  • EVER wondered what Oriel Park looked like before the floodlights went up? Has the place changed in 43 years? Was there always a Shed on the Ardee Road side of the ground?
For those who can't imagine what the old venue looked like in 1967, or for those who were lucky enough to experience the first European night at the Carrick Road, this will surely warm the cockles of the heart.
The Dundalk Democrat has been given special access to footage from before and during that landmark event, filmed at the time by the late Jim Malone.
We would like to wholeheartedly thank Una Malone and Gerry Malone for allowing us permission to use their unique footage.
At the end of the clip there is also brief footage from the final home game of the 1975-76 season when Dundalk received the League of Ireland title against Cork Hibs while there is also a couple of seconds from a Dundalk v Shamrock Rovers game interspersed between the two.

My auld fella, Jim Burke, played in this match and loved his time at Dundalk, best years of his career and always welcomed back:). Any more footage of this era?
