- If there's one thing that's more interesting to witness than the evolution of Palpatine/Darth Sidious, it has got to be the evolution of his iconic actor Ian McDiarmid over the years. From the sweet and lovely youthful ginger that he was in the late 70s to the equally enthusiastic and witty white-haired celebrity he is today, Ian's appearance may have changed drastically but NOT his attitude towards life. This video is meant to pay tribute to his work over the years and display the small changes that occurred on him visually year by year.

Yep, no one can play the Emperor better than him. Despite me hating the characters. Guts I won’t have any issues with the actor, especially since he’s one of the many few begin Star Wars.
A great video! I have never understood people saying he always looks old. He’s phenomenal on screen and on stage. You did forget a few things he was in. 😊
Thanks a MILLION for posting this!!! I'm in the middle of a fan fic with a younger Palpatine than we saw in TPM, and this is SO helpful to have as a reference. Although, I have to ask why people always characterize Palpatine as a redhead. Ian's hair is more of a sandy brown throughout this.

Well he is definitely a fantastic actor! As for him looking twice his age, I am not sure if I entirely agree, I think he looked fairly young in the 70s. Besides, we literally have no photographic evidence whatsoever of him before he was in his later 30s, so we can't judge fully.
