    If you can’t find your sensitivity pick a sens in the middle (5) and pay attention to if you are over and under aiming change up or down by 1 and repeat until you find your perfect sens ( play for at least 2-3 hours with each change and don’t get pissed off and keep changing every 10 min cause you won’t build any muscle memory )
    Also dont think you need a high sens to be good or to use shotgun efficiently cause you really don’t

  • @Qichar
    @Qichar Před 5 lety +7

    This was a fantastic tutorial. I play on PC but many of the principles are the same. I've been trying to train my self with focused reps and I stumbled on some of your suggestions myself by trial and error.
    Sensitivity: For PC users, I would say set the sensitivity to be as high as you can handle. By that I mean, you want to be able to acquire the target as quickly as possible without overshooting, just like coolguy said. Practice higher settings and you'll eventually find that perfect balance of speed and precision. I found out via trial and error I actually was doing poorly because I had my sensitivity on way too low.
    Target Acquisition: Again, I came upon this via trial and error. I was trying to aim too much with my mouse and that results in wrist fatigue and "tightening up". If your mousing wrist is tight, it becomes difficult to snipe with snipers or hand cannons. Get the reticle in the right neighborhood and strafe to make that final quick adjustment. This is especially effective if the target is in motion.
    Pre-Aiming: I couldn't agree more with this tip. I wasn't doing this and my enemies were getting the first shot off on me and I didn't know why. Then I thought about it. You want to reduce the amount of target acquisition time as much as possible. If you can anticipate your opponents' movements, then you can put the reticle near where you think critical will be when he appears. After doing this for a while, I found that my mind would enter a weird "zone" where anticipation became increasingly easier and my reaction times seemed to improve.
    Aiming: I like to recall the old arcade game "Missile Command" to explain the act of aiming in FPS. People think of the mouse as being able to easily and instantly get the cursor to the target, but that is not the case. There is travel time involved, and it has everything to do with your reaction times and mouse sensitivity settings. You want to intersect your mouse cursor with where the target WILL BE, and not where it is right now. That's the key to sniping. You have to be able to gauge the relative speed of your mouse movement to the target's apparent screen velocity, and move your crosshairs to the interception point, NOT the current position of your target's head. Again, use strafing to make fine adjustments on the critical plane as coolguy said.
    After I started practicing these things, my KD with a hand cannon and sniper rifle started rising. I'm still losing hand cannon duels against really good players but I am closing the gap as I practice. I'm a pretty old guy and I know they have advantages in reaction time but practice and anticipation can make up for a lot of it.

    • @swolegolisopod7340
      @swolegolisopod7340 Před 5 lety +1

      Can 100% agree on the intercept point with snipers. Started practicing big time when TLW dropped, and recently got a good roll FCF to work with. Over time I've gotten much better at anticipating motion rather than trying to flick to the head like many think it is. Also found out that airborne targets are by far the easiest to pick up clean snipes on!

    • @berengerchristy6256
      @berengerchristy6256 Před 5 lety +1

      I've heard the opposite: use the lowest sensitivity you can tolerate. also, I feel that good pc players, when they get into aim battles, don't use "left stick aiming" due to accuracy penalties while moving and no aim assist. they stop in their tracks and get the kill. that might just be for BF4, and I think its really personal preference if you want to get good. if you want to be top tier you've got to emulate the pros

    • @Qichar
      @Qichar Před 5 lety

      @@berengerchristy6256 These are fair points. I'm not a pro by any stretch of the imagination, so I admit I might be doing it wrong.
      As far as using low sensitivity, I found that I have a tendency at low sensitivity to "chase the target" and my bullets are following their movement instead of anticipating it. It's like those movies where a guy runs across an open area in a gunfight but the bullets can't seem to catch up to him. When I cranked up my sensitivity, I was able to beat them to cover.
      I have found that in hand cannon duels, which happen at ranges where it's not hard to get headshots, if you stand still to secure the kill you are very likely to die instantly. A good player with Luna's Howl can 3 tap me in less time than any weapon I have. I have no choice but to strafe to increase my chances. If they miss one of their 2 opening headshots, they won't proc Magnificent Howl. Crouching and sliding can help too. The point is, as I gained Glory I found that in Comp matches it became more and more necessary to move around constantly. Standing still was a sure recipe for repeated death.
      Your mileage may vary, these are just things that worked for me on my PC. I encourage everyone to train the skills that make *them* better and find the control configuration that they are most comfortable with. Only by being willing to experiment will you discover what you're doing incorrectly.

    • @berengerchristy6256
      @berengerchristy6256 Před 5 lety +1

      yeah, I think in D2 there is no accuracy penalty for strafing while ads. in BF4 there is. if I switch to mouse and keyboard I just can't drop the left "stick aiming" with wasd, so I just became a vehicle whore in BF4. in destiny I prefer lower sensitivity as I tend to smash my sticks all the way to the left or right while aiming
      you're right about luna's howl: I got it last night and its nasty. totally attainable by an average solo player. imo I'm above average at best. not forgotten on the other hand...nope

    Something that always works for me to improve my aim is to play some warum up games with weapons were you really need to be precise and that are kind of hard to play with. For example some handcannons with not that much aim assist but lots of recoil like the Duke mk44, or auto rifles like the Suros Regime were you have to consistently hit consecutive headshots to make it perform good in this current meta or a sniper rifles. When i play a few games with some of those weapons to warm up it really feels like i get an aim bot after a while when i switch back to my Lunas Howl or Trust, those 180rpm handcannons always feel so extremely easy to aim and land headshots to me when i warm up with those harder to use precision weapons.

    I used to play on a 3 for most of d1, I did pretty decent. I remember one match I was slaying while playing with a couple friends. Somehow the topic of sensitivity came up, they all used between 8-10.
    So the next match we did a “challenge” where everyone played on 10, mostly to show me how slow 3 actually was.
    I wanted to increase my sensitivity and gradually raised it after I got comfortable. I ended d1 and started d2 playing on a 5.
    I came back to d2 in season 3 and gradually raised my sensitivity to 7. 7 is definitely my sweet spot.

    This is a really good series so far. Very educational, ver respectful towards the individuals that may not know everything there is to settings and most of all, no bullshit " just git gud" stuff. There's plenty of helpful tutorials around on this topic, but this video definitly stands out fairly well. I hope this video series reaches out people outside of the destiny spectrum.
    That being said, I would like to add one minor thing that needs to be mentioned: When learning how to aim, use different weapons during that practice process! Especially in a game like Destiny, you do have aim assist on console and Bungie was so creative to give various weapons different levels of aim assistance ( a feature I find highly interesting in a positive way if you asked me). Swap between different weapons as some of that practice that you have can be affected by the weapon itself. In some other games you can find bullet magnetism to be relativly strong. Something that helps compensating aim amongst other things.
    If you can be consistent with any weapon, thats where you aim truely begin shine.

    Thanks for another awesome video :)
    Can confirm that most tips work perfectly fine on PC.
    - Horizontal aiming with WASD is easier and much safer than free hand aiming (Keys pretty much are like a D-pad, so you are usually running in straight lines). Strafing is also dodging and makes you a harder target to hit
    - Sensitivity is more personal than practical, since you can flick your aim anyways with MK
    (on console, I usually use a pretty high sensitivity since it is the only way to turn quickly too; which is important when jumping over/ behind enemies and having to turn a lot)
    I guess the only true way to improve is having a setup that is comfortable and to keep practicing your shots.

    The only thing I’d like to add is how to work on your active aiming. Personally find I useful to really home in on this. If you looking to improve it find a game that you enjoy that has a weapon with great hip fire. Play that game with hip fire only, just disable your left trigger fully. This will completely change how to aim and play a game. If you need help get some clear screen that you can put over you TV without damaging it, then mark the center. It can improve your overall aiming experience in most FPS games.

    For all the young "Gaming Gods" out there, looking down and disrespecting those players in the Crucible and other PVP activities, who do not possess your kind of skills, take a moment to appreciate what you have. Some of us (me included ) are older players who recently took up this game for...(enter own, personal, GOOD, reason here) . Scientific, medical, anatomical studies PROVE that our old, beat up, OVERworked hands, are at a distinct disadvantage to yours. The "Thinking" or "Brain" aspect to competitive gaming is important too, but natural or innate "hand skill" can only be learned, through practice, up to a certain age or physiological time scale, and then it diminishes, continually, ...for life. Enjoy what you have, while you have it, and have fun out there.

    • @dwightsbeats4274
      @dwightsbeats4274 Před 4 lety

      Yes, what we would call "muscle memory" is neurological adaptation from use. This concept is actually used when talking about things like weight training, for example, when learning to squat there are many things that go with it but repetitive squatting can increase the muscle mass of your legs let's say, but there are neurological adaptations just from repetitions of the movement. Your body learns and gets better at giring the correct neurons in sync to perform the movement better, or for example, to stimulate more muscle fibers more efficiently. Its quite an interesting topic. But, I'd assume the same goes with gaming. As you play, and actually practice, your training the nervous system, making the neurological pathways from your brain to your fingers to work a certain way. The more you repeat the movements, just like in weight training, the stronger those adaptations and neuron connection become and the better you get at performing the task. At a younger age, this comes quicker and easier for sure. Especially with gaming when considering the aspect of eyesight and hand eye coordination and response time.

    @kotickyle Před 5 lety

    Amazing as always, CG. I did just want to take some time and say Thank You for not saying "You should try to use something around head level" for aiming. A lot of times players are mobile and there are various changes in elevation of the terrain, so imo picking stuff that is intentionally not head level to get your retical on is just as important to me. Vex and Fallen have very different crit spots so helps me practice a decent sniper aim vs a decent shotgun aim

    • @CoolGuyGames
      @CoolGuyGames  Před 5 lety

      I think so too man. It's not necessarily bad advice to aim at head level. The part that gets left out and is the most important is the terrain. Head level to the environment. It's not always "clean" when you say head level. Most of the time it is not

    Great video and very helpful tips...
    but something that comes into question and especially for the game demonstrated in your video, and that is the built in flinch on console.
    In d2, if in a fight, aiming for a targets head and taking incoming damage actually gets you knocked off target up and to the your left. Reacquiring the target then becomes a fight because if your reticle is knocked up and to the left, the next incoming damage actually knocks your aim back on target.. but the average player is trying to adjust at this point and therefore getting ghost bullets due to the incoming damage and the natural instinct to reacquire the crit spot.
    Yes, if you play your radar right and have the drop, the concern is minimum, but let’s be real, we are shooting at each other with all forms of damage around us...
    How and where do we aim?
    I have actually started aiming at a players elbow on my second shot and thus, constantly getting faster ttk using incoming flinch to actually hit the crit spot.
    Are you aware of this, and do you have any helpful tips to this issue?
    I have spent the last year banging my head trying to understand why my crits are not hitting until this information was uncovered.

    Great Video CoolGuy, been watch your tip videos since Fall 2017; about the time we started with Destiny 2 with a KD of .96, now its below .80 :-(
    Tips are great especially for PVE content, I've become a better and efficient player.
    When it comes to PVP Crucible & Gambit matches, I have mixed results. Your tips are sound, I believe it's the game servers and the lack of match making/balancing. (It's not the path to the Server nor connectivity, I have solid +1GBs up and down.) Being in matches head to head with 4 critical hits in my opponent and still lose with a touch of a melee or single bullet. Or being in a group of 5 team mates shooting the same opponent and still get smoked (and I was close to cover and they were in the open). Found for a while now the Crucible game play is unfair from my point of view, spawn kills, getting shot while under cover/walls and even to the point I get denied kills of my opponent, if their fellow team mates time it perfectly to kill me first before the damage referee calls it a draw between my opponent and me. I started the "Word" Quest from the Drifer in the tower, yeah getting 60 kills in Crucible without dying that ant't happening anytime soon. I'm lucky now days to get 5 kills and a metal. Hahahaha Here's hoping the Xur has it later in the season :-)
    For your cold try this Super Tea.
    INGREDIENTS:

    1 teaspoon ground turmeric
    1 teaspoon ground cumin

    Crouch shooting if the player can manage and master it with a shooting pattern will dominate! For an example land two Crits crouch and finish them with a third crit (if using Luna or NF). Or one crit than crouch followed up with two crits. Helps avoiding head shots from enemy.

    I'm not exactly sure about my sensitivity I'm at 7, but I usually hit my shots pretty well so I'll have to check it out. Didn't know about the dead zone did notice it was a thing but I thought that was just the way the mechanic of controllers acted. I noticed I active aim And so glad you included the ads/hip fire bc adsing too long is detrimental, probably have work on my smooth transitions and flicks with stick dominance, I've gotten into a lazy habit of lining up in the center which leadsto "over commit" and out of cover. Ironically me switching back to a sniper in BA helps with pretty much all the tips above and helped my aim more because I'm more conscious of the choices I'm making and positioning.

You should be able to change your Look Sensitivity AND your ADS Sensitivity so that they are two different settings.
