I've seen some of your vids, (good stuff). Wasn't absolutely sure until now where this is. Good for you, buddy!. Fished that stretch a solid fifty years. Maybe I'll see you out there this summer.
Love my VR75! Great Video, Thank You.
Great session out there Edward! I love to see you doing that halibut surf fishing. Great breakdown and tips for finding halibut. I can definitely apply most of that to the east coast as well! Maybe for the halibuts little brother, the fluke. Awesome vid!! 🤙🎣
A taste test between fluke and halibut would be fun! Haha do a blind test to see if you can tell the difference. We could collab and send each other a frozen piece. Haha probably expensive 🤣
@@Hook2Cook That is such a good idea Edward!! How cool would that be. I wonder how much that would cost to ship. Definitely worth checking out lol!
Amazing day always wanted to experience surf fishing , great info thanks for a great vid
Beautiful halabit fish 👍🏼💪🏼💛 it's my favorite fish to catch when I pier fishing 🎣 👍🏼 halibut fish are beautiful 💖
Always great info. Love it.
Thanks for the tips, awesome day of fishing, going to have to write those down 👊👍🎣
Thanks!
Fun to watch, very useful techniques, and great product/tackle/gear recommendations. I’ve seen you out fishing before I stumbled across your channel. I’ll be sure to thank you in person next time.
That’s really cool! Thanks for sharing! Lookin forward to it
where is this
Video is getting stoked to be back and throw a line... took a min before I realized you're fishing exactly where I've been planning to go. Just hope the conditions are good because the weather hasn't been.
Stellar effort on this video Edward! Keep grinding it out and then Whammy! (Champ Kind) you bring in a nice little Calihali! That Seabass was something I can only dream of, Redtail will have to suffice.
Yea, it’s hard to quit when your friends are hooking up! Haha I was definitely zigging while the fish zagged
Good job Amy! Great video guys!
Another great vid Edward. Looking for these conditions all the time now. Thanks!
Thank you Mike! Saw the calicovers in person at hook line and sinker! Keep up the great work!
@@Hook2Cook Did they say “Hey your the guy on the box” 😂
Amazing sesh and i'm only 11 min into the video as i type this! Keep em coming!
Thanks bro
Dang you guys killed it! Surprise seabass action!
just noticed you sorted your videos by month in the description, that's very helpful
Thanks! I look at that to plan my month
Yo Ed good stuff yo!! By the way i finally caught my first halibut with you your weedless rig off the pier. Wasn't a keeper but still i was stoked.. thanks for your videos hope to run in to y'all at cachuma for Labor day2022!!
Oh and if you can i can really tell the difference between a halibut and a flownder
Congrats! Not sure where I’ll be fire labor day
I'm glad that Ernie caught a really nice sea bass snagging it in the face that's a good catch
A Channel about a man who fishes and eats what he catches? SUBBED!
Damn that’s a good way to put it! A channel about a man who eats what he catches. Welcome
One thing that I noticed right off was ... You let your adrenaline get the best of you and so you weren't giving your bait enough time to hit the bottom. It also means that your retrieval was too fast.
Nice! Hooked one last year, lost him in the surf. Similar lure. What kind of line you using? Have enjoyed your channel for the last several years. Picking up your game!
Man your channel is 👌, love your videos, and cooks. Whats a good pole set up for surf fishing for halibut?
This style, anything around 10ft with the lure rating of 1/2oz-2oz. Okuma Hawaiian is one, okuma rockaway or the one in this video- the more than fishing Alon rod
I appreciate you taking your time to let me know, thanks a bunch maybe I'll see you out there man, your influencing me to pick up the surf fishing, your channel is legit, thanks man, keep it up
Is that the Alon rod you’re using? What reel did you pair that with? Thx for all the info!
Would you recommend Medium or Hard action rod for surf fishing? thanks
Awesome videos man! been watching your channel
For halibut medium heavy
Nice vid Edward
thank you!
Edward nice video I'd notice that you were retrieve faster than that lady sooo slov little bit and good luck stay safe 👍
Just trying to reel fast enough to feel the lure working
Nice upload, enjoying your videos.
Thanks! Just fixed it! Good looking out!
@@Hook2Cook have you tried a high low rig from the surf? We've had some decent success with it in the past. I've used a grub and a fluke and landed some doormats. A high low with 2 bucktail jigs with cow strips did pretty good too. I'm sure a couple paddle tails in tandem would work as well. I'll use varying sizes together like a 1/2oz jig & 4" soft plastic with a 3/4oz jig and 6" soft plastic. I think having multiples increases the natural aesthetic to entice a bite. Could just be superstition who knows 🤷♂️
I’m wondering who’s got the biggest fishing channel in so cal, and so far man yours has held the strongest in my opinion would love for someone to point me in the direction of some LB fishing tips spots guides
Exactly but I honestly just think LB isn’t too good due to not so much structure
@@kevinacevedo1237 I’m going to be moving to that area so I’m hoping to find or pick up on strategies in that area weather it’s jetty’s or from the surf or if it’s better to go more south any info would help!
That’s a great compliment Donny! Much appreciated🙏 should be plenty of good places to target halibut in your area but I am not too familiar with exact locations
I watched this video and it made me wanna go outside of my comfort zone and hit the jetty early more
@@donnyletgo1577 I hit the jetty today and man they were biting non stop gotta link up with you when you come through!
WSB baybay!!!
very good video my friend excuse the question in which part of California do you fish my friend if you can know????
Santa Barbara county
@@Hook2Cook thank you my friend and learn a lot from you from a good teacher greetings and blessings in each fishing and I will be watching each of your videos to learn more from you thanks my friend
Just curious about your setup. Line rest and type? Also where in SoCal ids this beach? Thank you and great video.
Thanks. We don’t name locations on this channel but it’s 30# braid to 30# copolymer leader on a 10 foot rod rated up to 2 oz with 4000 size reel.
@@Hook2Cook I understand. I've fished SB El Cap and killed the butts there using frozen anchovies tails on a helicopter rig with a pyramid sinker. Slowly dragging it across the bottom. Let it sit a couple minutes then pull a couple times tighten the line and repeat. The Halibut hit it constantly. I've had others ask me what I'm using for bait and I tell them but I've never gave them the technique.
Which 3/4 oz jig head are you using? Does it have a 4/0 hook? I have caught exactly ONE halibut in my life, and it was just a baby butt - about 12 inches...
Yes it was a 4/0 hook. 5” bait
What a fun video first time I’ve seen the hook up in the surf any love on it?
No love on it but seabass love them from the boat, why not in the shallows?
Where were you fish at
How far south do you have to go to start seeing halibut in the surf? Been learning a lot from your vids. Still trying to catch my first OB striped bass.
Santa Cruz has some opportunities… aptos too
@@Hook2Cook Thanks! I'll scout it out! Been out to OB twice this week on the flood tide, no luck so far. This weekend morning looks like my best shot in awhile!
@@Hook2Cook Thanks to your videos I hooked up on my first OB stripers. Three back to back with 33" the biggest caught using shore jigging method. Thanks! Now on to halis!
Great video! What beach did y'all fish at?
did you find out ?
Is this over a reef or open sand?
What size Van Staal reel you fishing? Thinking about getting one...
Vr75
Hello! Where is this place?
Hey bud, ive noticed you get some fish and put people on'em. ive gone surf fishing over 20 times sense ive caught my 1st perch, after being inspired by your videos and i have been skunked everytime sense, would you ever be open to taking out a complete stranger on a fishing trip?
Normally not COMPLETE strangers. Haha at least some conversations here and there. It’s a big time commitment fishing with someone for hours. The people in this video have been friends for years. Gotta make sure you’d enjoy each other’s company no matter what you’re doing.
@@Hook2Cook lol yeah,i definitely understand where your coming from. Im open to make the effort of conversing and trying to get to no each other, so i could learn first hand from somebody who knows what theyre talking about. I figured it was a pretty weird question, but said "what the hell why not ask, worst thing to happen is he says no" lol.
where in California?
Rod, reel, and line?
G-town? So sick man been giving it a go right by the river mouth but have yet to hook up on my first butt.
Hah that’s cool! Never heard it called Gtown! How’s the time as the water temp is right!
@@Hook2Cook just trying to keep it low key 😅 heck yea now is the time
You at Goleta beach?
What beach is this
Hey guys! I'm a disabled angler in the south bay. Do you ever fish the peirs? I'd love to meet up and fish with yell so I can learn from you. Thoughts?
Ive caught some real nice halibut on the shelter island pier -I live in Arizona now and its hard to get away .
I really do well North of cayucos
Where can I get one of those gloves? Tired of my fingers getting cutbup.
Right here bro amzn.to/3LwTInT
Where is that places bro?
What size keitech swimbait were you using?
4.8”
This is a really good spot for halibut and white sea bass and the great Park about the spot is parking is free all day all night
I really wana get into surf fishing could you tell me what spot this is? None of my friends fish so I'm just trying to learn new stuff through CZcams
@@dgafciabamf fish at the beaches behind the Santa Barbara harbor, Goleta, and gaviota. Anywhere along the 101 and highway 1 are solid spots. I suggest learning how to read the surf even a little bit so your aren’t casting right on top of a sand bar
Where do you get those 3 finger gloves you're using?
They’re these ones amzn.to/3XXKVS9
Wasn’t that a barred sand bass? Min. Size for that is 14” no? I thought it was only the white sea bass that has to be “28 to keep. Dang man, y’all let it go, noooooooooo 😂 awesome video though 👍
100% juvenile white seabass
@@Hook2Cook they look so similar to me, how do you tell the difference?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What rod is Amy using?
Looks like Goleta Beach
What rod and reel were you using ? THANK YOU
The rod is the more than fishing allon rod
Reel looks like a van stall
Hit this location 3 days after you posted in hopes for some hook2cook, same lure, 5 hours around peak low tide from 6 am to 11am and got skunked, don't know how you guys do it.
The actual day was July 1st. Conditions change fast. Each day, the tide moves up 1 hour. A better tide will be coming up July 17
What line test are you using
30# braid 25# mono 5 foot topshot
what kind of reel are you using?
van staal vr75
What’s in between your lead head and leader
It’s a tactical angler clip. Use it to switch out baits without cutting your leader and re tying
ide like to have seen the ladys retrive
That beach has always been known for it's halibut.
What beach
What beach?
where is this im trying to head out tomorrow with my lady
Condition No. 6: No salad or debris in the water. If you're constantly casting and retrieving, any seaweed or debris that you hook will ruin that cast.
Yes! I did think of that and visibility since they’re so closely related! Thanks for adding number 6!
Are you using the Mustad bag inside another bag?
LOL yes. The mustad bag Is waterproof and carries the GoPro batteries. The main backpack, not so waterproof
@@Hook2Cook I LOVE that bag and use that for travel fishing!
What kind of glove is that 🤔
It’s one similar to the ones on our website hook2cook.shop/products/three-finger-casting-gloves
What pier is that?
What's the line pick up ratio on your reel? Looks like you're reeling in fast. You keep saying slow steady retrieve, but you're cranking pretty fast!
I didn't know that fish open their eyes in the morning!🤔 I have yet to see a fish with eye lids!😂
37” per crank 6:3:1 gear ratio. 10 foot rod. Just trying to reel fast enough to get the bait vibrating
You said Amy has cool adventures... Does she have CZcams channel??
22in is legal, an thats my all time thing to go do in the moring ...just like you...surf fishing is fun an kick his ass sea bass,..hehehhahhahaha
also that beach is very flat like Pismo Beach and thats a hallie beach
B******* three separate videos all in one thank you
So where was that?
Sorry. This channel doesn’t name specific beaches.
@@Hook2Cook No problem. I figured it out. :) Awesome video!
Motivation.. 130 lb Halibut in Alaska, go try it bud.
Found a deadly secret with halibut . Use a football jig with strong hook and use a matching size tube bait. Run the tube up the hook but don't cover the football , leave the football exposed. Why the football over a hookup bait? A football jig rigged this way will rock side to side and this will make the tubes tails shake. Key here is "Vibration" and Calif halibut have a long sensitive lateral line which they heavily use to pick up vibrations. The Tube also holds scent very well and will leak out the back leaving a scent trail. The Vibration and Scent combo is deadly
Ideally paint your football jig white and just dot some eyes on with a sharpie. Tube wise raid your bass box or hit up tackle warehouse for cheap tubes on sale. White is the best but other colors work. Cast and just hop the tube combo like you were fishing bass across a open flats area. You will be shocked what happens
Thanks Jim this is so helpful , good man , sounds like you've done this once or so...🤝
Yes Jim! Thanks for this! Actually found some really nice tube jigs at the tackle store and looked at them for like ten minutes with the wheels turning! The scent trail sounds awesome also!
You talking about a free swinging football jig?
@@Travis3500 Just using a Standard football jig with a heavy wire hook. 3/8ths ounce 3/0 with 3.5 inch tube. Just make sure your football is not a light wire hook as the bigger halibut or other big species will bend or break lighter largemouth bass football jigs
@@JR-bw3tr Salt anglers were using a similar concept in the 1970's targeting bluefish and striped bass. I just added a rounder football head concept so the tube will rotate 30 degrees on the fall and retrieve. Scent wise the products available these days are serious gamechangers however.
Dont like sticky
