Boy oh boy what a voice. Back when singers had true talent and not remastered studio work. This man live is just unbelievable. One of my top 5 voices of all times.
Man did you ever get that right. It's 7 in the morning and I heard this song and is it raining at your house last night in my dreams. It seems like all night. Woke up first thing search it up on CZcams and here I am. That led me to you even before my maccoffee. Good morning
Yup! Back then when ya heard em com on the radio ya knew when the hell it was singing. This new crap they all are just jammed together. They all sound the same and the songs aren't country at all!
Just wow. This may be the perfect country songs sung by the perfect country singer.... Call me an old fart but this is just miles ahead of anything coming out this day and age
What would we do without the recordings? Perfection in voice, style and instruments doesn't exist in country now, but these videos are priceless. They proved its possible, but you gotta be COUNTRY.
First time ever seeing who Vern Gosdin even is. Grew up in bars and this tyle of Country Music is all I heard. I listen to it daily on my XM radio, Willy's Road house..... HOOAH!!!
Yeah every night I run a needle through Walkin the Floor. Great writing and singing. I could listen to that tune over and over .Well done. Love the steel and Vern's voice beautiful Beautiful ❤
How could they let half the shit they are playing these days out on that stage...what a tragedy! Vern is the man! "1951" never sounded so good! Top 5 country songs all time...thanks for posting!
The Voice! And a most fitting moniker. Vern Gosdin was of course a highly successful hard country singer but his contribution to the developments of Country Rock should not be forgotten. Together with younger brother Rex, The Gosdin Brothers spend the mid/ late 1960s as a country rock act and released the superb Sounds Of Goodbye album on Capitol Records in 1968.
My house has windows, gutters and siding this man installed during his retirement from music. One of the best dang guys I ever met! One of his family members stole him blind and he had no choice but to return to music...
A legend. His phrasing and range at 2:00 is evidence of this man's vocal prowess. Vern and George Jones may be the only two country singers in history with such expressive vocal talents.
Vern's voice was like fresh peanut butter - smooth. He gets on the stage and looks so effortless. Many singers look like they're straining and having difficulty singing a song. Vern singing to an audience was no different than talking to a friend a foot away from him.
Awww, what a fantastic thing it certainly is to hear him singing. Certainly one of the most famous Nashville guys; could sit and listen to Vern ‘til dawn. Great guy and his music will last for eons!! Loved hearing Vern sing!
First time I ever heard , "The Voice" was on the radio singing this song. I have written a song simply called, "The Voice" in tribute to Vern for a cd I will be releasing in the near future! I remember watching this clip on TNN back in 1991.
Country to The Bone ! The Voice...that Steel makes a fella won't to pat that boot are slide across the dance floor Shinning a belt buckle ! ol couple way down in TX jd
This is a brilliant song. And I'd bet that if you played this song on country radio now, 90% of the listeners would not understand a single line in the lyrics.
Optimistic note: audiences are wider than you may think. They'd get one hearing of that Voice and check the references on google, youtube etc. I teach young folk and many listen to 40s, 50s, 60s music as well as current stuff
I have to agree Ronald. My 20 year old son introduced me to “I am my own Grandpa”. But I also introduced him to HEE HAA”. When I thought he was old enough!!
@@ronaldlevao8251 The lyrics are kind of cryptic if you'r not versed in it. Most people may know "Victrola" as an old record player. They don't know it was a jukebox. And Google E.T. and you'll get a space alien, not the Texas Troubador.
Country Music wouldn't be the same without ole Vern... Him Waylon, Merle, Hank Jr., & Alan Jackson are responsible for true country after about 1975.....
'The Voice'! And a great song. I wish there were still a few people that could still just serve the song and let their voice perform instead of focusing on styling at the microphone.
Boy oh boy what a voice. Back when singers had true talent and not remastered studio work. This man live is just unbelievable. One of my top 5 voices of all times.

It's crazy how good these old country guys could perform live so good!!
One of the best voices in country music ever.
First time ever seeing who Vern Gosdin even is. Grew up in bars and this tyle of Country Music is all I heard. I listen to it daily on my XM radio, Willy's Road house..... HOOAH!!!

Many of today's country artists should let Vern Gosdin's style inspire them. Great! Thank you for posting this video.
I, also, was quite a JukeBox Cowboy. God rest your soul, Vern. You are with Ernest, I am certain.
My old friend, rest in peace. Love you man.
The man has got a voice!!!!!
If you don't head bang to this you ain't American.
Pure. Lyrical. Beauty.

This man has the Blues of soul.
Thats right that man had a voice. One of the great one's and one of my favorite Vern Gosdin songs . Really miss the man!
Vern Godsin is a great true country singer. Thanks for posting it.
I sure miss this kind of country.
Glad I was raised on Real Country music... glad that my kids appreciate it as much as I do... thanks for the memories
They don't make music like this anymore he's one of the greatest of all time hands down
Would really be GREAT if a company could make a CD of classic country artists/ groups and have some of VERN'S songs including this 1 on it?
Top shelf. THIS is Country.
And that’s the way it’s done folks! Vern “The voice” Gosdin.
Love the fiddle player. Such an understated performance.
My house has windows, gutters and siding this man installed during his retirement from music. One of the best dang guys I ever met! One of his family members stole him blind and he had no choice but to return to music...
This is old real pure country that will last a long long long time, thank you Vern
An unforgettable barroom classic. Rest in peace, Vern.
Wayne Bridge on that pedal Steel. This is a legend singing legendary on the stage of the Ryman.

+ILdairyfarmer It would sound better than the crap they play on the radio now for sure.
Or a menu!

Tonight's special is pork and Bee-ans. I say two-nights Special is pork and bea-eee-ee-eannns.
The man has blues in his soul.

Wow....awesome! I surely miss Vern! R.I.P and hope to hear you again one day!
A legend. His phrasing and range at 2:00 is evidence of this man's vocal prowess. Vern and George Jones may be the only two country singers in history with such expressive vocal talents.
If you can't feel the pain in "set 'em up joe" or "Golden Ring" you have never had your heart broken.
How would you guys compare keith whitley to Vern gosdin and george jones?
Daryl Singletary does a great cover of this. 👌🏻
@James greene yes. But u gotta add Randy Travis
Those two and Johnny Paycheck .. the very best !!real country !! then there was also Keith Whitley later. None to compare now days to any of them 💕🎶💕😊
Always loved this song, and the backing vocals in this version are a thing of beauty!
Vern's voice was like fresh peanut butter - smooth. He gets on the stage and looks so effortless. Many singers look like they're straining and having difficulty singing a song. Vern singing to an audience was no different than talking to a friend a foot away from him.
Another legendary Alabama born singer and musician.
And that is why he was known as "The Voice."
Love your music. Thanks so much for sharing and caring. God bless you always.
Ole Vern sure could sing
Jason Crose j
Hell. Yes
Do you reckon that's why they nicknamed him the Voice?
Yeah buddy! You’ve got that right!
His voice was raw goodness. RIP Mr. Gosdin.

Love me some Vern Gosdin! One of my favorite songs!!!
If you look closely @ about 2:05 you can see a small grin when he knows he hit that baritone note with perfection.......and he is right .
This is a brilliant song.
And I'd bet that if you played this song on country radio now, 90% of the listeners would not understand a single line in the lyrics.
All they understand is the bong bong rap pop shit !!!
Optimistic note: audiences are wider than you may think. They'd get one hearing of that Voice and check the references on google, youtube etc. I teach young folk and many listen to 40s, 50s, 60s music as well as current stuff
