- A look at some of Rip’s most memorable Yellowstone moments, from his first day on the ranch to his bond with Beth.
#Yellowstone #ParamountNetwork
Yellowstone is a drama series that follows the Dutton family, led by patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner). The Duttons control the largest contiguous ranch in the U.S. and must contend with constant attacks by land developers, clashes with an Indian reservation and conflict with America's first national park.

Casting Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler was pure genius. That man was born to play that character. He totally deserves whatever award they give to amazing actors.
I AGREE
My man totally deserves a Dundie award
the show isnt woke so it wont win the awards it deserves
it's definitely another one of those occasions where actor meets part and boom!
Agree, strongly agree. I didn't get into the show until season 3 and he was a big reason why. Was visiting my mother during a marathon for the season premiere and got into the show and after 2 episodes I said Rip was an awesome character and mom asked if I recognized him and I said no and she was like that's Cole Hauser. Blew me away I didn't even recognize him
I love his reaction when he finds out the cabin belongs to him and that John Dutton thinks of him as a son.
Hate to admit it, but that brought a tear to my eye too.
good writing -- great acting
THAT PART MADE ME SHED SOME TEARS. VERY STRONG SCENE.
One of the best scenes so far!
The cabin?
I understood it as Rip inheriting Yellowstone Ranch. And Rip being more focused on being called his son than inheriting the Ranch.
Rip's character is the definition of a warrior poet. Deeply devoted to what matters, a true gentleman to his lady, but very dangerous to anyone who would harm what he loves.
@@neanderthal- Real men don't seek to become criminals. You should cash in a fucking reality check before you go seeking guidance from TV dramas.
Warrior poet! Love that and it’s so true!
He’s a lion
Well said.
Rip is an evil man and beth is an evil woman. Their characters find common place in the fact they are both terrible humans who cannot redeem themselves for their actions.
I love when Beth is making some obscure point, and Rip responds without a trace of irony, “Beth, I don’t know what that means.”
and she says “I know you don’t, honey”
classic
Or when she’s talking about tantric sex. 🤣
@@steffnic13 OMG, that was hilarious. “Tantric?” “Rip, don’t encourage her… You’re throwing gas on the fire.” LOL
I cried when RIP got acknowledged as a son and got the house.
The kid though....Beth's attempt at a new generation of RIP. RIP's take...you either get busy living, or you get busy dying....make a choice...real soon. Tough love is underrated....builds character.

I could be a man's man if somebody was writing a script for my life.

Def my favorite character but he’s not some great guy. Helping hide bodies of innocent murder victims and killing coroners , dudes a step removed from being a psychopath. Awesome character tho and would prob be a great dude to have as ur neighbor long as u don’t piss him off
@@jared699 he is actually being used and is a beta male in the show if you pay close attention. Sort of like the tough guys in sopranos
@@evodgamehunter4290 yes, I can agree with that
The way Rip treats Beth with no ego and pure love is a great character study for all men. I sure learned a lot on how to react to my wife seeing him.
As hard and rough as Rip was he, more than anyone I’ve ever seen, truly knew what love was. His love for the Yellowstone (John) and for Beth was pure and unadulterated. He never asked for anything, but gave all he has and understands that by giving freely he is also receiving. Beth is so lucky to have someone with Rips quiet understanding to be so in love with her. He truly understands that loyalty comes from a place of love and not debt.
Saying you're married is better 😊
BETAAAA 🗣️
@@greyson7379One thing I've learned over the last few years. Anyone who uses terms like "beta or alpha" is always 100% a beta. I was gonna use another word that starts with P. Rip had awesome respect for his Mother which, was shown when he was giving his weekly wages towards her headstone (& his brother's headstone too!)

The definition of loyalty and debt of gratitude. He's my fave character of the show. If they kill him off or left the show then thats it for me.

Rip absolutely makes the show. By the time he was a teenager he'd already been to Hell and back a few times, Thank God JD gave him a chance. Yes he is such a complex character and so tough, yet he has that soft side and that good heart. His connection with Beth is a connection that most people never get to experience in their life. @@eriefate508nope, she's my hero as well. She's my spirit animal.
Josh Lucas was the perfect choice to play a younger John Dutton. His mannerisms, his look, and voice are dead on incredible.
I love the look that Beth gives to Rip while he’s talking and teaching Tate, that look that you only give to YOUR person, YOUR soul mate. Just the strongest and most sincere look of “I love you more than existence itself.” You know she just loves him so much, nobody else can soothe and tame her soul like Rip.
Yet she got knocked up by him at 16, went to 18 year old Jaime for help with an abortion, blames Jaime for it and now we’re supposed to feel sorry for her. Sorry. Rip is still the best character on the show, but Beth is the worst.
@@michaelhyland4774 She's pissed at Jaime because he arranged for you to be sterilized while the abortion was being done. He stole her ability to ever have a child when she was ready. Jamie is a piece of shit and Beth and Rip are right to hate him.
I think that look was more than an I love you. I think it was also weighted by the fact that she sees him having this touching moment with a little boy and knows she can’t give him a son. He lost his family and any chance of them ever having a biological family of their own one day was stolen by Jamie. Simply because she trusted her brother. She seems to hold a lot of guilt bc of it.
@@michaelhyland4774 Jamie brought her to a clinic that served natives and sterilized women after the abortion (this was a real thing). Jamie knew about the sterilization but didn't tell Beth. The abortion is on Beth, but Jamie robbed them of ever being able to have a family for no real reason.
@@aloneinthedark99 but at least they have Carter now. Try as Beth might, Carter is their son. Rip may not actively say it either, but he definitely treats him that way. Especially when Carter gets injured while helping herd some of the cows in early season 5 episode, that reaction of Rip’s was more fatherly than managerial one.
“He called me his son?” Such a great line and moment
I love Jimmy's story and how Rip and Lloyd take him under their wing and shape him into what he becomes
That cabin scene always brings tears to my eyes. My step father always considered me his only son and called me son before he passed away...
You *were* his son and I do not doubt he loved you deeply. I’m sorry for your loss. 💔
Even as a hardened man a fathers love can bring him to tears. Believe he waited all his life for this.
Rip has grown on me. I wasn't sure what to make of him at first and then I just love him more every show. Tough as Hell and has a small amount of soft spots too.
That’s why I love him also, Rip does express his emotions like a man, I loved him even more after the touchy scenes.
You go off now and you’ll be inside a prison for the rest of your life. Pulls him into a man hug.
I’ll teach you how to solve one problem without making another one.
Maternal and heavy masculine energy at the same time.
RIP is what brotherhood, family man, and loyalty looks like. I grew up in the country. Seen and know a few men just like him. They are the one's you do not mess with. And if you're friends with them, you keep them close. They're the real ones. I'm glad men like them are represented through RIP on a dang good show. Not all you see here is fiction. Whoever created RIP either is one or knows men like him.
"Well sir...pain I'm used to..." how many kids like Rip are out there right now experiencing the same stuff.
have known a couple..
I was one of those kids and now when I see those kids I do my best to let them know that they aren't alone
It amazes me that the two toughest characters in this show share a love that's so soft and pure.
That’s how they can be tough
that letter rip got is something that will be treasured for the rest of his days. Something like that is priceless. the words of love and affirmation meant the worlds to him. He always longed to be seen as a son and to have a father who loved him.
Cole Hauser is perfect as Rip. He keeps that show grounded and the character has that integrity that is admirable.
The cast of this show is stacked but nobody gives Cole Hauser enough credit. He is Rip.
I don't thibk so, everyone gives him credit he is a show favourite, i don't know what made you think nobody gave him credit.
@@xcd87 Him and Costner are really the only two keeping me interested in the show.
Yeah I don't see where there was no credit given to him....Everyone who watches the show loves RIP.
Ahhhh, nope.
He's that dude from that one movie
That first bullying scene, damn. When you see his backstory, you know that shyt was primal
I believe he sees his father when he sees bullys. That's a particular part of him you don't want any part of.
@@Sparty681 you’re right in so many ways, especially that part ab his piece of - well his father
The absolute best part of this entire plot is that he didn't care about the house, he cared more about the letter. Cole absolutely killed this role. My only gripe, having grown up around ranch hands and cowboys in Texas is all of their hands are too well kept and manicured lol... Real cowboys always got missing or broken nails, crooked/lost fingers and big beefy hands kinda of like bodybuilders'.
That is probably too much detail for a show. Though it would ground the whole thing better.
Beautiful scene. Love how much Kelly loves him. He's the only man who measures up to her 'real man' yardstick.
I drove to North Dakota, tossing them out the fucking window!

My biological father was abusive and disliked me because he was frustrated at the fact that I had autism. He never treated me respect or care. I felt like I never had a dad.
When i had a strong mentor who cared for me and called me son, I broke down. This gets me everytime.
When Rip got his new house you could tell how happy he was and the to top it off John called him son making this seen just that much better
Every moment Rip is on screen is his best moment
Rip is a goat of Yellowstone.
I love RIP's fierceness: in battle and in love
RIP reminds me a bit of Pope Cody from AK. He was loyal to a HUGE fault. Fierce as a copperhead snake, and emotional like RIP. However, I believe RIP is a lot smarter than Pope.
@Naf5561 me too! I love how loyal Rip is, but my favorite thing about him is that he is fierce and he is absolutely fearless!
This show is filled with amazing, fascinating, well-crafted characters top to bottom, but Rip has always been the standout to me. There's just something about him that never fails to captivate me. He does everything he can to protect the ranch and the Dutton family, even though he's not got any stake in the land or any blood of that family running through his veins. He never asks for anything in return for all his blood and sweat, never complains about what he has to do or what's done to him, nor does he take any of it for granted. He's just appreciative to have the only thing that has ever felt like an approximation of a home to him, because he never got to have that growing up. Where all the other Dutton kids disappointed, or clashed with John or went their own ways, Rip was always there when he was needed, every single time, and his loyalty never had to be questioned or verified. The scene depicting Rip receiving land on the ranch as John's letter is read to him never fails to make me emotional, as the moment even breaks the stoic tough guy himself. For all he's given, Rip is finally rewarded with what he deserves, not just with a tangible mark of his role within the Dutton family that the property signifies, but far more by the understated yet powerful way John fully accepts him as his own son. In many ways, this is also a sign that as time goes on and the battle for the ranch and the land intensifies from all sides, John realizes that everyone there is his family, whether they share the same blood or not, because they are all fighting for the same thing. And there's a beauty in that.
Rip and Floyd make the show for me.
Rip is depicted as a pure, natural, alpha male. He's dangerous as hell but loyal as a hound. He's the only force of nature capable of taming Beth. I was so happy when I discovered it was Cole Hauser from Good Will Hunting and later Pitch Black. He looks wildly different now and it's like he was born to play Rip.
Very well said.

Brilliant casting, he's brilliant.
Rip is a badass. One of my favorite characters on the show.
Rip getting the cabin and brought to tears by it, to me shows the love and gratitude he has for being "adopted" by John Dutton. It just a very moving seen into Rip's "softer" side, other than when he is with Beth or Nate.
John and Rip make a hell of a team, no hesitation, just getting it done. 2 of the best characters in any series
Simply the best
The scene with Beth on the roof, right before she was attacked, is my top favorite scene of Cole's. He is strong, vulnerable, caring, and volatile all at once. When he holds her face after the attack and tells her that he loves her brings me to tears every time.
Rip is the heart of the show and he is every bit as important as any member of the Dutton family. ❤
He's way more important. John wouldn't survive without him.
Rip is hands down my favorite in the series. Man’s Man. 🍻
Man’s tough as granite on the outside, but Beth and the others he’s close to bring out the good, decent man he is on the inside.

When John Dutton gave Rip the house I jumped for joy cause he really deserved it after everything he has done for him

So what did you do when it burned to the ground?
Specially how sad it was, him letting Kayce beat him and him lose his house and role.
Kayce was never beating him, without him letting him, and Kayce is tough.
I recently discovered this show and Rip is like a Zen Warrior. He says so much with a few words. His actions are deliberate and without remorse. He has no pretense or ego. Kudos to the writers and Cole Hauser.
It broke my heart for Rip when the cabin got burnt down after all he's been through to earn that from John and all that matter to Rip was John calling him his son when he was gifted the cabin !! Hopefully J.D. rebuilds it for him someday !!

I don't know what to do or say to a statement like that. I think it has to do with being true to oneself so you can be true to everyone else. Hello, how are you doing today?
The one part about Dutton calling him a son. Best part of the whole season
Probably my favorite moment of the whole series. Rip's my favorite and I thought that moment was so beautifully presented, acted and led up to. It paid off a lifetime of Rip's sacrifices and loyalty to the Dutton family that he did without complaint or question, and it was beautiful to see him finally get rewarded for what he'd done because he's the kind of man that would never want to ask for it or expect anything in return. And that's what makes him who he is. The most touching thing is that, no matter how happy he is to have a literal home on the ranch, what means the most to him is that John views him as one of his own sons, and it's that wonderful sentiment that leaves him breathless and emotional above all else. Just perfect.

He certainly was larger than life on that scene. And I appreciated the realism when he got shot. You knew he felt it! But unlike most Hollywood, they didn't make him act like nothing was wrong, nor did he keel over like a poorly placed shot is lethal. He was a proper warrior in that scene.

He seems so dam mean, but at the same time never really let's himself get in his own way to teaching lessons that he truly feels are for other people's good. Will give his life those he is dedicated to without hesitation. Really amazing!!
The scene where young John Dutton and a very young rip wheeler is an amazing scene which shows your his character details at such a young age... John knew right then and there that ripp was a keeper for the ranch and the family
Rip's reaction to finding out JD gave him a cabin is pure gratitude...probably won't see any of that from this younger generation.
Depends on how hard the person had it. Rip had a rough life with a horrible father, but was taken in by someone who respected him and thought of him as his own son, with all the perks of being considered a son (such as the cabin being given to him) while giving him a proper father figure to look up to for once in his life.
Not the same situation as some spoiled kid being given a free house by daddy for no reason
I believe that deep down every man wants to be rip wheeler tough yet compassionate. A true man
The sound mixing on the roof scene is amazing. Letting the song play while Rip makes his way to Beth, then slowly dropping the track to only the bass while they greet each other, then drop the track completely to allow Rip to open up to Beth and let her know how he dealt with his family trauma, only to resume the music slowly while the unspoken "I love you" lingers in the air. It really adds to the scene and the dialog.
One of the greatest characters ever on TV!
I love the moments Taylor Sheridan gives us. He tends to dwell to long on the stark realism of life like a Larry McMurtry novel, but it does have its place if you want to watch something visceral.
Cole is one of the greatest actors I have ever seen. He is so very gifted.
Rip never dreamed of having the house. He wanted to be loyal not for a reward at the end but for loyalties sake. Him getting the letter meant that he had a father. And not just a father but a man he respects
Rip is Fantastic on this show a great Actor. Looking in from Ireland 🇮🇪
How is Rip whipping a chair through the glass not in here. Easily his best, most heroic moment.
Also, when he tells Beth he loves her. That scene should have been in this.
Agree. Saw that scene for the first time just a week ago, and you just knew when he was bearing on her in the truck that he would save her.
@@claudiasmoak4006 That sequence was the peak of this series for me. Seasons 3 and 4 have been on a decline.
Unfortunately it was probably too violent for CZcams’s algorithm. He walks through being shot twice to take care of Beth. His pic should be beside the word “badass” in the dictionary!
The folks below are are absolutely correct Rip does make the show. He may seem like a simple man but he is as complex as any of the rest. He show us what respect, honor, patience and beyond all that loyalty looks like.
Some people are ready to do violence, but it takes character to do it for the "right" reasons. He makes no calls, he is loyal, rare trait these days. Worth millions if you ask me.
The longer the seasons go, the more emotional we all get. The more emotionally attached we all get. We will all cry in the end.
Not gonna lie, I cried like a little girl when Beth read that letter the second time...
Hello,how are you doing today?
