A few months ago, in May 2023, Aaron Marshall and the Intervals gang rolled through our mutual hometown of Toronto, supporting Spiritbox on their sold out "Eternal Blue 2023" tour through the US and Canada. Before very kindly treating the SH staff to an incredible show, Aaron swung by the office to coach us through some of the trickier sections from his song "Lock & Key."

budding and novice guitarist just discovering this guy and how talented he is holy shit. such a musically gifted individual
This riff has become my go-to warmup 💖 so good. I would learn the rest of the song too if I didn’t leave my oven on at the dentist 😅
It’s such a tricky riff to get down but it did wonders for my hybrid picking after learning it!
Bought every album. Loving it. Hoping for mnemonic to show up soon!
Tab has small mistake on 4:19. You can see Aaron grabs the 5 fret on the B string again there with his index fret finger (hybrid picking with middle finger). It should read 975 not 979 at the end of that measure like the previous section of it. Also same tab mistake repeated at 4:43 during the clean playthrough
Both 5 on B string and 9 on G string are the same note E but the tab should match what he plays and explained.
I always thought it's only the highest note / notes on the B string that get hybrid picked. Now I have to try it your way. Thanks for the video!
Really appreciate this
Does anyone have any info on that guitar or is it a custom? His signature has a reverse headstock and wenge, but I love the roasted maple of this and would buy it instantly.
I see a bunch of The Shape of Colours back there!
Definitely my fav song of the album! Will there be videos of Jacob explaining the bass parts?
We would love to get Jacob in to do something similar. We'll try to get that set up.
I want this Guitar, dang it s a beauty
I thought it was an ibanez AZ, apparently not.
It's a suhr.
I still feel like I’m too much of a beginner for this. I’ve become comfortable with memorizing the major scale in 5 positions and can’t wait until I get good enough to use this book
yeah dude, this stuff is so advance coming from a 10 years of playing guitar. My suggestion is to master solo from avenged sevenfold , trivium, august burns red and as i lay dying. These band provide metal solo fundemental for playing stuff like aaron, polyphia, sithu aye, periphery, plini. Good luck bro.
Imo the sooner you start working on things that you think are “too hard” the faster you realize that it’s all a mental barrier, of course it differs from person to person but that’s how it was for me. Good luck on your journey man!
Just a matter of tempo, practice it at low BPM, very slowly and clean
Crazy riff
I’m considering getting the tab book for this album. I get option paralysis when trying to learn songs online.
We completely, obviously unbiasedly, think you should buy the tab book.
I cannot for the life of me get his hybrid picking down. I can do it at 90% speed with both long and ring finger, but he seems to only be using his long finger and I cannot wrap my brain around it lol
Is that another AM Schecter sig??? 👀
I'm still messing around with the In Time tabs... finishing learning epiphany is high on the priority list lol be cool if that had jam tracks too
Is there a UK distributor for Sheet Happens? I’d love to buy the Circadian tab book.
YO! Sheet Happens…question??? Is that Monstera plant in the window real or fake?!?
Haha it’s real
What are you effects are you using where you guitar sort of sounds like a synth?
Unless I’m totally off here, his theory is fucked because by stacking fifths, you are omitting your 3rd, meaning that these are not 9ths.
Instead, he’s outlining suspended 2nd chords because the 3rd is substituted for the 2nd in the progression.
Sell me that green guitar pls n ty
never seen that ibanez before
I’ve had the book for a while, but didn’t realize it was hybrid picked. I thought he was just crazy lol.
