i really appreciate these videos and seeing what others are going through - i had a spontaneous pneumothorax about a month ago and they told me it was due to being tal and skinny - just a few days ago i had ANOTHER but it was 5x worse and they said that i should most likely get surgery to prevent more from happening in the future; sure enough, i was put under and had the surgery and they made incisions to scrape my lung to heal it to the outer wall and hopefully prevent anything from happening in the future. thanks for the info and i hope all is well! (ps im currently in the hospital post op with a chest tube hoping to go home soon!")

I didn't have the surgery but my best friend in college did. Same thing, her lung collapsed twice. She is tall and skinny which I guess makes it more likely to happen. She had the surgery where they scar up the lung and it heals to the cavity. I was actually with her the entire time. She recovered really quickly and wasn't in too much pain. She actually refused the pain meds after the first day because they were making her really sick. Was about 5 days in the hospital and then resting at home.

I've been in the hospital three times for my lung collapsing but I never got the surgery. It hasn't been bad enough for me to go back but sometimes I do feel pressure in my back and chest. I decided until I feel like it's bad enough I'm gonna hold out on the surgery. My doctor told me that the surgery consists of finding the weak spot in my lung, cutting it out and then just stitching it back up. I never even heard about the surgery you talked about!

This just happened to me in the exact way you described it happening to you except for me I stood up off the couch and I felt a sharp stabbing pain in my chest and I felt it in my shoulder blades too the first Time happened at work after I just got off. The pain was so bad I couldn’t even drive so I had my brothers drive me home and then my grandma drove me to the hospital where I was diagnosed with a spontaneous phenumothorax. The second time it happened I knew exactly what it was and I went in to the hospital and I got the cats surgery. Still recovering now I’m home but I still have the stitches in I thought it would be interesting to see how else it happened to people. Thank you for sharing!

Hey Lauren! I very much can relate to your story because I’ve been through it about 9 times now... I had the surgery & about 3 different types of pluradisis if that’s how you spell it lol...my 1st one was in 2012 and I was 22...it’s 2018 as of now and I’m pregnant with my first child & got a collapsed lung 😫...it’s something to think about because now that I’m pregnant they can’t do anything girl smh...they tried a procedure that consists of putting your own blood into your chest tube, but that so far didn’t work, now I’m a pregnant sitting duck...trust me not fun! I’m putting my journey with this on my channel as well 😊

Hey @lovinglaurenx! I thought I'd tell you my spontaneous pneumothorax story. Mine first one actually happened in May of 2012, where the blebs on my left lung kept bursting causing my lung to collapse a little so we would monitor it with x-rays but it would heal by itself in about a week. So this went on for about a month and then one day when I was in the lab for my science class i had the same pains again but they were worse this time so we were sent to a specialist in Mobile, AL to try to get answers off why it kept happening. So after all the tests and exams the doctor came in and told us my left lung was 25% collapsed and I needed emergency surgery. That day I was admitted into the hospital and the next morning I had my surgery where they inserted the chest tube and I stayed in the hospital for a week till it was completely healed and then I was discharged. When I was discharged we were informed that normally once you have one spontaneous pneumothorax you're at a greater risk

to have the same thing happen to the other lung, so fast forward to October of 2012 and I was sitting Spanish class and all of a sudden
I couldn't breath and I had the same severe pains but this time on my right lung. We went straight the ER again had x-rays to see what was wrong and my right lung was 30% collapsed. So I was transported by ambulance to Children's Hospital in Birmingham, AL and again had the chest tube inserted and was admitted for a week till it was healed. I had all ready been through the surgery once and knew what to expect but this spontaneous pneumothorax was different where it was completely out of no where and the first one we at lease knew what was going on. I just wanted to tell you my story and let you know that you're not alone, I know it hurts but it does get better. It's been almost four years since my first surgery and every now and then I'll still have random chest pains by I'm thankful that they were able to fix everything.

Your twining with Mariska Hargitay! Her lung collapsed twice and had the surgery. (You can search her surgery stuff up) but you have to on steroid I think and those cause a lot of weight gain (Taylor Swift also named one of her cat after Mariska Hargitay's SVU character Olivia Benson. Similar to how she named another one her cats Meredith ovi after Meredith Grey from Greys Anatomy)

george bloom I had my surgery almost exactly a year ago. I was a smoker for 20 years and stopped after the first collapse. Suffered another 2 all on the right lung. Before they operated the last year has been up and down I can confirm I haven't suffered any collapses soon but for some reason have suffered a lot of pain on the other side so I was naturally worried the other lung would collapse. However they haven't found anything through x rays & scans. So on the whole I've been alright I can't complain. Did they confirm why you had collapses on both lungs hope your better. How long has it been and do you still suffer with pain?

    • @georgebloom2483
      @georgebloom2483 Před 7 lety

Richard Smith I'm a 17 y/o guy, so the only reason my doctors said for having the collapses was because I was tall and skinny.. Since I got out of the hospital around Thanksgiving this year, I've been completely fine with no pain at all, and my surgeon said I can finally go back to normal excerisizing and running today. I hope everything remains good with you, if anything comes up let me know :)

I'm just out of hospital after the operation your talking about. My spontaneous pneumothorax was bad, very bad. It happened on a Saturday afternoon but I thought I had heart burn or bad indigestion and did go to the hospital till Tuesday morning. I walked to the hospital like you did, but once I got there I collapsed on the floor of the emergency room before checking in, also I was unable to talk because I couldn't breathe, so doctors had no clue what was wrong ( think they thought I was drunk or high ) but once an X-ray had been taken my whole left lung was collapsed and the air was pushing my heart 1cm too the right.
I had an emergency chest drain put in to release the air ( with no pain medication, they had no time coz I was dying ) this was the 1st and last collapsed lung hopefully. Anyway
After over a week with the drain in it wasn't getting any better at all, in fact it start to get worse, so I was put on suction to suck the air out as I breathed. I was then told I had to have the operation which you talk about in this video. But once I'd been knocked out for the operation they couldn't do it with 3 small holes ( keyhole surgery) I was cut open, about a 7-8 inch cut from my left side around to my back. So Iv no marks/scars if you look straight at me from the front. The operation was successful and took about 3hrs but I was knocked out for about 6hrs. After that I was back on the ward with an epidural in my spine for the pain, The drug Fentanyl(think that's how it's spelt) which worked wonders numbing the area where I was operated on, with a new drain for blood and other stuff from the operation. But after 2days the epidural failed for some unknown reason so I was put on a morphine drip which was great but made me very dopey and sleepy. 3 days and many X-rays laters the drain was taken out and the next day I could go home!!!
In all I was in the hospital just over 25 days and I'm slowly recovering at home, but I do find that I get out of breath when I'm walking and doing thinks. P.S I WAS a smoker and weed smoker, but now quit completely and I'm talk and skinny all are things that cause this.
I wish you all the best with your health and your study's and life and hope you don't have to go though what I went through. Breathing is so underrated until you can breathe. It been a huge eye opener for myself and quitting smoking was just the 1st step Iv took to being more healthier. All the best and good luck. Hug. James.

+lovinglauraenx Hello! I work in healthcare and I am doing a research study about Spontaneous Pneumothorax or "collapsed lung". There seems to be many different causes, and we are trying to see if there is any correlation to age, gender, weight, or heritage that makes people more susceptible to suffer from a random collapse. If you're interested in helping out, please let me know. Thanks.

a fun mom I had lung surgery last month. I’m 22 .. I had heart surgery in January and my right lung collapsed soon after, had over 2 liters of blood and fluid inside.. got a drain tube they thought I would be fine but it turned into gel and I needed a lung decortication less than 2 weeks later. I’m 3 weeks post op now.

kaleb brooks 3 requiring surgury? by surgury do you mean VATS pleurodesis? I've had 2 vats pleurodeses for two seperate pneumothoraxes on both lungs, and I'm just wondering if the surgury has failed before. my kik is Kitsch99 if you want to talk more about it

kaleb brooks it opened up?? so you got the VATS surgury but it didn't work? if you don't mind me asking, how long after the surgury did it happen? what were you doing/how did it happen? what did it feel like?
sorry for all the questions... I'm just worried it will happen to me haha
