- About 30 miles North of Bakersfield, in Tulare County, there's the first town that was founded, financed and governed by African Americans in California.
you should have talked to one of the rangers, it is a state park after all.
so what happened to it exactly? why didn't it continue to thrive?
Black people have historically been forced out of their homes in California...gentrification thrives here.
The black folks kids who grow up here in those early day started too leave instead of building on what there grand parents started they decided too go too the city's slowly Mexicans started too buy land and build on the South side of allensworth now I think there's only like 4 or 5 blacks people here and there all in there 70s 80s and the land is saleing fast I live here my whole life nice place too grow up very quiet and with calm nice people here now don't go to alpough lol
Mainly lack of water, when the town was first founded the water supply was artisan, wells were dug on other nearby locations lowering water pressure.
I was invited home by a shipmate in 1952, had a wonderful experience. At Sunday morning church service the preacher asked my buddy and I to stand while he gave us praise for our service and said to me,”you’re always welcome to return young man “ Me, the only white guy in town. Things were a bit different then.
Why couldn't it flourish? We know the dark answer to that..
Great content. Keep it up! Would you like to be CZcams friends? :)
