolley?) mode. Hill climbing is important, although, as long as I can walk it up the hill, it would still be ok.

    Only ever having a exn i really have been considering getting a smaller wheel as having only a heavy one makes riding technical for skill improvement more demanding, also way more convenient with just armored jeans an lazyroling inconspicuous protection an small size wheel for running errands and shopping

    Great review definitely a favortie euc of mine. I will say its very hard to get a tire on the 14d but there are some tricks. Also after changing the tire and inner tube many times I can safely say the main problem with the 14d is the innertube valve bending out and rubbing in the wheel body. This also happens on my ks16s and the only solution I've found for this problem is gorilla taping the valve down 🤦‍♀️ love my kingsong wheels but this has been a main downfall. I've even popped an innertubes when the tape gives out and the valve rubs at fast speeds.

    There is also a 340wh version with max speed of 25 km/h.
    Edit
    We need small wheels. The 14D 420w looks like a great wheel for in the train or bus. Great for that last 5 miles.
    Taken my V5f anywhere was easy. My Sherman in the supermarket 😣. My Sherman on the train 😫.
    I ordered the Mten3 through Lars. But Mten3 is more for tricks and to train my posture and balance.

    I had V8F. It has 100 Wh bigger battery. I did easilly 32km on a single charge, 14% left and still it rides fine and fast. 35km/h is not a problem at all. 84V is awesome. Motor axle broke after 560km so can you test if V8S has stronger axle? :-D V8S seems great 720Wh is awesome for such a light wheel. It is light but dimensions are very similar to my Begode T3 so I do not miss my V8F. Only during heavy rainy days :-).

    I'm waiting for MyEWheel to restock the MCM5 V2 to buy it as a small shopping/city commuting wheel that I can use with just a bike helmet and normal clothes. I've already got the Sherman and the V12 for longer distances and hardcore fully geared up riding, but I miss having a really small wheel to run errands and ride quickly without gearing up completely. I wish there was a better choice than the MCM5 from Inmotion or Kingsong, to get a better quality wheel, sadly the V5f and 14D/S are a bit too old/low powered for my taste, even for small wheels.

    I would like like you say an upgrade to the Ninebot E/14D form factor. Maybe an idea for the smaller wheels is to make them so that you can remove the batteries like e-bikes so you can take them on planes. I would love to take my wheel on holiday when I go to SA in Feb but its just going to cost too much to get it shipped out there. If I had a small 14/16 inch wheel with batteries that can be removed it would be spot on.

      Let me precise something : It's all the power a 100kg guy need for commuting. It's still accelerating fine and climbing steep hill is still not a problem.
      But if it's for fast acceleration, then you need a bigger wheel if you're a heavy person.

    I love my MCM5 V2 for its portability and performance, but that wheel will trick you into believing it can go faster than it really can. I swear, I accelerate from a crawl to 25 mph (40 kph) in about 3 seconds, so overpowering it is a real possibility because you could cut out before even registering those 5 beeps.
    But for careful riders, there is nothing better than the MCM5 V2 in terms of the 3 P's: power, portability, price. I cruise at 22 mph all I want with no fear and knowing there is still headroom if I need it. I hate the flimsy trolley, AWFUL speaker quality, and pedal dipping though, so not all is perfect.
    Shame about Gotway safety issues though. I built an entirely separate building outside for my EV's since all this fire stuff has become apparent. I also have a V11, 2 V5F's (my kids), and a Ninebot (wife).

    Would this 14 inch wheel be OK for riding in areas with many cobble stone streets? My vibration tolerance is pretty high, just wondering if it would feel like your brain is turning into scrambled eggs, or not.

  • @your_bases_are_belong_to_us

    i just got a 14d. I just notice that when doing sharp turns with the EUC tilting sideways, the pedals tiltback. But when i do the same turns on my old 14m, no such tiltback. Can you please tell me if there is a setting for that?

    Just for some clarity.
    What is your height and weight if I may ask?
    Just to judge based on the size and fit of the wheel.
