  • The whole family was spotted together late last night and we still do not know the status of the smaller cubbie. He was last seen by a Katmai ranger at night and today, we have only seen Grazer fishing with one cub. NOTE: It does not mean that the other cubbie is not alive. We do not know its status as of right now, all we know is that it did not look good yesterday afternoon. If you want to talk about how you feel and let out your emotions, this is a safe space to do so since it is not allowed in the chat. Please be respectful of others. Yes, these are bears and they behave as bears, but we are humans and we only know how to behave and react as humans invested in these creatures. Be good to yourself and if you need to take a break from the bear cams for a few days, do that for your mental health and watch cooking shows or woodworking or something else to cleanse your mind. #alaska #bears #wildlife #brownbears #katmai #fatbearweek #salmon #explore #mentalhealthbreak #Grazer

    Hey, all, the latest is that the cubbie is alive and resting under the treehouse as of 1:20pm Pacific time 7/28/24. It has been observed moving. Bigger cubbie and mama Grazer have been checking on little injured cubbie every so often.

      @@ManyaP64 Thanks for the updates. I'm trying to remain positive but realistic. That was a pretty violent attack waged from one of the largest boars to what is likely the tiniest at Brooks Falls. My fear is possible internal injuries. If cubbie can't climb and isn't able to be treed, that's not a good sign. Hope the little one pulls through.

      It was so encouraging & heartwarming to watch that little-baby-that-could, with new found strength determinedly walk over to drink water and once again strongly call out for mom. Clearly severely injured he is already exhibiting his Grazer-strong bloodline and hopefully will continue healing,growing bigger and stronger while adapting to whatever lingering injury related challenges he faces. Last night his uninjured brother persistently kept following mom into the precariously overcrowded feeding frenzied Falls area. G sure has her paws full!

    Ouch. This is a punch in the gut for me. Grazer is one of my favorites for the obvious reasons. The risk she takes of bringing coys to the falls has always been rewarded until now. I've tried to avoid getting emotionally attached to these amazing animals, but find it impossible not to. Tough lesson to learn for me, but much more for her. I'm thankful that her bravery has allowed all of us an opportunity for many great close ups of her cubs through the cameras. Have not lost total hope for the injured cub, but am thinking the chances of it's survival are very slim. Wishing you the best of luck little cub, wherever you are.

    I have watched and learned for several years for losses of coy on videos at Katmai. I was sad to witness the tragedies but also understand we are only the observers. I have learned only 1/3 of cubs will survive to adulthood in the wildness. Tremendously respect to all the wild animal mothers!!

    Praying for the little coy. Grazer is a wonderful mom. She has been a very successful mom with her offspring making it to adulthood and thriving. Praying both her cubbies survive and thrive. Grazer's bravery fighting the top males is amazing. She did all she could do. I admit I am a bit upset at Chunk. But, these boars are only interested in their own survival. Nature is harsh. I admit I am taking a break. It was stressing me out! lol

    • @LaVidaDeDSR
      @LaVidaDeDSR Před měsícem +1

      The harsh reality is unfortunately just what you stated because violent shaking and thrashing injuries from the force we witnessed are frequently severely critical but manifest with visual clues for many hours, days or even weeks later. Shock and trauma alone can have critical consequences. While I join all hoping for the best for this obviously suffering little watching its struggle grow breaks my heart. Compounding everything is knowing the signs all too well and knowing that what goes against park protocol is likely the only way to heal this baby. I so appreciate ManyaP for the many wonderful videos but also for the heartfelt welcoming to openly express our heartbreak and own emotional pain here free of the piled on judgment in other group sites.

If we look at the attack video, towards end of video, you can see the cub swimming downstream out of view with thankfully head above water. In this video mom and baby are stressed and it doesn't look like she is fishing but trying to find her baby? I also noticed a white dot on that baby bear. Could that be a Chunk toothmark, or maybe the baby bear attacked died later from its injuries. Sorry just grabbing for straws. 😢

      It got to shore with mom - the only answer I have is that adrenaline probably played a part. He was able to swim to shore after his injury but it probably didn't click until he got to a safe spot that he began to feel intense pain. There are visitor videos of him writhing and groaning an hour later and it was clear he was not fine.
