  • Launching and loading your boat can be challenging...even for the most experienced anglers. In this video I show you how I load and unload my Bass Tracker Pro Team 175. This is the unconventional way to do it, though I find it to be a much easier and more efficient process.
As always, thank you for your continued support. I appreciate you guys and gals!!

@@packattack1762before you back your boat down the ramp, take the straps off in back, make sure your drain plug is in, have your boat already loaded with any gear you're bringing. That appears to be the biggest complaint at boat ramps, and the majority of boat ramps will have a staging area to prepare before you get to the ramp. After you load the boat, immediately pull out to a clear area where you are going to unload your boat and prepare it for the drive home. If you're new to boating, do not rush and make a checklist

  • @steveschisler7553
    @steveschisler7553 Před 3 lety +6

I use a bit longer rope - 40’ - and tether it to my hitch in front of the ball. I unhook the boat strap BEFORE my feet ever get wet, back in, STOP abruptly, when the boat clears the trailer, I pull forward until the trailer is out of the water. I stop and then take the rope off its tether point and pull the boat in and tie it off or dock it. When I load out, I always back in where my feet can stay dry, pull the boat on, lean over and hook up the strap, climb down my easy-steps and crank it up the last 6 inches. Get in the vehicle and pull it to complete tie down process. Dry feet on the way home=PRICELESS!

Especially if people watching have NEVER had to single hand something. Perfect execution in my opinion. 👍🏼

I've used this method many, many times. It's a necessary method on smaller lakes that do not allow you to use your outboard. Your meticulous attention to the step by step process in order to facilitate a flawless execution is not only appreciated but also admired.

When your backing start out straight. Watch your mirrors both sides (not the rear view on the windshield) Which ever side you see more boat on, turn towards its. Think of backing it straight and turn towards your trouble. More boat on the left, turn the wheel to the left. More boat to the right, turn to the right. Just turn towards your trouble. 😉

If I may. If you noticed in the video, Junky has his tail gate down. I cannot tell you enough how much this will help you to learn to back your boat down a ramp. And when you go to recover your boat, it helps to see the trailer. I do it all the time.

Great video. Hope more people watch and learn. Wish more would ask for help, when they really do need it.. lol
None of us were perfect when we got our 1st boat. We made our mistakes and learned. Sometimes we got advice when it wasn't asked for. Eventually, we figured it out.
Lakes are fairly simple, once you find a system that works for you. To each his own.
A river with strong cross current, high winds, waves, and 38° water, just after ice out, (prime time for Walleye), is a whole different story.
I'll fish anywhere, anytime, when life allows ! Early and late season walleye, and white bass runs that coincide are my favorite.
Once I got the right gear and clothing, weather won't stop me, ( as long as conditions are safe, I'm out there ).
Launching is fairly straight forward. You can even use the current or wind to your advantage. If you have a launch with piers on either side, and can choose, things only get easier.
Trying to land a boat in those conditions, even if you have help, can be a nightmare.
I have an older, 19ft V aluminum V-hull, not a deep V. Roughly 3-4 ft of bow is V, then goes flat, rest of way back. Not the best on rough water, but it's all I have for now. Plus, I kind of get the best of both worlds...
I can hit minor waves with the V up front, plus, she'll float in 14, 16 inches of water.
Not the driest ride out there, but I deal with it.
    Back to the landing...
I have a roller trailer, and just installed side bunks last year. They definitely help.
But, it's a total crap shoot, whether she sits on trailer straight or not. Sometimes I can hit it just right, be hooked and off the ramp in less than a minute.
Most of the time, I'm stuck resetting, bouncing the bow over, so it sits right, or stuck leaving it as it is. Good enough to make it home safe, but not sitting perfectly on the rollers.
I've tried changing depth, when I back down... Tried moving side bunks forward or back... Even tried using the winch, to bring bow up straight. I'll get lucky now and then, but it's rare.
Does anyone have advice for landing the boat right, under those conditions ?
Just ordered a self centering bow roller, hope that helps.
The front part of the keel is flat, from previous owners either beaching it, or hitting trailer wrong. Probably both.
There's a crossbar and roller, about 2 ft back from front roller, I can use the self centering on. That should take care of the bow.
The only thing left is getting the transom to sit right.
I know the quad rollers are worn and need work. There's 2 pair. One so back most roller sits right under transom, then forward about 4 foot.
Before I go spending hundreds on rollers and spacers, I was thinking about making pair of short, maybe 2 foot long bunks, that are spring loaded, and can catch the ribs just right, keep boat centered.
Side bunks help a lot, but theyre not perfect.
Wind and waves tilt boat, so when I pull out, the transom is not level, and rollers are sitting in the wrong place, underneath.
Side bunks are tight to the sides, when loaded.
Is there anything I'm missing ?
    Any suggestions ?
So far, no one has told me I'm doing anything wrong.
    Thanks

One word of warning, I have a Tacoma and put my tailgate down like that prior to making the tight turn to get the truck pointed the right direction to back the boat in, and the top of my tailgate now has two dent/puncture marks where the winch handle made contact. I leave the tailgate up until the truck is facing the right direction and ready to back down the ramp. Something else I learned is after taking the strap off the boat, you want the winch handle down low so it's out of the way as the boat floats off and the rope plays out from the truck bed, otherwise the rope can get fouled up in the winch handle. Everything else I do just like you did it. I can get the boat in or out in about 90 seconds now. Nice video.
