yeah sex is cool but have you listened to 0:49 of the melee opening
Portersona I just wrote about this on this video. Isn’t it just much welcomed equillibrium to an other wise fanfare sounding intro? It’s so great. Really enables you to remember how you’ve familiarized your favorite childhood hero, whether it’s the legend of Zelda, donkey Kong , yoshi story, kirby n64, mario n64, earthbound, pokemon. 0:49 makes all those heroes flash in my mind all at once. Really nice
0:49 nothing can change my opinion about this part of Melee’s opening theme it’s SOOOO GOOD
0:29 just knowing all that Link sacrificed to save the world, seeing that slideshow of the events of Ocarina of Time...what an ode to such a powerful game...tears...
Goddamn I never noticed that. Have you watched the masterclass in subtext video?
I haven't noticed what that was till you called it out, I love this intro lol
The hero of time was one of the peak heroes of zelda. My top 3 are hero of the sky, time, and twilight.
I regret selling this game.
Daitomodachi i lost my copy when i moved a long time ago. I was pretty young so i ended up crying
what the fuc.. WHY WOULD YOU SELL THE BEST FUCKING GAME IN THE WORLD. UNIVERSE PROBABLY
It’s crazy this game is 20 years old today.
This game, and the games that followed, were all masterpieces
@@wyattmanhabel644 compared to the rest, smash Wii U is unimpressive. On its own in a vacuum, it’s still a decent game
Melee is almost old enough to drink alcohol. That makes me feel old and I'm 23
The absolute, raw confidence on display when they flash the logo for just a third of a second at 0:16, that's slowly become my favorite part of this video. When they showed this as a reveal trailer, people couldn't even start cheering before it was already gone.
Every time the Sheik scene comes up, I feel like I'm about to cry.
+Sleepy Hound Me too, man. That nostalgia just hits so hard. They're tears of joy.
0:27
IT'S POSSIBLE NOW BOYS
I haven't played as Ridley yet, but from what I've been told on Twitter, he's pretty average, not too good, not too bad.
0:29 is so amazing. How it shows scenes from OOT in the background and the music . I can’t be the only one.
yup, im probably biased due to my love for LoZ and OoT being my favorite but its my fav part with how the visuals sync with the theme. i also grew up with brawl instead of melee, so that part of the theme is the one i mustve heard the most and also my favorite :D
Thanks for pointing out the background. 17 years playing this game and I never thought to look at it.
Wow I never really looked at the scenes in the back like that, I'm glad you said that because oot is so nostalgic for me, prolly still my favorite game of all time
The Hero of Time got a portion of the song all to himself. And a fitting one at that.
Everyone’s obsessed with 0:49 and I agree! But this whole song is just genius. Masterpiece
I mean, it’s arguably the best part of the whole song and I almost agree wholeheartedly but this whole opening is timeless. I still have the game and I still play it 20 years later and it’s still fun to play.
0:49 just hits different sends chills down every part of my body.
@@kidplaysgame3590 I was just playing Kirby's adventure and literally heard this part, came here because I can't seem to find many people who know it apart from you
0:49 I forget how beautiful this one bit is. The charm, the choir singing, and the way the scenery moves with zelda and shiek. Just breathtakingly beautiful
0:27 And it only took 17 years for Ridley to actually make it into Smash... boy has time passed
I wasn't even close to 17 years old when Melee was new... and I wasn't even born when Ridley was created
@Lucario el trapokemón Melee came out in 2001, and Brawl came out in 2008. Where did you get 4 years from? Unless if you're talking about going from Smash 4 to Smash Ultimate
Whoever composed this is a genius
Composed by Shogo Sakai, the composer of Mother 3. And yes he is a genius.
One of if not the best smash intro. Especially considering 0:49. There's just something so magical about this scene. I can't quite describe it but it's just absolutely amazing. Gives me chills evertime.
The music, the choir singing, the beautiful transition of Zelda and Sheik playing the harp looking into the night sky. Yeah, it’s easily the best part of this whole opening but the entire opening as a whole is timeless
0:49 the most beautiful part I love that melody
I totally agree with u, its the only part of the intro I listen to. It's so emotional
Same I agree with both of you, it’s actually the reason I searched this video initially!
0:49 is literally the only snippet of music that I’ve heard in my entire life that consistently gives me mf chills every time I hear it. I love it.
funnily its the split-second starfox bit afterward that gets me rolling lol
Nitrotetrazole same, the Earthbound scene and Pokémon fires me up
It does! I wrote about this in the comments too. It really reminds you of your heroes. At 0:49, all the heroes I’ve come to familiarize myself with over the years just flashes before me. It’s a somber reminder of what makes us who we are. All the characters in smash just coming together in one glorious fun battle game waiting for us to bask in nostalgia through game collaboration. really nice
Damn, 0:49 made me emotional when I was younger now I have full on tears. Beautiful.
The French horns at 0:30 and links poses gives me happiness chills all over me
If they could remaster this opening it'd be amazing
@@Kaiissreezy cause if they do a new version of it it's like do supersmash bros ultimate
Holy shit, I just realized that when this game came out, Samus had still never been in a 3D game of her own
Parapraxium metroid prime came out a little before this. Or at least the same time.
@@sumlikedat No, Metroid Prime came out after. Melee was a launch title for Gamecube, while Prime didn't come out until 2002.
Work&Study melee wasn’t really a launch title, it came out about a week after launch

Happy 20th Anniversary, Super Smash Bros. Melee
My god, the memories. The amount of times I played this as a kid with my brother, this game will forever be in my heart!
I completely understand you! I wish I could go back in time just to be able to play the GameCube again 😢 the games are all scratched up now 😭
UltraSmokeX i know right!? Ahh no :( As long as the memories last it will always be nostalgic✨
@@sugarshot300 yup 😭🖤 thank God for our memories, they are a true blessing!
@@mtbnathan9624 same but the disc is all scratched now 😭 i gotta find a way to fix it
What some younger folk may not get is that no smash bros had the jump between games as the Original and Melee. The graphics, characters, orchestra , stages, and combat all were such a significant improvement from the first in just a 2 year span.
i grew up with Smash 4, yet Fountain of Dreams from Melee still gives me HUGE chills. NO other song i've ever listened to has ever felt so dramatic, so impactful, so "important", like it's the final fight at the end of a movie to determine if the main character wins or fails. The beginning of that song still feels absolutely stellar.
Tbh, the original was kinda more experimental and had a much less budget, but melee had the power of the GameCube and even though it was rushed, it is still very impressive considering that melee was probably there to show the power of the GameCube.
0:49
Is a part of one of Kirby song named butter building
A whole orchestral rendition like the segment in this song would be amazin
Fun fact: the choir singing in the background at the end of the intro comes from heaven itself
Alex Buell how do you know? have you ever been to heaven before? what's it like up there if you know what the choir is like up there. have you even met Jesus, god, or the angels
In a game that was so quickly worked on, it was given so much love and effort, the creators really pushed the boundaries of what a Nintendo fighting game could be, this game is still well alive with its community, a sparkling future to come.
I really hope Nintendo can make another project like this that really oozes the passion of the developers, SSBU was amazing but there were many limitations to what they could do (in the cases of World of Light and Spirits) imo there was more focus on amazing gameplay than on the charm of the game. Nintendo tends to play it safe now but the N64/Gamecube era of games was overflowing with quirk, personality and just plain heart, it saddens me to see how poorly they treat their older titles with bad ports and straight up never acknowledging them even though they’re some of the best memories of Nintendo games for many people.
BoTW and Metroid Dread were both steps in the right direction but we’ll have to see where Nintendo keeps going. I want to see more of their signature quirk from their games in the future and their consoles. (The switch UI is a little depressing.) One thing I loved about Nintendo is that you couldn’t get that whimsical experience anywhere else. Now it feels like Nintendo is solely depending on their iconic characters and titles to get people to stick around.
the frame at 00:17 always gave me chills. so epic.
It's really cool how they brought those four back for the Brawl reveal years later.
0:35 They Are Running Away From The IRS After Committing Tax fraud
UniqueDough lol I also say "lol" physically and mentally upon stumbling upon a fragment of humor related to the fictional green dinosaur known as Yoshisaurus B. Munchikoopa commiting the crime of tax fraud. lol!
1:03 so neat to see the world of Earthbound rendered in a 3D environment.
Ness’s teleportation looks exactly like the Delorean from Back To The Future!
Oh and MR. SATURN. How could I forget?
0:07 when I saw this as a kid I literally couldn’t believe my eyes. Absolutely legendary.
Agree 100%. The first time I saw this blew my mind away. I was like, “Wow Mario is really being praised like a pedestal! Mario is dang awesome!”
@@Oscar-Guzman i read that as Mario is being pleased like a pedestal and I was like ya that makes sense too he deserves it
@@SueMeriah that pause is epic, it adds so much tension in a fraction of a second. This is legit the perfect trailer and intro it’s still top tier to this day
Friendly reminder: out of anything such as Master Hand, Galeem and all the bullshit from Subspace Emissary, a Bob-Omb is just as capable as them to turn characters into trophies.
So is no one gonna talk about Ridley, Wolf, and Samurai Gorro are in this.
Straight up magic.
I'll never forget the day I saw this trailer. My 13 year old mind was truly blown beyond belief that day.
Also imo, this intro is still the best Smash Bros opening.
+ΛDI N-No the Smash four intro or Brawl was better-NO! This is the best intro to Smash brothers.
TheGoldenMarowak FIRE ALL MISSILES! SOMEONE DOES NOT AGREE WITH A DUMB OPINION!!!!!!!!!!!
I am 30 years old. This shit still brings genuine tears and emotions. Such excitement, so much power in a single video.
0:49 this part is simply just legendary
Best Smash Bros intro without a doubt
Happy 20th anniversary Melee! 🎂🎉
We've made it! At the time I'm posting this of December 3rd, 2021, Super Smash Bros. Melee is now a 20 year-old game. This is the first Smash game I've ever played. I played it since around 2009. It's so nostalgic to me and an amazing game. It has a decent character roster, great gameplay, the best intro, and amazing soundtracks.
Thank you Masahiro Sakurai for making not only an excellent video game, but also a work of art. Same applies to the latest Smash game. ❤

0:49 to 1:02 is the best part to me
Thanos is G A Y i literally said what, calm your tits. how about you fuck off with your ‘why is the internet so brainless’ i didn’t fucking understand. fuck you idiot lol
The beginning is just a masterpiece: the trophy thrown with such force it's in the sky that short little shine at the peek and then falls aggressively and just as it stops the transformation glow from the bottom stopped by the dramatic pause to a black screen showing nintendo being like "yeah we made this, yeah we bad ass" (before the company started being greedy fucks) and all the way the music in sync holy frick!
i can watch this opening every day and be like damn this will always be my favorite game of all time!
2023 and this intro is still goated 🐐

On this day 20 years ago, Super Smash Bros. Melee released in Japan on Nintendo GameCube.
Happy 20th anniversary Super Smash Bros Melee
This legend is never gonna died
That Shiek part is just majestic, thanks to the beautiful music and crisp animation. The power of Kirby music combined with the will and effort of emotion is astounding. I will always come to this video.
I stared at this for like 20 seconds thinking it said "That Shrek part" and I was so confused.
Everybody talking about 00:49 but can we talk about how cool this shot is 1:19???
1:23 it still gives chills even more than the whole intro. Love this game
The way he say "SUPER SMASH BROTHER, MELEE!!!" it makes me hype about this game
When the explosion happens and this guy starts yelling I remember my cousin and I would be screaming to the top of our lungs at 5 AM
This moment is why I searched this video. MELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeuh
15 years my friends
one of my alltime favorite childhood games man . . . this intro you have to play every time at the max fucking volume and scream with the announcer SUPER SMASH BROTHERS, MELEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Of all the SSB intros, Melee remains undefeated!
The late 90s, early 2000s, were so artistical for videogames, the beginning of the intro it's so symbolical, Mario coming back to life, it's like a way to say ''You're not only a videogame character, you're here for something epic, and that it's, battling''. I love the way it portray the characters.
The songs lyrics:
SUPER SMASH BROTHERS MELEEEEEEEEEEE
(No need to thank me :))
Lyrics:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!
DK: Huh?
Yoshi: Etham! (tongue shoot)
Zelda: YA!
Link:Grrrrr!
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuh uuuuuuuuuuuuuh uuuuuuuuuuuuuuh uuuh uuuh uuuuuuuuh uuuh uhhh uuuuuuuuuuuuuuhuuuuuuuuuuh(transfer to opera)
Ha Haaaaaaaaaaa Ha..... HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
VoiceOver during the Ha part: SUPER SMASH BROTHERS MEEELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
the intro predicted amiibos
Throwing the Mario trophy represents people throwing away the animal crossing party amiibos.
actually i think the opening inspired them partially with actually making them
We got a black GameCube and ordered super smash bros melee on Christmas. Our old platinum didn’t work anymore. So I haven’t heard this in so long. And the past few years all I could hear was the melody from Sheiks part of this intro. The day before new years though, we finally got the game. I put the disc in and nah man. 0:49 almost made me cry of joy :)
As a kid I always thought this was one of the most badass openings ever and still do. It made me want a story mode for Smash so bad and I was so hyped when I saw that Brawl had one. It wasn't all that great but the cutscenes in it were amazing and it was cool seeing all the characters come together
sheik and zelda is the best part D:
actually the DK part (aerial view) is the best one and the sheik part is the 2nd best.
its a sound track made esp for the game im guessing i really havent heard it any where else...
Such an incredible memory
This is one of, if not the best cinematic in video game history.
I just realized something.
The part where DK's getting shocked by Samus' charged energy ball is a reference to the first Smash Bros. intro where DK and Samus are fighting.
@@mhead1117 OK, then why in the world would they show Mewtwo's attacks when there are no other locked characters in this intro?
@@bombabombom3603 have you played melee?? it looks exactly like mewtwos attack...why not make it look like samus' attack if it was samus' attack? its just an easter egg.
@@bombabombom3603 well in the intro you can see Ganondorf, Pichu, and Jigglypuff. They're locked at the beginning of the game.
The Sheik scene is my favourite
I had a massive crush on Sheik because of that scene when I was younger 😂 used to think she was a boy!
+The Shiny Greninja because in melee the characters of the Zelda game were based on the Ocarina of Time game, the only character based on Majora's Mask was young link and was a unlockable secret character, so, the had to keep it "secret" (not really since termina great bay was a stage in the game).
I love how good it looks when Ness comes flying out of that portal via PK teleport
wow.. today is the day i say happy 20th birthday to this beautiful masterpiece
Nintendo should just remake this opening in each new games with better graphics and new characters. wouldnt complain.
0:49 to 0:50 That part is so beautiful with Sheik and Zelda. 💫
Honestly, the Nintendo devs should make a scene where they both meet each other
As sad or crazy as this may sound... This opening gives me such an intense feeling of nostalgia that i have goosebumps over my whole body the entire time and sometimes even tear up and cry. Ive never felt this level of nostalgia with anything else
I still remember grinding those last two event matches to this day. Amazing and beautiful game.
and this whole time I was thinking I'm the only one that is experiencing this. Crazy innit.
I understand the feeling. Melee was my first video game and watching this intro for the first time as a 5 year old gave me a feeling I still can’t put into words. This intro and game itself have loads of sentimental value to me
Mario sunshine, double dash, wind waker, twilight princess, metroid prime, echoes, smash melee, pikmin, luigi's mansion. i miss my childhood so much right now.
TheAgentofthesystem
I wouldn't say you're a child at that point anymore, but without nitpicking, I agree. I'm one year older than you and all those games (except Pikmin) were part of that period of my life. I miss those times.
OMG my childhood was also all this mainly metroid games, GAME CUBE FOREVER !!!!
That “Melee” gets me teary eyed
At the end when the announcer just says *SUPER SMASH BROTHERS, MELEE!!!!!* brings tears and nostalgia at the exact same time
I absolutely love that the screen goes black, the music stops and it just says Nintendos All Stars in.. then just right back into like nothing happened
20 years and counting on
