    Simpsons is pretty fascinating with how its technically an adult cartoon but it’s also not so adult that making toys for kids themed after it would seem weird in any way.

    Those Simpsons Movie Burger King toys were a point of GREAT controversy amongst us 8 year olds in the UK at the time. All the advertisements had the regular versions of the characters that the US got, but we got the gold ‘statue’ versions. We also couldn’t figure out why Russ Cargill looked nothing like the character in the movie, and why the Homer toy sounded so weird! To this day, the ‘Yeehaw’ sound that he makes sounds totally wrong to me.

    • @SeekerofTheLost
      @SeekerofTheLost  Před měsícem +13

      That’s actually really interesting!
      That explains why I couldn’t find any UK specific commercials for it.

    • @CrumbySoulsol
      @CrumbySoulsol Před 19 dny +2

      The Russ Cargill thing i could explain: Movies go through a lot of changes, so Russ’s design changed during production was probably last minute, and the toy manufacturing company was too late to change the design to the new one. It still happens today: It happened again with the first sonic movie with the redesign, but the toys still kept the old “ugly sonic” design used during the first trailers. Hope this helps explain some stuff!

    • @Zory13
      @Zory13 Před 18 dny +2

      Homer says "yee haw" in a similar way in the movie when the angry mob picks up their car. The one on the toy might be a different take of the like before the movie was done.

    Holy shit the Simpsons Movie Tie-In Burger King Set.
    This is going to sound fake I know, but my dad worked in a PR firm in Chicago and Burger King was one of their clients- they were the ones who pitched the Simpsons Movie collection to Burger King and handled the marketing for it i believe.
    As a result, my dad came home one day with two large bags filled with multiple copies of all the toys, one for me and one for my sibling, as I guess a reward for successfully pitching the collaboration?
    I don't think I have any of the toys anymore as we've moved a few times and lost them since then, but whenever I see them I think of my dad. He passed over 10 years ago due to throat cancer but I'm glad that him and his team got to be part of this niche historical interest.

    I am really bummed that I missed the one tie in Czechia, I went to see the movie on the day it released but I never went into KFC to get the toy. 😔

    Not a toy but, several years ago at Krispy Kreme there was a special “D’oh-nut” that they sold, I wonder if there are any other food promotions similar to this elsewhere?
