"the drama never came from a lack of respect or love". I think that's a huge part of what makes this movie special! It's very rare to see people in movies being so grown up about their relationships (poly or otherwise).
I just saw this film and thought it was wonderful. This was a very good and intelligent review. And I too would love to see more positive portrayals of polyamory in film and television. It truly boggles my mind that many people find it hard to comprehend the idea of loving more than one person romantically, even though we all love multiple people Platonically.
The first time i watched this film i could not stop grinning, i don't know why. Maybe because i love seeing people fall in love with eachother. Hope there are more films like this. People need to understand this film was about love and how they see eachother equally that just happens to include the inspiration that made Wonder Woman.
I just saw this movie 17 min ago. First thing I felt was this need to see it again. I was very surprised at my self and the ability and ease I was able to relate to both women. Elizabeth is who I feel I have become, her smarts, her power, her demand for respect, her fight to keep control at all times and parts of me I felt longed for Olive. I loved the conversation in the Hospital. Thought I was going to be very biased and was pleasantly surprised I was not. It got me thinking, it got me feeling. my husband and i are polyamorous and very happy. The only thing we wish is that our relationships are respected as much as monogamous relationships are. Love is beautiful no matter the form and I think this movie showed it in the truest form.

I just saw this tonight, and was in awe. It was fantastic. And listening to how you wanted to learn more and felt a connection to it that you hadn't thought about before, was the same nervous curious feeling I hadn't really considered before seeing this and leaving the theater. It was so well done, and the acting was so nuanced and in depth. I could see it a dozen times and not catch every look. The added psych/sociological aspects were brilliant. Really wished this had more hype and notice. Thanks for your review!
I actually quite enjoyed this movie. I loved how the idea of Wonder Woman came to be in this movie. If I had to grade it, I’d give it a 9/10. Each character in the movie made you feel something different, at least that’s what I felt while watching. 👍🏻
I can relate so well to your thoughts. I saw the movie just a few days ago on tv and immediately bought it on iTunes! My very favorite scene was, when Elizabeth asks for forgiveness. There you can see how much Elizabeth (who I absolutely agree, is the main character) grows through the movie. In that scene she completely brakes down her walls and for the first time she lets her emotions lead completely her way, without shying back again and set the fear control her.

Hey I'm polyamorous and bisexual and I have a girlfriend, some friends that I love dearly but somehow the relationship with them won't go serious or public so I keep calling them friends, aaaand I'm slowly falling in love with my girlfriend's boyfriend because he's really cool and funny. Most of my friends and family know about it and respect it. It raises some interrogations in them, but they're clever enough to just ask their questions and never judge. Some of them even see it as a mark of strenght because it takes some strenght to communicate even in difficult times, or to let your beloved ones time for themselves or time with the ones they love when they need it, but all in all everyone is free and we love it. We are working forward an even better communication. As all types of relationships, it takes some work sometimes, but it fits us better than any other kind of relationship we've known before. My neighbors are in a monogamous poly relationship in Australia . They are really happy. They are about 35 and their girlfriend is 23. They live together and have 3 children. They were really brave and came out as a throuple on facebook. They have faced discrimination from family and friends who believe they aren't loyal and moral. And now we look boring as the lesbian neighbors. Lol just wanted to let you know that they are happy and mostly accepted. Oh and my first throuple in a movie was bandits with cate blanchette. I don't know if that counts though. It's probably more of an open relationship. Anyway your Chanel is bad arse, keep being Fucking great!

Oddly enough I texted my friend this week saying she's an emotionally smart, kind person and I think it's rare. She's also a therapist, but emotional intelligence is crucial I think to understand ones self and how one relates to the world too. Self awareness isn't stressed as important enough. I wish people meditated more or really analyzed themselves to find out what they love, feel ambivalent on, reactive to, etc vs running on gut instincts.

Rewatching this movie now for the 2nd x today. Well directed, acted, smart and tastefully done. My friend and I (both gay women) commented how the sex scenes were all tastefully done. S&m isn't my thing but it wasn't presented in a tacky cringe worthy way (I won't watch 50 shades of grey because it's not a healthy representation of an s&m relationship. I read this from a fanfic that was based on it Carmilla. 50 shades of light Bechloe is trash.) but I firmly agree with you Rebecca Hall's character was more dominant and more of the focus than the male/her husband. He did a great job in the role (loved how he describes together they are the perfect woman) but how it's directed literally focuses more on her. I loved Olive. She wasn't naive as much as sheltered but (BUT!) she was intelligent and could verbally keep up with them. And I felt she loved her more than the professor. There was of course an admiration level to the attraction. The layers to the movie were great. It's an emotionally rich film. And I appreciate Rebecca Hall says it's 3 people in love. Some of the directing was superb. The shot of her in the costume for the first x with the painted backdrop/soft lighting was beautiful. Down to the publisher saying we had female super heroes and they failed. Invisible girl. Well of course! Women already feel invisible! She was doomed to fail. WW has depth. I'll be buying this movie. As someone w a minor in psych (watched it w someone who has a masters in psych) it was great to see the conversations really focused on dynamics and human roles. This was well written and just a very well done movie.

Very rarely do we get to see sex scenes between two women that aren't presented as "for the male gaze" or as sexualizing and fetishizing the women for their sexuality and it was such a breath of fresh air!!

I really like the fact that we, as a society, and I'm not just talking about the US here, are developing our emotional intelligence and communication skills and rational thinking. Questioning traditions and values and how they aply to each of us individually can rarely be a bad thing. And media repesentation and technology has changed the way we live immensely. Media and art or whatever you wanna call them, stories, ideas, people, posibilities has opened a converstation that we can have with ourselves. We're more introspective now and seeing characters or people onscreen (be it the big screen the silver screen or them CZcamss) gives us the tools to not only know ourselves better, but to connect to other people. I think this trend of hightening our emotional intelligence though media consumption will (hopefully) help us to understand others a bit better. Otherness has been so linked to adversary positions when the more interesting part of it is actually seeing posibilities and discussing them and then seeing how they apply to us induvidually or not. The fact that there are people speaking in whichever medium they choose about things that until recently were considered taboo is just awesome. (for lack of a better word). This is getting a bit long and (what's the opposite of ranty?) mushy? but I guess the main thing is that getting a bit better. Slowly, sometimes like, painfully slow, but there is progress being made.
Great movie. Some facts were wrong (such as Olive never went to Harvard and when she met Professor Marston his wife was not with him at the time) but we know so little of the relationship it is hard to say. We don't even know for sure if Olive and his wife were in love with each other or not (they did stay together after his death and Olive's aunt told them not to sleep in her bedroom that only had 1 bed when the two housesitted for her). Olive didn't even tell her children who their father is even though they eventually got adopted by the Marstons. Basically they were so closeted their own children didn't know the relationship so finding out what happened is hard. But it became a great movie overall.

I just watched the movie but..!! but buttt unbelievable perfect..!! I already love wonder woman but ı couldn't know the story that created her !! I'm not sure what should I say but every single person should watch. Olive is extraordinary women also Elizabeth is. Professor Marston is a very clever man and charming. Probably, nobody can stop unaffected by his intelligence. It feels great knowing that it's a real story. After Marston dead, Elizabeth and olive raised their children by love. I wish I could listen to their story from their mouth...!! Is there any interview from 1940s ??

Now, after two years of highly confused introspection, and watching a ton of other positive lgbt+ rep, I'm well aware of my potential to be... not quite straight. I'm still wrestling with figuring myself out and I'm not sure I would call this process a "fucking gift," but I suppose learning more about who you truly are is always a good thing. C B this is a nicely composed comment. I have a cinema degree and I've said by not seeing people you can relate to at all in tv and film makes a person feel invisible. To only see negative representation is detrimental. And it's shown in news and tv that representation of black individuals often supports stereotypes. Also Alycia Denham-Carey would make anyone question their sexuality ;) I'd suggest you also watch Faberry scenes on Glee. Cause Dianna Agron does the same thing. Smart, comes across as cruel but is low key sweet. I'm very glad film is becoming more diverse. As it should because art imitates life.

And as Olivia Wilde's character says in Love the Coopers (I'm paraphrasing) I believe in the power of Nina Simone. Honestly love the coopers is cute and also painfully predictable and I'm biased but Olivia Wilde scenes were worthwhile because her character was snarky.
I liked the movie but didn't think the relationship was all positive even though the movie mostly painted them as victims of judgmental society and they mainly were. The one thing they didn't really touch on is how wrong it is to F your student. I know he wasn't fired for that reason but he should have been. Once she is out of the class all is okay between consenting adult. I'm pretty sure this is even considered rape because of power difference and the teacher's ability to effect her grades. Then what did the other students think? Did any feel they didn't good grades for not sleeping with the teacher? But yeah other than the student teacher having sex and nothing being said about it I liked the movie. Learning more about the creator of wonder woman was cool and how he created the lie detector. Acting was tops and the movie a A+.

I thought I was fully straight until Clexa... how did you put it... "awakened something" in me. Now, after two years of highly confused introspection, and watching a ton of other positive lgbt+ rep, I'm well aware of my potential to be... not quite straight. I'm still wrestling with figuring myself out and I'm not sure I would call this process a "fucking gift," but I suppose learning more about who you truly are is always a good thing. I totally believe in the power of stories to connect people, open minds, alter perceptions, and "shift things" inside of us. C B this is a nicely composed comment. I have a cinema degree and I've said by not seeing people you can relate to at all in tv and film makes a person feel invisible. To only see negative representation is detrimental. And it's shown in news and tv that representation of black individuals often supports stereotypes. Also Alycia Denham-Carey would make anyone question their sexuality ;) I'd suggest you also watch Faberry scenes on Glee. Cause Dianna Agron does the same thing. Smart, comes across as cruel but is low key sweet. I'm very glad film is becoming more diverse. As it should because art imitates life.

sarah jan the beginning song in this video? Nina Simone's feelin good. It's a classic. And as Olivia Wilde's character says in Love the Coopers (I'm paraphrasing) I believe in the power of Nina Simone. Honestly love the coopers is cute and also painfully predictable and I'm biased but Olivia Wilde scenes were worthwhile because her character was snarky.

I liked the movie but didn't think the relationship was all positive even though the movie mostly painted them as victims of judgmental society and they mainly were. The one thing they didn't really touch on is how wrong it is to F your student. I know he wasn't fired for that reason but he should have been. Once she is out of the class all is okay between consenting adult. I'm pretty sure this is even considered rape because of power difference and the teacher's ability to effect her grades. Then what did the other students think? Did any feel they didn't good grades for not sleeping with the teacher?
But yeah other than the student teacher having sex and nothing being said about it I liked the movie. Learning more about the creator of wonder woman was cool and how he created the lie detector. Acting was tops and the movie a A+.
