Killer!!! Thanks for the awesome lesson, Guitar World! Keep `em coming!!! Love this guy's sound and playing! Very inspiring.
This guy has all the best influences! I can sense John Petrucci, Rush, Steve Vai!
Awesome chops, great sound!
Excellent lesson!
now i can be a magic elf too!
i'm still listening to Heavy Meddle album
@billmeedog Right on billmeedog! Well said. I actually spoke to MAB about picking technique ... and he agreed there is no one right way to do it. Each to his own. If it sounds good, it IS good! Thanks,
Carl Roa
sounds like dream theater, this is cool
Haha omfg the sweeps are insane, I'm so teaching myself these :P
This is an awesome vid, 5*
you are the man, Carl
@slashy04 always remember that lydian is a mode of the major scale....for ex: if you play in g major, the lydian mode is C lydian....and if you want to flat a 7 note, than it would be a diminished 7, if you raise it, it's an augmented 7th
This is really great. Thanks!
For anyone who thinks his picking is "incorrect", why don't you check out Vinnie Moore and Steve Morse and then comment!
thanks for the lesson!
wow thanks so much for this exercices
suhr tones always amazing
I like how he picks with his entire arm.
this is awesome!!!!!!
wow, first guy that I see play like that using the whole arm technique... as opposed to wrist.... cool
The audio kicks ass in this video
@rwmcjazz i counted the 1st note of the lydian as the 4th of the major scale. so when i made the 7 flat (lowering the 4th note of the lydian, or the 7th note of the major is what i thought u meant), it lowers the sharp 4th back to a perfect 4th. this makes the lydian have the same whole and half step patterns as a major scale. i guess i misunderstood which note u meant. idk lol
@Atomicsonic1 Hey, I have the TABS for all the Elf Riffs lessons on my website. The link is under the Guitar World logo on my home page. Thanks for the interest!
Carl Roa
Having a bad day are you? He said the lessons tab is available in the link to PDF.
ive always had a knack of resting my right pinky on the pick board on the right side to the strings, does that in any way hinder accuracy or speed with alternate picking?
Why are people that play Suhr guitars all amazing?
By the way, is Carl left-handed (like in writing, etc.?) I wonder 'cause his picking style is very different and, being a lefty, I notice that my own picking technique looks different than most righties.
@instrumentalist28 and would it would become lydian dominant right? (if you also flat the 7).
Clean tone during slow demonstrations please.
@THEGSPOT0394 well, botique guitars made to your specifications are usually quite expensive
help! how do you call the lydian scale with a b7?
Sweet
@instrumentalist28 i know that but whats it called? :L
but the tabs arent working?
Great tone and playing, but bad picking technique. His slow picking is different from his fast picking technique. When he picks fast, it looks like he's spazzing his arm, but it still sounds fine for some reason.
PDF link not working?
wat is on his head? a mic??
What tone? He's using a crappy amp modeler with the gain and noise gate on 10.
@billmeedog Give MAB a break, he is left handed!
yup
kinda like vai/petrucci stuff, but more like vai than petrucci
I agree...you can superimpose the Simpsons theme over a Em progression say Em - CM - DM
CARL
genau.
@bskkid4eva yess.....good point
Eric Johnson and Steve Vai also
@YodaVanHalen your name kicks major ass
yes suhr, it is
......i just spent the last 15 minutes doing it by ear.
Fuck my life xD
"Really colorful"
@YodaVanHalen Actually Ed is more of a dorian guy, but I see what you mean.
and also Marty Friedman
he uses his complete forearm to pick. I always thought that's the wrong way...
obviously it sounds like steve vai cuz its in the lydian mode
@rwmcjazz a lydian with a flat 7 just makes a normal major
his sound kinda looks like marco sfogili maybe he use same amp
sounds like vai's giant balls of gold. same key. E lydian. Vai uses lydian a lot.
I think I heard some Paul Gilbert.
Mr. Show-Off....haha!
@slashy04 LYDIAN DOMINANT
he has a bad hobbit picking :D..
funny, it seems like he conpletely ignores his wrist for lead playing. (?)
there is no right and wrong in music. sooner you understand it, better it will be for you.
looks like a suhr guitar. bloody expensive!
funny, when he plays it slow he uses his wrist only :)
Sounds like Vai
@ 0:17-0:23
not tight at all.
2nd
sounds like vai....
Cos if you suck, you can't afford to pay for one?
Not true, I suck and I have 2 of them...
Lol this guy looks alot like my dad
@toppro777
Use your ears.
me too lol
@toppro777 Haha, you fool..
sounds like joe satriani
no, that is an orangutan
Lol if you put down $5000 for a guitar you better be good at it...
eww too much forearm...
