Im mad they didn’t talk about Ojos Así, Shakira’s signature song that introduced the world to her belly dancing. It is my favorite song of hers and, in my opinion, the pinnacle of her visual and sonic artistry. It is the quintessential Shakira song. Don’t forget the iconic red hair. 🔥

Its called darbakah music and belly dance (apeared in egypt since late 19th century).
@@educationforblind6362Darbakah is a percussion instrument and it is not a music kind. Shakira is more inspired by levantine rhythms than Egyptian music. As she said and as it shows her 13 years old videos she used to dance and sing the music of the Lebanese diva Fairuz which is a totally different style than Egyptian music.

I'm Colombian and I have to be honest here: Despite growing up listening Shakira's songs and enjoying some of them, I never felt a real connection to her music. But now, I feel a deep respect to her as a musician, as a songwriter, as an entrepreneur, as a mother, and as a successful woman. It is not easy elevating yourself from a Colombian town in the Caribbean to super global stardom. My respects to you Shakira.
