This is a very exciting video for me personally. It's always good to see the film community come up with something new. In this case, it's not a new film stock but rather the opportunity to shoot an already existing film stock in a way that it was meant to be. CineStill helped us all to have easy access to Kodak motion picture films but the removal of the remjet layer can cause problems and the use of C41 chemicals is not ideal to get the best results and this is where Silbersalz35 steps in. In this video, I am sharing with you what's it all about.
Hope you enjoy the episode, see you in the next video! :)

Fantastic results! Thank you for sharing this with us, that is super helpful.
The film with scanning is a really super price. However, for those in the USA there is 32 Euro shipping and 19Euro VAT. That adds to the price and makes it expensive. However, I saw when ordering two packs of 4 that the shipping price stays the same so there is a slight gain here. The people are Silbersalz are amazingly helpful and respond to email superfast. Before I ordered two 4-packs, I sent several emails asking questions and wondering about time, processing scenarios, etc. They always answered my questions even though I had not yet ordered anything. I'm eager to get my order and then try the film. Silbersalz is a great company to work with and they are eager to interact with photographers. If you are in doubt, give them a chance.
They use express shipping that makes it costly but also much more reliable. Like you've said it makes more sense if you order a bunch of rolls and not just a single one.
Yeah, same thought here. Why do US customers even have to pay German VAT to begin with?! VAT should only apply on national sales, not exported international sales. When you buy stuff from overseas, you will be liable to import tax - that should not be applied on top of VAT from Germany.
Nice one Robin! Been waiting for this video, really covered the topic well. Those reds on 200t look amazing, can't wait for the rest of the Cairo series đ
Thanks Hashem! đ Hopefully by end of July the Cairo zine should be ready. đ
Silbersalz offers a great deal with their service, I just ordered a mixed pack, thanks for the feature!
Have fun shooting! đ
Damn dude! Looks amazing! Guess I will be ordering soon!
BETTER THAN A THOUSAND! My man knows whatâs up.
I actually like the halation in cinestill but I can see why some people arenât fans of it.
Also, super jealous of your xpan. Need to snag your zine soon!
Very very cool and helpful, this is a game changer concept... looking forward to comparing the results i have vs other film+processing options i have... thank you so much for bringing this up!!
Another great video. Hadnât heard about Sibersalz35 and Iâve just ordered some to try it out. Thanks for the information. đđ»
Thank you Robert! Have fun shooting! đ
Stumbled upon your video and immediately ordered 3-packs. Looking forward shooting this film! Haven't heard from this prior your video, thanks for sharing!
Have fun shooting! đđ
Thanks for sharing this amazing company đđŒ I will definitely order a few rolls and try them out!
Cool! âșïž
This got me thinking... and excited!
âșïž
I watched your video on developing Vision film but how do you usually bulk roll it from that massive roll? Been thinking about trying that...great pics!
Hi Robin, great video! I just got back the first scans from Silbersalz a few days ago and I totally share your experience.
I have shot the Kodak Vision 3 200T and 500T before, processing it at home in C-41. The results compared to the development in ECM2 are not even close.
The results from Silbersalz are way better in detail, color and of course it is very convenient.
I will for sure get more of their stock!

Excellent video, Robin. Just ordered a couple of packs.đ
Thank you Miles! Have fun shooting it! đ
Just ordered some 500T. Seems like a great service, just hope the cost of shipping to the UK come down eventually. Thanks for sharing this Robin.
Very cool. Some of them look like slide film. Thanks for the heads up. Will probably give them a shot
Thank you Christopher! đ
Just got some rolls 250D and 500T :))) can't wait !!
Wow that is a shockingly good price for the film, developing and scanning.
Indeed, not cheap if you order from overseas but still good value!
When the shipping is âŹ50 for four rolls of film inside the EU, it becomes less good, and just plain shocking!
Nice video and thanks for the information. One question though, TIFF files being large, Lightroom takes time to load the image in dev module and apply the changes very slowly. How do you handle that?
Just bought a mixed pack, thanks for the info. Here in Honolulu large c41 dev+scans cost 25usd per roll so it's a no brainer to give it a try.
Never heard of them. But the concept is really interesting.
Looking forward to see more of the Cairo pictures.
EDIT: Just ordered a mixed pack. Competitive prices too. Film + C-41 development at my local camera shop, in Norway, is about the same price, when shipping is included. But the shipping seemed to be a bit on the expensive side.
Hi Tom! It's express shipping and it's better to order more than one to reduce the price per roll significantly. Enjoy shooting this awesome film stocks! Just make sure to overexpose one stop! A cairo zine will come in July!
I like the low contrast untouched look.
Lovely images a bit concerned over using the 50 iso as i live in the uk
What would you recommend out of the four films ?
Love the Chanel
Tolles Video! Danke dafĂŒr! Hast Du einen Korrekturfilter bei den Aufnahmen mit den Tungsten Filmen verwendet? Die Rottöne sind wirklich der absolute Wahnsinn!
Danke dir Jakob! Nein, habe keinen Filter verwendet.
First off - Thanks for sharing this to us and Second off- amazing video recap man! Loved this.
What films did you try so far, looked like in the video roughly 500t & 200t ? Those Reds with the 200t were gorgeous.
Also I noticed a disclaimer under the "Shooting" says " We recommend to overexpose by plus one stop." Did you by chance try that out?
Beautiful composition and media! Great post! Thank you!
Thank you!
@@therealsirrobin thank you for my first heart! I am looking forward to see more of your posts!
New video is coming tomorrow. đ
Love your videos and photos! Do you usually shoot the 500t at box speed? Have you tired pushing to maybe iso 1600?
I have pushed it to 1600 and it looks nice!
Hi Robin. Thanks for the doe this great video and the awesome tip. I saw they have a deal at the moment with 10 euro off of every package. It's way cheaper then shooting Cinestill and that film stock also has light leaks on many of the first images. Will definitely try it out. Would you recommend 500t for at night and 200t during the day?
Hi Geoffrey! Sounds good! Both are great. Make sure to give them one stop more when shooting. âïž
Keep it up sir!
Just ordered 8 rolls of Silbersalz35 500T. I've always been a big fan of Cinestill 800t but the inconsistency and light leaks with that film are sometimes really annoying. When thinking in series and books you sometimes can't afford these issues. Really curious how my films will perform. The only question I have is with daytime shooting. Cinestill looks pretty okay during the day rated at 400 or 500. Will it be the same or do I add an orange filter? Take care
Keen to give them a go when I have a spare $220 AUD for 4 rolls..
Fascinating. Did not know about this.
Now you do! đ
Does the package include a return label? Or do you have to arrange shipping to the lab? In that case you're looking at at least 40-50 euros for shipping back and forth if you include the negative return.
Oh man that's like the perfect solution ! i've been wondering if it would be possible to shoot this kind of film to get like closer to the cinema look with a film camera .... thanks for sharing ! cheers !
Ich bin ein wenig spÀt dran aber dein Video hat mir sehr geholfen, ich war auf der Suche nach Vision 3 500T hier in DE und jetzt kann ich es endlich Mal ausprobieren!
Danke dir Philip! Viel SpaĂ damit.
Looks awesome. It looks like your Cairo trip was red, red, red
Thank you Ben! đ
Amazing results Robin! How did you rate and meter the film?
Hi Robin. Do you put the developer you used on the remjet films back into the container with the rest of the developer? Any worries about contamination?
this is super grat, thanks so much for sharing; will definitly try them out. 10.- for a roll of cine film WITH developing AND scannin, is like super crazy great price!!
Price is good but shipping comes on top. Better order more than one pack to make it more reasonable. đ
hey great shots :-) but how do you remember with what lens you took all of these??
Thank you Fabien! It's kind of a super power to remember all the lenses. đ€Ł
Robin, super late question, but did you use a 85B filter on those Silbersalz 500T shots in daylight? Or did you correct them afterwards! Thanks in advance :)
No, I don't use filters. I haven't done it and will probably never do so. đ
I was wondering if you ever shot the second video you mention in 10:51 with Silbersalz 200T? I can't find it. Thanks a lot!
It's the video I shot in Tschernobyl.
Thanks for this amazing tip! This is what I really like, sharing knowledge and shops like these. Will definitely place an order with them in the near future. You should have worked on a promo code with them, you probably made them and yourself happy with that ;-)
Thank you Rene! Hopefully, there will be more companies in the future offering such unique and awesome products for us film shooters. đ
Can you bulk load film canisters from 400ft Vision 3 stock, then after shooting the rolls send it to them for the exact same dev + scan? Or do they do something special to the rolls when transferring them into small canisters from their bulk rolls?
Thanks!
I just heard about it and ordered a set here two years later đ
I just shot some rolls myself. Have fun shooting some Silbersalz!
Thanx Robin, 200T looks really nice - at what Asa did you shoot this film?
One stop over is perfect and gives the best results. Silbersalz recommend +1EV for all of their films.
i already heard about this project, it's really interesting and i'm happy you did a video about this. I'll buy a pack from them but I would know little bit more about bleach bypass? What does it means? How does it affect to negatives? Thank you
Bleach Bypass will give you a more contrasty look, with more grain and muted colors. But your exposure has to be spot on, like on slide film. If you wanna know more about it there should be websites out there that can probably explain it better than I just did. Have never tried it and probably won't do it.
Thanks for sharing!
I wonder what happens when they ship a 500T film abroad. It may be checked by X-Ray when you get the film, and again when you ship it for develop :\
I am ready to order some film from Silbersalz!!
NICE SHIRT BRO!
Awesome T-shirt!
Let me see if I understand this correctly. This company offers bulk loaded Kodak Vision film with the remjet still on the film and they process in ECN-2 and scan on a high end scanner for you. From what you're saying, leaving the remjet on and processing in ECN-2 gives a better look than processing Kodak Vision film with the remjet removed and using C-41. Would it be cheaper to just bulk load myself? I'm in New York and maybe finding a company in America would be cheaper for me to process ECN-2. Thanks for enlightening this idea about vision3 film!
Yes, that's exactly what they are doing. If you find a place to develop ECN-2 then that could be a good alternative. đ
But the price for four rolls of film, developing and massive high resolution scan as jpg and 16bit tif is just 40âŹ! This is unbelievable cheap! Here in Germany is another lab that do high res scans and the price for one roll, develop and scan in c41 is 20⏠only for the service. Means plus a roll of cinestill for example, which is about 10âŹ. I donât know about the US labs, but as I know, all labs in Germany with a lower price only do low res scans. I definitely will give it a tryđ
Looks very good option. The price is less to buy and process normal C41 without scanning in my city, and CNE2 film and process is better quality.
We donât have to forget that today there are no other way to use T film (Tugsten balance) than cinefilm.
Exactly, there is only two options left and those are awesome! đ
Erstes Set bestellt đđ» danke fĂŒr den Tip! It's a pity they don't offer a login for future ordering. The addresses (my delivery address is different) needs to be entered always i assume đ Its not a big deal really but just saying đ€
Viel SpaĂ damit! đđ
Wish they would do 120 film too. But still extremely amazing pics
did you use a daylight filter for the tungsten balanced film?
Was wondering when someone would do this again (there was a similar cine/ecn2 schemes in the sixties to nineties).
Prices are not too bad and the results will be better than Cinestill.
I wonder why Kodak doesnât do something like this themselves?!
It would be very straight forward, with them also getting the profits from processing.
Doubt anyone is going to get on their back today (Kodachrome monopoly trial).
Yes, Kodak should push this more, it's a great alternative and the vision 3 films are the newest technology that is out there!
It would be nice to get 100 ft rolls. Maybe the remjet complicates the idea on the machining and end user support front
Certain Exposures no, ECN2 machines are of course made with remjet in mind.
If you pay for development at time of purchase, then no problem.
the_real_sir_robin Vision 3 (technology from which is also used in Portra 400) more or less solves, or at least alleviates to a great degree the problem with low sensitivity of film compared to digital. Which other than perceived cost and immediacy, is really the only problem with film.
Helge Frisenette you misunderstood me. By âmachinesâ I wasnât referring to raw ECN2 production and by âend userâ I wasnât referring to 35mm film shooters. I think youâre missing a piece of the challenge because you may not be considering the industry as well as execution
Did you use a warming filter, when using 200T? or did you warm it up in Lightroom?
No and no. âïž
Hey thanks for your impressions with this film. I am also interested and downloaded some sample photos from their website.
When looking at the photos at 100% i had the impression that they had been "blown up" a little bit.
On the website from Blackmagic they say the native resolution of their latest scanner is 4096 x 3072, so something around 12megapixels.
Do you know how the guys from Silbersalz achieve the 20megapixels and what is your impression of the resolution of your scans?
Just asked the guys from silbersalz about the scanning resolution. Itâs different to the scan resolution in the tech specs because the exposures on the film are bigger than usually in motion pictures. Due to the bigger area on the film they can achieve the higher resolution.
Thank you for the clarification! The dint really apply sharpening to the image which is a good thing and gives you more flexibility in post. đ
Wow.... I got 8 rolls of this film and sent 4 rolls back for developing. It has been in transit by the USPS for 18 days so far.. From California to Germany.... I ass -u -me the film is good but the lag time is crazy... 18 days so far and they have not even received them yet... ...logistics are not good.. it could take 2 months at this rate..
That's the fault of the postal company. It would have been better to wait until all rolls are shot and then ship it with some sort of express service. It's not ideal to ship film around the world but the results are worth it.
@@therealsirrobin Wow.. The film was finally returned to me from Germany.. I mailed my 4 rolls of film to you on October 1, 2019.. German customs received the film on the 10th of October 2019.... The film remained there until the end of December 2019, at which time it was returned to New Jersey Post office USA on January 3, 2020... The amazing postal system then took until January 23, 2020 to return it to me.....
I am really sorry for your bad experience. The whole customs procedure can be really annoying from time to time. đ
100% trying this
This seems really cool, but shipping to the UK is ÂŁ20. If you want your negatives back, you are paying a total of ÂŁ40 shipping for a product that costs ÂŁ50. Far too expensive I'm afraid
Liam, I agree. I already replied to someone else that I am going to ask them why it's a lot more expensive to the UK compared to the rest of Europe. They are using express shipping only which might be the reason.
@@therealsirrobin Thank you for replying, sorry if I sounded negative. I think your shots were awesome (especially the 200T ones) which is why I was disappointed by the prices. If the shipping was more reasonable then I'd happily use their lab. UK shipping is much more than other EU countries, and barely cheaper than shipping to Canada!
Thanks again, dude. Keep it up đ
@@therealsirrobin Unfortunately it is not just the UK. It's 24 euros to Greece- I'd love to try their service but this is very expensive. Regardless, great work as usual, and thanks for fighting the good fight to preserve film and its survival in all forms
No worries Liam! Like I said, I am going to ask them about it. âïž
Thank you! Let's see if they can offer more affordable shipping to Greece. âïž
Never heard of them but I will order to try it. I'm daylight shooter so I will go for 250D or 50D. Not decided yet.
50D will be grainless but they recommend overexposing it by one stop so 25ISO It's just too low for me. I will probably go for 250D and shoot it at 100-125 ISO.
Did you compare 50D vs 250D? I will love link with full res images and different stocks. 10x for the cool video. :)
I mainly shoot 200t and 500t. The 50d is too slow for what I do.

No, haven't used a filter. âïž
the_real_sir_robin Ok, danke dir! đ
Does T film not have a blue cast in daylight without an 85b filter???
It would but a lut is taking care of it. You can also easily fix that in post if you so desire. đ
Would they recognize xpan format?
Unfortunatally I tried to get some films from them during a trip last week to Europe. They were closed August and openning in October. I imagine the amount of backlog they will be experimenting,
2 months? wow
Thank you
Do they also offer actual paper development to ship them back to you? Couldn't find any info on their page on that
I very much doubt it, as they are a motion picture company so they scan on davinci scanners so they scan straight to digital.
Don't think so.
I also had some light leaks/discolouration but only in about 5% of my pictures. Really nice colours. I also tried 250T, but i think my favourite is 500T. You can find some of the pictures at IG @duckafterduck . The colours will make it obvious which are the vision3 film.
500t is great especially in low light. For daytime I rather stick to 200t. đ
Very cool! I actually did a video on a company in the east coast of the USA that does the exact same thing. They bulk roll and sell true Kodak Vision film (with remjet) and develop it in an ECN-2 process.
Also, the USA companyâs scans are great TIF files. I did a 35mm 8x10 print of 50D at a local store it fooled the tech because he thought it was a digital image with a âspecial look.â
By the way, great production as usual. Starting to realize how much the B-roll, angles, music make things much more watchable.
Forgot to mention that the USA lab is named QWD Lab.
Interesting - it's good to see companies pushing the boundaries and offering their services to ordinary photographers. I agree about sir Robin's production values, though not so keen on the talking 'off-camera'. I know it's increasingly common practice with CZcams channels, but I prefer being addressed directly.
Jon Oates Ok so youâre saying you donât like voice overs during an informational video like this? Would you still like to see the b-roll or would you prefer not to?
@@CertainExposures I'm fine with the voice-overs. It's the head & shoulder studio cutaways to camera 2 while continuing to look at camera 1 that I find a little disconcerting. By the way, I've just checked the pricing from the UK - âŹ44 for delivery and negative return on top of the price of the film. Almost âŹ100 total for four rolls. Ouch!
Jon Oates if youâre USA based try QWD Lab to save on shipping. I made one of their TIF scans from my roll available for download in the notes of this video: czcams.com/video/YTtUOqY5xsw/video.html
Just tried to order some but it's so much in shipping cost :(((
Did u used a warming Filter with those 200T pictures from Cairo?
No, never use a filter when shooting tungsten films.
@@therealsirrobin If I may ask, does that mean you edit the white balance in post? Because they should come out blueish right?
That's how the scans looked that I got back from Silbersalz. But you could edit the color temperature in post without a problem.
Never heard about Silbersalz films, despite living in Europe...
It's rather new and that might explain why. However, now you know. đ

@@therealsirrobin ok got it..
Interesting. I've never shot tungsten film. I was under the impression that if you shot it in sunlight outside it would give you a blue image. I was also told that you had to use a special filter outdoors. But that doesn't appear to be the case. Did you have to do something special? Your images look normal except that the red is vivid.
I've never used a filter when shooting 200t or 500t and you can easily correct it in post. A filter will eat up one stop of light which can be a problem.
I tried them when they were brand new to the market, also had some light leaks but thought that was my fault. File size is a problem indeed. My 50d zip was so large I had trouble downloading it as my hard drive was still on FAT so a 5GB file could not be saved đ and the file size is to big to be saved to a free Dropbox... tungsten films (250/500) looked good filtered and like shit without filter and all films needed more light, so all were a bit under exposed. Not yet but possibly in the future.

It's not expensive if you think about it realistically. Developing and high end scanning will set you back much more than that without the film itself.
