    This the one where they said it was hundreds of thousands of dollars and when they went to a gem show they realized no one wants fire opal really. Maybe in his father's day it might have been worth something but today is a costume jewelry type of stone

      Saw this old one on a UK re run,
      It ended with this family getting six bags of something,
      ( As I know bugger all about opal ) , but THEY thought they had 250,000 ??, Anyone know wtf they did get ??

      @ijustcant buyaholdensorry that's what I was thinking, seems most of them would be better of getting a 9-5 job as the effort to reward ratio is like 10k a year, sure a few hit a seam but that's probably %5.
      It's like gold or the lotto 1 in a million chance 🤔🙄🤔🙄

    I remember seeing stacks of this as a kid, but I seem to remember that it was called "Citrine" back then? Can someone let me know if it is the same (semi precious) gemstone?

    • @janderss459
      @janderss459 Před 3 lety +7

      Citrine is a form of quartz, its not the same thing as fire opal.

      @@thvtsydneylyf3th077 while quartz is a form of silicon dioxide, it's in a crystalline form, while opal is composed of silica microspheres that form in rock seams from moisture deposits.

    @Reecefpv Před 3 lety +1

    I wonder if there's a way to dissolve the rock that's surrounding the fire opal. Idk if the opal would dissolve in the acid or not. But if it would work, you could extract the full deposit without cracking it up.

  • @texasslingleadsomtingwong8751

    I'm thinking you need a stihl concrete saw with a Dimond blade . Can br used to be more precise while cutting out large sections . This should help lower your need for the jack hammer.
