What is the small control box/display in the middle?

I am doing the Grey Matter upgrade on my DX7ii. What is the small control box/display you have sitting on the middle of your DX?

@@aquisgrana5281 Yes, I had it installed for about a year. I just removed it. It didn’t improve anything for me. It really made the menu system very hard to use, and the features were not anything I ever used. Octal mode was cool, but a bit buggy.
