  • This video shows how I am constructing the baseboard for the second module for Dib's Yard Model Railway.
    The baseboard is constructed entirely from 9mm plywood this time, instead of using 44mm battens like I used on the first module. Plywood is more stable than the rather "bendy" battens from B&Q.
    I bought an 8' by 4' sheet of 9mm plywood from the B&Q Extra at Poole which has a sheet cutting facility. You get about 5 cuts free so I had had to pay for a few cuts, but I think it was worth it for the straightness of the cuts. Although I suspect the blade on their machine could do with changing as the cuts were a little "hairy".
    As most of the work to cut the tenon and mortises was done between 4AM and 6AM, hand tools were the only option. I did use my pillar drill but it runs pretty quiet.
