Cucumber Castle is my favourite album. And this song is a precious gem, certainly in my top 10. Barry and Mo did a masterpiece. They are so beautiful and lovely here
The world needs to know the Gibbs wrote unbelievable songs like this at the drop of a hat. Barry himself may not even realise how stunning this song and indeed the entire Cucumber Castle album is, but if you include the b-side "Sun In My Morning" and the non-album single "Tomorrow Tomorrow" it is arguably in their top 5 albums ever. Majestic.
Tim, you are spot on. Cucumber is my favourite Bee Gees album (even though it is missing Robin). Such great songs and melodies and Barry’s voice was never better
The Bee Gees are one of the greatest bands in the world! I don't like much of their disco period, but it was good for what it was. Their 1967-1974 albums are revolutionary. Especially I'd say from the first album through Trafalgar. They brought brand new things into music both musically and lyrically. Many of their songs are very, very sad and that is reflected in their tragic history. Robin Gibb struck me as a difficult person, but I miss him, Maurice, and Andy (he was good too) terribly. Music is the only real immortality. It will last longer than any of us and may last longer than the world.
The first time i heard this song i was trying to catch my breath from crying for hours and i still did every time i would listen to it,now seeing the video my eyes are full of tears,Barry's way of expressing emotions through song is incredible.
This song is just gorgeous - and so is Barry! I remember excitedly watching this TV special in about 1970 - I think we still had a black and white telly then!

What makes me sad about this song is that it's old and I wanna visit this time but we know we couldn't. Amd also I wasn't born in this decade. What an emotional song
I love that they had their struggles and were sometimes on the outs with each other. What real family would not have their rough times. I love that they came back to each other and even down the line when disagreements would arise, they'd mostly work it out. I loved em even more when I found that out on bio's and stuff. It shows ya that money and fame don't make everything perfect. That's why I never went after that. Oh and a huge absence of talent helped with that too. LOL.
Barry Gibb is one sexy man! He also happens to be the most beautiful and talented human being God ever put on this earth! Add to that his intelligence, his sense of humor, and the loyalty he has shown by being with the same woman for over 50 years now, and you have a man who is about as perfect as they come! 😍

Yes, according to Barry in their biography, Robin was involved in the making of Cucumber Castle. It was during this time he decided to split from the band, and Robert Stigwood had his part that was already filmed taken out. The falsetto isn't good any longer and there's a large range of notes he cannot reach anymore because of his back. It's very painful to breathe deeply with severe back pain and that's needed for higher octaves.

"Cucumber Castle", was a British TV special and mediocre album, made after Robin left and did a solo album, "Robin's Reign". Neither was a success, so all 3 brothers reunited, resulting in a hit single, "Lonely Days".
Even though Robin wasn't there for the singing, I think Cucumber Castle is an excellent album with various styles. Barry sings his heart out and almost all of the songs are very melodic, and the music ranges from orchestral pop to slightly jazzy to gospel to country tinged. Robin is missed, but the album has never left my turntable.
