- Promoting her memoir Simple Dreams, Linda Ronstadt had a live, in-person discussion about her personal and musical journey with Los Angeles Times journalist Patt Morrison at the Ann and Jerry Moss Theater, Santa Monica, CA.
In a casual interview format, the most successful female rock singer of the 1970s talks about helping kick-start the Eagles' musical career when Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner were members of her touring band (6:12), making songwriters (like Warren Zevon) famous and choosing their songs (with help of Jackson Browne) (9:15), the influence of technology in music (12:20), live performances, music evolution, musical diversity (19:21), her relationship with California Governor Jerry Brown, politics and music education (23:03) among other interesting topics. Linda declares "I love CZcams."
A Q&A session with selected audience members concludes Linda Ronstadt event (42:09), sponsored by Writers Blog on September 24, 2013. Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks were in attendance. Watch more of Linda Ronstadt on Cal Vid Playlist including recent Los Angeles Tribute to the Music of Linda Ronstadt in December 2016.
Linda was forced to retire from singing due to her affliction from Parkinson's Disease. However, she is still active. Just last month, she narrated (but did not appear in) a terrific filmed tribute to honoree Eagles (attended by Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit) for the 39th Annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington D.C. - Hudba
Linda deserves much more recognition in the music industry. She not only paved the way for women, she took on country, rock & roll, & pop, music in a way no other artist has. And let’s not forget about that voice! Linda is a treasure.
So glad the gentleman asked the question about "Long Long Time." Linda recently was "trending" as the song was featured in the third episode of a popular show, "The Last of Us," based on a video game. A whole new generation has been introduced to her. Wonderful.
This woman is out of this world with her intellect and perception of the world. She has amazing words on life and her life...
NEVER will there ever be a talent such as her. To me, she was the voice of my youth. I saw her in the late 60s in L.A. and fell in love with her... along with 30 million other guys!! She certainly didn’t deserve Parkinson's, but life is what it is. You have to play the cards you’ve been dealt. Love
you, Linda
I wish it was just Parkinson's instead of the Progressive Supranuclear Palsy that they have come to diagnose. Even worse than PD.
When Linda talks, I listen.
So do I
Who can help but love Linda Ronstadt? What a fabulous wonderful talent...so gifted in every way!
My Christmas presents to me was a stack of Linda albums.
@@deadandburied7626 I buy Christmas presents for myself too. That way I always get what I want. That was a great present for yourself!
A vastly intelligent woman on top of being an extraordinarily gifted singer ..... and so laid back at the same time WYSIWYG. What you see is what you get. You could listen to her telling stories for as long as you could listen to her unmatchable singing.
what a beautiful person......
A natural beauty!
Linda was an absolute Great Singer!!! I miss her.
What a great lady.
Still our Linda. Her sense of humor hasn't changed at all. The voice of a generation whose songs always evoke a particular time or memory.A natural talent who didn't any extras, embellishments, or gimmicks. Or autotune. Thank you Linda for the ride of a lifetime!
Good questions to and answers from Linda. 😊
I still see those sparkling brown eyes, Linda is a national treasure.
Patrick Reagan
Awww, this is a sweet comment about her eyes.
Linda Ronstadt is the best: NUFF SAID
She's right about how audio quality has really gone down -- our "improved" technology has turned back on itself. Too bad that a lot of folks may grow up not knowing the difference. She's also right about theaters. It breaks my heart to think that we may never be able to gather together again to celebrate life and music. Long, bleak, silent future awaiting us . . .
As a gal who grew up in the sixties and seventies, Linda was my idol in so many ways. I started singing at 5, had lessons through grade school, high school and into my adult years, always singing as a soloist except in school choruses. It absolutely breaks my heart, and brings me to tears that Linda can't sing anymore. There was none better or more diverse and I owe her so much. She made me a better singer. Yes, we copy other artists and it's a very high form of flattery. May God bless her and I'm grateful to God that he gifted her with that amazing voice, and us with her. Much love, Miss Ronstadt, and thank you.
A GOOD WOMAN... never heard a bad thing about her... God Blessed her with a talent we all enjoyed in my generation and younger people. THANK you much Linda... hope your disease is not progressing ... I will Keep you in my prayers to Saint RITA... the saint of impossible situations... Pray to her Linda, She was so close to our Lord.
"People sing for many of the same reasons the birds sing. They sing for mate, to claim territory, or simply to give voice to the delight of being alive in the midst of a beautiful day." ~ Linda Ronstadt
Thank you for being our bird...
Mother Nature On The Run Great quote indeed from our most glorious songbird.
A breathtakingly gracious & beautiful lady. She is an inspiration.
2:23 - 2:33 Linda literally changed my life with this perspective 🙏🏽 thank you
I knew Linda Rondstadt as a great singer growing up. I have to say say I was pleasantly surprised. She’s a highly intelligent woman a person who rolls with the flow. I’m so inspired by her honesty and memory that I was blown away. I’m also a bit surprised that she has some opinions that shocked me as well. But all in all she is a very interesting beautiful inside and out. Just wanted to mention the impact she had on me as a young person
Amazing Lady! National Treasure ♥️♥️♥️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The best!
Well said!!
I grew up listening to Linda. Had no idea how brilliant she is. I'm newly obsessed!
Me too! I'm obsessed with her.
What a great attitude and still absolutly radiant and very beautiful
Indeed, her natural beauty is still radiant, and her attitude in life is amazing. What a treasure she continues to be.
Linda is on top of the world in the first 1 minute of this video. My hat is totally off to her and her ways and her voice and her life. Thanks for being an inspiration to all intelligent life on earth!!!!!.
Great voice, honesty, sophisticated, intelligent, generous, and selfless..... Beautiful Linda Ronstadt.
Love you linda 💖 Ronstadt's
Les songs de Linda..c'est toute ma jeunesse ,une femme exceptionnelle!
We have always love to hear Linda Ronstandt sing with her band on stage. It's hard for me to hear at times cause I'm deaf in one ear and wear an aide in the other, but gosh she sings so greashe captures the audience and they are amazed by her voice and her style when she entertains all of us! We love her so much! Wishing her well! God Bless you Linda!
Smart, witty, sharp mind. That and talent, is why she got where she did.
what really matters is music and family is a gift
ALL THAT KNOW ME KNOW THAT I AM A HUGE LINDA RONSTADT FOLLOWER. THIS IS A GREAT INTERVIEW FOR LINDA FANS AND EAGLES. REAL INTERESTING AND FUNNY STUFF HERE.
I love her too
Linda, you are my hero. Thank you so much for being such a great person. You are loved and admire more than you will ever know. The greatest ever.❤
Her opening statement---so, so right on. With art in your life (particularly music), every day is a discovery. Parents: give your kids music all day, every day, and they will surely grow to appreciate their short, fortunate time on this planet.
I'll say this: I've never seen a singer soooo devoted to his/her art like Linda.
She did it for the Love of the ART, not for the recognition nor the money.
This does not happen often. This is just so respectable of her.
Linda was a true genius, I've never heard her speak or talk in an interview, she is so articulate and very intelligent, I'm very interested, impressed and surprised by her, what a beautiful and intelligent woman...
great performer great singer great woman great human. Love here always..........
Tony the netherlands
I LOVE HER ❣❣💖💖💖💖💖💖
Somewhere Out There with James Ingram is an absolutely beautiful blend of voices. Love it. I love everything she has done...her voice is so clear and pure. Where are the people of her caliber today???? 😢 she is so thoughtful...just love her
I just keep listening to this
Linda Rondstadt is just the greatest performer as well as a really warm and gracious person. I listened to her music all the time and loved her music and how she performed all kinds of songs and wrote beautiful lyrics. Her voice is just the best, full of emotion and longing and passion.
Love her songs! Love her voice! ..and Love her awesome personality.. I kinda feel something in common.. I love to sing, I am 2nd generation Latina.
I would play her album (Canciones De Mi Padre) all the time at home .. My mom n dad loved it too! God bless you Linda Rodstant. I am your biggest fan forever. I am retired (63 yrs old). I play your videos on my smart phone, connect to my smart speakers!
Linda is truly a beloved artist (and I don't use that term loosely here), and especially in Los Angeles where she began her roots. She's such a national treasure that even famous people like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson are in the audience to listen to her speak.
I had a conversation this weekend with an older friend who was originally from Arizona. She did some small group performances in her college days. I asked if she was acquainted with the Ronstadt family. She sang with Linda’s older sister. Visited the home on their Sunday singing sessions. She said Linda was around fourteen at the time, and had a wonderful voice.
Her opening statement is so important to me that I hit the link to post it on Facebook
you are so loved and admired thank you for yourvoice
Am listening again today
My favorite singer of all time!!!
Mary Anne
Mine too
Incredible, she sang all these beautiful songs amazingly and she still feels she could've done it better...... She's simply amazingly lovely and generous.
What a smart lovely lady! And her music is so outstanding. 💝
Yes indeed!
I just adore her
Great interview! She is a very thoughtful person and her comments nicely balance frankness and diplomacy.
This was a marvelous interview of Linda that highlights her humble nature. At the same time she made a few comments reflecting her concerns politically as well as a couple of the serious sociological problems in this country. For example what she had to say about the value of learning multiple languages was so true which America has been an utter failure for much of its history in promoting multiligual abilities in people. Just look at how American authorities treated American Indians and forcing their kids to go to boarding schools for decades. I could go on, but will not.
such a student of her voice and music in general.. love you such a long long time.....
That's what you call class. And she was a great singer. Blows away all of the so-called superstars today.
I agree. Every interview she has given, even dating back to her 20s, exhibits her authenticity and class.
Not only that. She was so supportive of her musical colleagues.
She invited Emmylou Harris over to her house, sang with her and spoke to everyone in the industry about her. She let Emmylou open her concerts to let her be noticed.
She helped the Eagles the same way.
The lady is amazing
@@marias7599 So classy
Thanks Captain Obvious
Oh how I love Linda Ronstadt. I enjoyed reading all of the wonderful comments left about her and I agree with them all!
She took us on an eclectic musical ride with strength and warmth. A joyous original and often sad creature. Gracias for sharing your voice, Linda.
Linda is so humble and talented.
The greatest girl singer ever - imho. Powerful, tender, creative and honest. A warmth and generosity almost unknown in a dirty rotten business. The original Cowgirl in the Sand.
The very best singer I ever heard singing the Stars Spangled Banner,
Erin, thank you for your comment. Read a fairly recent print interview with Ms. Ronstadt. She described her "free range" childhood when, at the age of 5, she could ride her pony and roam the desert for hours on end. The author of the piece compared this early childhood practice to her restlessness as a singer. Ms. Ronstadt roamed the landscape of her early musical experiences all the days of her personal life. Apropos that she would dedicate her time now to enriching the musical life of children.
I'm not going to disagree with you because Linda Ronstadt is absolutely fantastic, but I prefer Karen Carpenter as best singer I've ever heard and Ann Wilson from Heart as the best female rock singer i've ever heard. But the one thing that Linda has over any other female singer is just how instrumental and influential she was in discovering and working with some of the great bands, artists and singer/songwriters throughout the 70's/80's in the music business in LA.
We love you, Linda.
Gorgeous authentic voice. Fine freethinking soul.
Beautiful……
Thank you! Cheers!
She's just great
linda ♥ a beautiful woman in every way♥♥♥
Her musical knowledge is awesome...loved the Stone Poneys and her hitch with the Eagles.....great story teller.....would love to hang out with her.....
ilove you linda Ronstadt forever 😘😘😘😘😘
SO smart, so intelligent
She's exactly right, albums did sound WAY better than mp3s.
I listen to Linda sing a song and it's in my head for days. Love Has No Pride lasted a Long Long Time. : )
Timeless woman...timeless voice - and a great job by Patt, as always!
Your looking great Linda
Thank you! You too!
Always been a fan of Linda from her days in Topanga Canyon.
Incredible selfless woman.
Beautiful singer but oh my, she is so smart and articulate. Wouldn’t you love to have a chat with Linda today?
Absolutely!!
When I first discovered (personally), the musical talent of Linda Rhondstadt I thought she was just a BEAUTIFUL, CHARISMATIC person with a SUPER AWESOME voice... But- I had NO IDEA that she was as ASTUTE as she was and such a 'Student' (and, NOW 'Instructor', THANKFULLY) of the whole music entertainment business... I mean, BEAUTIFUL, SWEET, AND SMART-!!! What's (NOT) to just LOVE about her-??????? 🤔😀😁👍✌️
Well said!
Great interview with one of the greatest female singers ever. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Linda...
You are so welcome
@@CalVid always...
A wonderful woman. :)
Would love see a friends & family reunion of Linda R. That would be great.
There is a lot of famous people there♥️♥️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
She was a great singer, way hot too. Good person obviously and tough.
Lola Beltran and Linda have been the greatest ranchera music singers of all time ❤🇲🇽💕🙏
True words
Even with her struggles with Parkinsons, she is still extremely intelligent and knows what she wants to do all the time. Refused to conform to a standard. She just did what she wanted to and she is living her life her way. As Frank always sang, I (she) did it my (her) way.
I have MG, a neuromuscular decease, I keep.m6 mind active now, when the body goes, we think more, understand more.
@@kayt9576 I am really sorry to hear that. I am so grateful that my body still functions normally for a 54 year old male. Its a blessing that most people accept without giving it much thought. Big hugs from South Africa.
A real talent
Lovely Linda, with the magnificent voice that soars over everything. I am on the same journey as Linda with Parkinsons.
Robin Brown
How are you doing Robin?
Bless you. Wish you strength and happiness on your journey.
I wish you all the best, and pray there will soon be a cure for this dreaded disease.
We know now that she has progressive supranuclear palsy. So sad, but her mind remains.
people do not have an idea that songs our stories.Bonnie Raitt sang about Linda in Nick of Time. Emmy Lou sang with Linda about Her heritage. Dolly,Linda,Emmylou sang together to come together as one.
Linda you are a beautiful girl! I used to sing also, and I lost my voice too. Something tells me that if you really want to sing again, I believe you could( in my case I'm older and really don't want to go back
A mighty voice for women empowerment.
Love her!!! ❤️
Great interview. thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
She's the greatest. People like "Adele" just have high-volume behind their singing-- and people mistake this for "power". But total lack of all the nuance, control and vocal dimension Linda had and made look so simple. It's not about a big windbag blowing out volume. Linda was (is) such an amazing artist- who just charmed us all the more by her total lack of pretension or need for adulation. Amazingly "normal" to use an ambiguous word.
quicksite Well, we cannot deny that Adele is a very good performer, honestly, in the midst of craziness, I appreciate her good, meaningful music. BUT you're so right about Linda, she's an amazingly talented lady who really understand music, you mention her a genre and she will transform into that instantly. She's like a musical memorabilia with a gorgeous powerful voice.
One of the reasons why I like Canciones de mi padre is because the songs are mostly without amplifier, mostly acoustic and she proves how powerful her voice is.
Mate you picked the only artist who actually could compare to Linda. Adele is there only for the music. She has a natural instrument in her voice but consistently refines her craft, and gives us real emotion with her songs. Linda herself said she thinks "Adele is an amazing singer and a real breath of fresh air." I get what you mean though
Sing, with your developed talent, the microphone will pick it up. No need to scream n shout, unless that's all They can do.
Great interview with such interesting information. Was so surprised to see Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson in the audience in several shots.
Make a joyful noise
another Treasure from GOD's greatest generation: BOOMERS! Linda: the definition of integrity: bold and then velvet voice, drop dead gorgeous, Highly intelligent and perceptive. Her 1 unique trait: her SONG SELECTION. All of her songs are about 1 thing consistently; LOVE! After the concert you were ready to marry your date because you would be SO IN LOVE! INCREDIBLE, TREMENDOUS.
I love you mucho.
Isn't enough she has the killer voice, She's an intelligent, open minded, very politically smart woman. The "why" question of why Parkinson's happened to her, I guess is fruitless. Hang in there, Linda.
I'm in the audience
hi!. found you here. It's me Char Mane hahaha
😂😂 I love how she's trying to go according to the stereotypes of age: I'm old now so I gotta go to the opera lol. She has a cute personality
Amazing woman!
