    Watching this from Canada. I just purchased a full waterfall kit from big supplier. Watched all their videos, but I have to say, your instruction and demonstration is the best I have seen barr none. Perfect timing, as I am starting the rock placing tomorrow. Cheers from

    Oh the fun part. I’m raging I didn’t do the backfill with sand. I’ve a lot of gaps in the back of rocks that I had to fill in with gravel. But at least I’m happy with those parts. Every rock “speaks” to you. I placed my biggest rocks roughly first, to try and get some balance, and not waste them.

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes filling full of gravel is ok, did you foam over the top, to stop the water?

    Definitely decided on a spillway under a floating seat. I want to lie across the seat and look down upon whatever water feature I decide on, with the option of dabbling my feet in the water on a hot day. Part of thinking about a these water thingies is visualising it in your head. Watching you, helps me realise the possibilities. Imagined ideas = Realistic probability.

    Superb video as always, sadly for me, a few months too late 😅. Please note that in some country's (in my case The Netherlands) it's very hard to get ahold of waterfall foam. I searched for it but ended up glueing only the smaller rocks in place with silicone.

      So are you using the aqua basin 30 with the 12” spillway? And is that the aqua surge 2000 pump? That’s about the size waterfall that I want. I have about6-7’ to work with and on a very small budget. Thanks for all your help

    Do you get the stone from a local quarry. It looks a very natural colour. Is it best to glue hoses rather than use jubilee clips for a leak free fit? Can’t wait to see part 3.

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Před 4 lety +1

      It depends on a few things. I like glue better as clips can move as pipes heat and cool down.

  • @kalsti1
    @kalsti1 Před 4 lety +2

    I want a sheet falls but only can get this 3” trickle over the spillway. I see that it is probably due to the raised area on the SPILLSTONE. What would be the next best thing to do to troubleshoot? (ie. Increase hose dia. from 1” to 3”?- or get a pump that is 3000 gph?) How long can the professional foam sit opened and on the gun between uses? Thanks!

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Před 3 lety +2

      Great Questions, 1000 gph at said head height will provide 1' 30cm of spill, 3000 gph so triple if it's a rounded boulder 2" 63mm pipe is ok for 3000gph you can get away with 1.5" 50mm if you wish. I found a pro foam gun at the back of my construction container and that was still open and was like new years,

    If my pond is fairly big and the shelfs are tall, the large shelf rocks do not come up past the next shelf that holds the gravel , so I obviously need to stack smaller rocks ot top, should I be using mortar us black foam or those rocks, because it's a rec pond they will be stepped on?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Před 3 lety +2

      depends on the size of stone, use smaller stones under, as foundation rocks, you can mortar rocks in high traffic areas, also walling brook can be used

    Oh boy ….I have soooo many questions!

  • @VitorVieira
    @VitorVieira Před rokem +1

    Dear Mark, a quick question: why do you thread the spillway through the liner? I guess it produces a better water seal in the end. But why not having the hose and a the water spillway coming more from the top into the middle of liner where you wanted it? would it not be good enough to avoid back spill or is there a problem that a newbie like myself can't see? Thanks in advance.

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Před rokem +2

      It’s a much better seal and the pooling is not a problem

  • @kcender3771
    @kcender3771 Před rokem +1

    Mark, it looks like you are using three (total) layers of fabric and liner in some order. I realize that you are building on sand which is pretty benign, but wouldn't you normally use a fabric underlayment first and then liner? You mentioned 'over-lament'. Is that to protect the liner from top rocks and is possibly the top layer? Thx for your great videos!

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Před rokem +1

      An underlayment is often used before placing a liner in a pond to protect it from sharp objects in the ground. However, a specialised setup involves using an overlay on top of the liner to protect it from anything that might cut into the liner, when using heavy rocks use a rock pad and with extra large rocks you can use bags of dry cement and distribute weight more evenly.
      I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the videos and finding them helpful! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

      @@ThePondAdvisor Thank you Mark, I thought I was seeing that 3rd layer and understand your reasoning. Great idea and I will use it!

    @charlottewilson4560 Před 4 lety +2

    I have a question about attaching the liner to the back of the spillway. You mention you don’t want any pinched liner around the flange. What would cause the pinching - is it over tightening? Or cutting the wrong size hole?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Před 4 lety +3

      Over tightening is the biggest cause. The thickness of the liner, correct the size of the hole. Most of the time I use seam tape to reinforce the area where you are tightening the rubber but

    So time is getting close to ordering the parts for my pond. my dilemma is I want a odd set up. pond will be 2k gallons or under, but I would I need to have a tall steep waterfall due to location. something like five to six feet high with only a three foot or so horizontal shift. How much pump will I need to lift this? Any special pitfalls here?

    • @ThePondAdvisor
      @ThePondAdvisor  Před 4 lety +1

      avoid the ant hill effect I would install a fountain and cut out a section, to create a high waterfall in a close space, the pump size depends on a few things, head pressure on the pump, size of the pipe how much water you want

    • @creativecascades1328
      @creativecascades1328 Před 4 lety

      A 5ft high waterfall will be very difficult to pull-off unless you are highly experienced and almost always such a height will look incongruous in a small space. Note how the AQUASCAPES GUYS CONSTANTLY TALK ABOUT GOING JUST TO KNEE HEIGHT OR SO.

    • @mikegrant8031

      @@creativecascades1328 Thanks for the input but its go big or go home, if I don't like the finished product the excavator can make short work of it and try again.
