When Tim is 21, his father tells him a secret: The men in their family can travel through time. Although he can't change history, Tim resolves to improve his life by getting a girlfriend. He meets Mary, falls in love and finally wins her heart via time-travel and a little cunning. However, as his unusual life progresses, Tim finds that his special ability can't shield him and those he loves from the problems of ordinary life.

7:13 y'all think his dad got the speech right because he kept going back to make sure he said the right things to make it perfect?
Holy shit that makes so much sense
Yeah! That is actually what happened (kinda). His dad got the speech right, but went back in time to change the speech to tell his son that he loved him
Yep, exactly that came into my mind
They tell us that he did in the movie.. smh
Lmao
This movie made me realize how much I value my relationship with my dad and how short of a time we have in this world and that we should make the most of it. For years I thought of having one of my oldest friends be my Best Man, but now I’ve chosen my dad to be the Best Man at my wedding
You start out thinking that it’s the love story of Tim & Mary, but you slowly realize that it’s the story of the love between a father & his son. I love the ending when Tim says that he no longer travels back , he just lives each day as if he’s traveled back to this particular day, just living his extraordinary, ordinary life.
I’ve had this movie on my DVR for about 5 or 6 years. I watch it whenever my spirit needs to be uplifted

Interesting. While we already know that his would-be wife would just go on to marry another time traveller, I wonder if her best friend Joanna would still go on to be the femme fatale she becomes for Ethan Hunt(?).
I wish there are more stories like these, where there isn't tragedy or just insane hardship
Little things that I noticed: 1) Tim tried to use his time traveling powers to make Charlotte fall in love with him. It didn't work. But, he never had to use his powers to make Mary fall in love with him. Even when he used his powers to become a better lover for Mary, he didn't need to. 2) The movie defies traditional stereotypes and categories. Although it is definitely romantic, funny, and sugary, It is not a rom-com. Although it has time travel, it is not a sci-fi. In fact, the romance and the science fiction elements serve to undergird the the central theme of the movie: "REALLY live life in the present with deep love and kindness". What makes this movie so radically different from other "time travel" films is that the main character doesn't uses his powers for banal and selfish things like winning the lottery. The results, although not unexpected, are refreshingly interesting. 3) Because Tim and his father are "in" on their secret, it allows the movie makers to explore their relationship a satisfying and unique ways. It could be argued that this movie is more about Tim and his father than about Tim and Mary. 4) Although Tim has the ability to travel back in time, Mary has the greater power. Her love for Tim caused him to let go of the past and to embrace the present.
1). He did use his power to make Mary fall in love with him. She has a boyfriend and he travel back to prevent that from happening.
2). He did use it for selfish reason.
I love how these days, a movie having no twist is a twist in it of itself.
Tbh, i thought tim would lose his job, divorce with mary, and get chased down by the fbi for some reason
for me, the twist was that i thought this was going to be a chick flick but it was about the relationship between the father and son
realize that he can travel time isnt a twist ?
What the twist for me at least was this isn't a regular relationship movie but a relationship with son and father.
@@munchken But I really do hope you realize it's "could have" or "could've" rather than "could of".
I noticed one thing though. One concept throughout: Most of the time he travelled back, it wasn't for himself. There were a few occasions like with Mary. But if anyone hadn't noticed, he was giving everyone else a near perfect life. I mean, look at Harry, they were at odds with each other (not hatred or anything) until the play.
@SpacePurpBarney I would have smashed.

This may be one of the best uses of time travel I've ever seen. Its not some random McGuffin to inflat some random plot, but is just a wholesome power to let the main character relive his life, and change his future for a positive. Its literally being able to examine all the "what-ifs" we have about our actions, how those actions have complex and sometimes unforeseen consequences that would of bumped into us had we not chosen them, or not chosen them.
hey what did you called him? McGuffin? Nobody calls him McGuffin!
Yeah, it's definitely a departure from the usual trope. Even his ability to go back and fully reverse his mistakes like getting his daughter back. Usually the character's attempt to cause a certain outcome just end up causing more of a mess the more they try to change things.
