Just think of all the young people starting to cook. You saved them, girl. I'm 65 years old, and you taught this old dog new tricks, lol. Thank you so much Angela
Ditto!! You beat me to saying the same!! 😁
I’m one of them 😁 Julia has taught me so many kitchen basics and made learning to cook so enjoyable and easy.
Lol me too
Same! 🎉🎉 Julia takes the snobbery out of cooking videos & makes me want to cook! 👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you Julia! 💕💕
Julia! Not Angela lol. And yes I’m in my early 20s and her channel has helped me very much.
Wiping out the oil in a pan with a paper towel is GENIUS!
I drain the grease onto paper towels into the trashcan.
Thank you so very much! My mom always did that when I was a kid growing up, Libby. Thank you so much for watching💜🙌🏼
I will line a bowl with foil and drain my meat into that. Once it cools and solidifies I can toss the foil and fat in the trash. I also use the paper towel trick when it's a small amount of fat!
That’s what I do as well, it works great
Thank you so very much for sharing your great tip!
The reason wet potholders burn is because it turns into steam immediately upon contact with the hot material in the oven! Steam burns are quick, fast, and need no direct contact to hurt. I’m so glad you included this tip, so many don’t know it!!! Also be careful to not use polyester/acrylic holders on hot items for too long, if at all. The material is plastic and can melt on contact with hot surfaces ❤
This was a trick my mom taught me maybe 60 years ago. I never knew why so I really liked your explanation.
Yes, as a 72 year old and retired Dietary Manager, I know how the water on pot holders works. Things like this was taught by my Mom and should be taught by all Moms.
My dad taught me this when he taught me to cook! Forever grateful for his knowledge ❤ I’m glad someone else found it useful!
Thank you so very much for your explanation! I really do appreciate that and it definitely only takes one time to burn your hands like that. Ugh! Have a great rest of your week and thank you so very much for watching🙌🏼
@@JuliaPachecothank you and likewise!!❤
Make sure to boil soaked beans for about 15 minutes. Toss out that water. Rinse well.
And then cook them as you’d like.
The first boiling will get rid of gas inducing compounds.
Your beans will taste better too and the water won’t look so gross and muddy.
Thank you so very much for your great tip! And I appreciate you watching too🙌🏼
@@JuliaPacheco girl you got it I love watching your videos 👏🏼
Never heard that bean hack good to know
@@michellegriffin1994 Also, I think it’s worth noting that aside from gas inducing compounds in beans, many anti-nutrients like phytates, lectins, and glucosinolates are found in beans and can be removed or deactivated by soaking.
There are things in beans that can be deadly if a bean is eaten raw, for example. I know no one is eating raw means lol, but, I figured I’d mention that to better paint a picture of the importance of boiling beans first and dumping that gross murky water.
Also, for clarification, ANTI NUTRIENTS is anything that prevents your body from fully absorbing minerals and vitamins.
When I first started watching Julia I told her that she cooks like a woman well beyond her years and I meant that in a good way. She just gets right in there like us that have been cooking for our family longer than she’s been around lol. She’s a joy to watch 😊
Well thank you so very much again! You are so very kind and I sure do appreciate your positive support and feedback! That means the world to me🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@JuliaPacheco you’re fun to watch and have great ideas and I’m so happy for your success with your CZcams channel. You should be so proud and your girls are so adorable 🥰
I unfortunately learned the hard way about wet potholders. You gave us alot of great hacks. TFS
Me too! I’m pretty sure we all have. Thank you so much for your comment and I appreciate you watching, Dawn💜
My mom tought me that grease tip when i was younger too! Another hot oil tip for those that need to drain it somewhere; line a bowl or cup with tin foil, pour the hot oil in that. Once the oil cools and re solidifies, you can just toss the tinfoil in the trash! If it doesnt solidify, once it cools, put it in a ziplock and throw it away. My friend showed me that years ago and it was a game changer for me 😊
That’s awesome! And thank you so very much for that great tip about hot grease. I appreciate that too! Have a wonderful rest of your day and thanks for watching🙌🏼
I'm a line cook and these are fantastic tips! My parents never taught me to cook and I started working at restaurants in my 20s so that I could learn :) I'm so happy you made this video so inexperienced cooks can feel more confident.
Well thank you so very much for your positive comment. I’m so happy to hear that you figured out a way to teach yourself and I really do appreciate your kind words here🙌🏼
I've been using an egg slicer go chop eggs by cutting the egg twice...once the long way and once across. Your way is so much quicker and less messy. My teenage grandson lives with me and cooks mac and cheese from a box sometimes. Your hack is a perfect way to get away from the powdered "cheese" on the boxed products. I'll be passing on this great idea today. This video is great for new cooks. They don't teach what we called HomeEc in school anymore, which is too bad.
I am so very happy to hear that you will be able to use the cooling rack trick. Thank you so very much for your positive comment about that and I hope your grandson enjoys this new version of mac & cheese. Thank you so very much for watching🙌🏼🙌🏼
The first suggestion to use your cooling rack grids to easily chop boiled potatoes and eggs is genius!
@ 9.26 Ick! I always rinse my fresh fruit in a collander but never captured the water to see how dirty they were. Oh dear! I use the green bags to keep my fruit and vegetables fresher longer, but I'll definitely add this tip. Many thanks.
Thank you so very much, Debbie! I appreciate your positive feedback about using the cooling racks. It’s definitely an easier way to go about it. Thanks so very much for your positive comment and I hope you have a great rest of your week💜🙌🏼
Hi Julia! Thanks for the berry hack because I hate when my fruit goes bad before I get to eat them all. I’ll definitely be trying that one soon! Also, I love that paper towel trick. I use it all of the time now 🥰
I sure hope it works for you and thank you so very much for your positive comment about these hacks💜🙌🏼
Yes, as a 72 year old and retired Dietary Manager, I know how the water on pot holders works. Things like this was taught by my Mom. A lot of the younger Mothers taught the basics of the kitchen, because they were so busy to really get in there and teach the daughters like the Mothers of my day when they stayed home. Thanks for helping all the young people with your hacks and your channel.
Hi Julia, all great tips. I've burnt my hands more than once from draining something from the microwave, getting my mitts wet and then taking something out of the oven. When I first got married, I use to drain my chopped meat in the colander lined with paper towels when I was making meat sauce. Then if finally dawned on me one day to just wipe the pot with the paper towels. Live and learn. That mac and cheese looks great, I'll have to try that. Thanks for sharing all these mistakes which we all make, one time or another. Stay well and safe.💜
Yes! That definitely happens to in the microwave with the steam. Ugh! It really only takes one time to get burned with a wet oven mitt. Ha ha!Thank you so very much for your positive feedback and I appreciate you💜💜
@@JuliaPacheco I appreciate you too.
I think my favorite hint to use is the papertowel soak up of grease after cooking ground meat! I've been doing that since you demo'd doing in a Dump and Go casserole recipe! I had been saving in jars and then disposing the jars. I think this is much better! Easy too!
That’s awesome! I am so very happy to hear that this trick has helped you so much. I will let my mom know! Thank you so much for your positive support, Gillian💜💜
The paper towel method of removing grease from the plan has been a game changer! Love the kitchen hacks!
I’m really so happy to hear that. Thank you so much for your positive comments and feedback🙌🏼
Wow, Julia, this video was so interesting and full of wonderful tips and tricks. I loved the homemade mac and cheese one. I always do the paper towel one that I learned from you long ago. Hi to Will and the girls. You all have a great new upcoming week and stay healthy, my dear one.
Thanks so very much, Cindy! I hope you enjoy that homemade macaroni and cheese and I’m glad you were able to use the paper towel trick too. I sure will say hello to my family for you and thank you so very much for your love and support💜💜
I love all the cooking and kitchen ideas. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks!? I'm 60 and you taught me some very good new tricks! I especially love the egg and the fresh fruit tricks! I found all of them very useful. Thanks Julia. Love from Texas ❤
I am so very happy to hear that, Cindy. I’m glad that these are helpful and thank you so much for your positive comment💜🙌🏼
Excellent tips!! Thanks Julia for all you do!!
Thank you so very much, Barbara💜🙌🏼
1st of all I totally made the wet pot holder mistake too, lessons learned the hard way have a way of sticking lol. 2nd you saved me this morning. I was sipping my tea watching your video and when it came to the bean segment I realized I forgot to get the baked beans going in the crockpot. If I had forgotten again I don't think my kids would forgive me! I forgot to make them the last time we were supposed to have them at dinner. Thank you Julia 😊
Yes! Once you do it, you will not do it again. And I am so happy to hear that you remembered to do the beans. I have done that so many times! Thank you so very much again for watching and I hope you have a great rest of your day🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Im 53, my husband did all the cooking, but he is in recovery from cancer and julia you taught me how to cook, thank you! These are awesome tips! 💯
I am so very sorry to hear your husband is dealing with cancer. I am sure that is very difficult for both of you💜I am happy to hear that my videos have helped you in some way. That really does mean a lot to me to hear that. Thank you so very much and I sure hope that your husband continues to recover!🙏🙏
I have been cutting my chicken breasts in half horizontally since I started watching you and it really does make it cook better! I also started absorbing the ground beef grease with a paper towel and that works amazingly too! I will definitely be trying some of the other hacks you mentioned!
I am so happy to hear that this has helped you so much! Thank you so much for sharing that and I really do appreciate you and your loyal support here, Carrie🙌🏼🙌🏼
I love these hacks, Julia. Some I already knew of course, I'm 70 now but some I didn't so thank you so much! Also, I personally believe your Mac n cheese hack is far more nutritious than using the pouch cheese.
Yes I'm 71 and that's the way we used to make mac and cheese before box mixes.
Thank you so very much! I sure do appreciate that and that is such a wonderful compliment coming from you💜🙌🏼
I can’t find the fruit containers in your Amazon link 😭 but I’m definitely going to look for that and start doing the baking soda and vinegar thing with my berries. I’m so tired of tossing half eaten containers of strawberries.
I’m not sure why. You never know what is going on! I just looked right now and I went to my video 20 favorite Amazon kitchen cooking and organization items that I just did and scrolled down to the actual name of the item. So fruit veggie prep containers and clicked on that and it was available. I hope this helps and thank you so very much for watching🙌🏼💜
You taught me the paper towel hack and I use it all the time now. I'm 57 and never thought of it and I cook alot.
That’s wonderful! Thank you so very much for your positive feedback about that trick, Kay💜💜
My dear friend, are so amazing. I'm an old lady and you have helped me with so many great ideas and tips. That's why we all love watching your videos. May God bless y'all 👵 🙏
Thank you so very much, Linda. You are so very kind! I sure do appreciate that and I hope you are doing well please stay safe💜💜
Thank you for the tips. I'll be using them. Let me share one of my tips with you. Ever open the wrong side of a spice container and dump a whole bunch onto your food insread of shake out desired amount? I have. So now i put a small white label on the shaker side of the spice container so i know at a glance which is which. Sending hugs from VT. Cathleen
That’s definitely a great one, Cathleen! Thank you so much for sharing that with me and I appreciate your helpful words here. Have a great rest of your day💜🙌🏼
Thanks for these tips. I never thought to add equal parts butter and oil like that. And I'm definitely making that mac and cheese. It looks so easy!
Well thank you so very much! I’m so happy to hear that you found that tip useful and I sure hope you enjoy that mac & cheese🙌🏼
I loved this video - I did not get a meat thermometer until well into my 40’s and wish I’d bought it ages ago! My other suggestion is a good kitchen scale - so handy!❤
That is a great tip. I appreciate that! And yes, a good meat thermometer is so important. Thank you so much for your positive feedback!🙌🏼
As much as I love and use your cooking vids, I just as equally love these different vids, too. I've already decided to get several of the tools you mentioned in your last video and now I've just gotten into this one and that egg-slicing trick is worth the price of admission alone. I was going to make egg salad today so the hack couldn't have come at a better time. Love you, Kiddo!
I am so very happy to hear that! Thank you so much for sharing your positive feedback about my channel, Rachelle💜💜 I am so happy you enjoy these sorts of videos too and I hope you enjoy the gadgets too🙌🏼🙌🏼
So many great tips and hacks. Some of them I have already incorporated into my cooking routines from watching your previous videos. How great to have them all in one video!
That’s wonderful to hear! Thank you so very much, Shelley and I hope you have a great rest of your day💜🙌🏼
Thanks so much Julia. The paper towel to soak up grease is still my favorite but I learned a few new ones today that I'll enjoy trying. Julia, I've been purchasing some new kitchen gadgets from Temu. I hope you'll do a future video featuring some of their products. Happy Sunday:)
I’m so happy to hear that you enjoy that trick so much and that it has helped you! And thank you so much for your suggestion too. Have a great rest of your day and thank you so much for watching, Cheryl🙌🏼
I usually watch all of your videos on my smart TV so I can't comment on each one. But today I was on my laptop and saw your notification of a new video. Thank you for sharing all these tips with us!
Thank you so very much for watching whatever way you can! I sure do appreciate that and thanks so much for the positive comment today, Donnelle💜💜
Enjoyed it! So many great ideas! Love how you kept the video moving! Just one great thing after another! 😊

@JuliaPacheco I was cooking sausage last week to use in my unstuffed cabbage roll soup and I was like "I'm going to try the paper towel trick" - I'm HOOKED!! ❤ it

A family friend bought us the strainer you use for a housewarming gift recently. It is the best strainer I've ever had!
That’s wonderful! I’m so happy to hear that you love it too, Emily. Thanks so much for watching💜
I so appreciate these tips! I’ve always just used a potato masher to dice up my hard-boiled eggs, but I’m going to try your cooling rack method. You are such a wise and helpful person, Julia!
Thank you so very much and I sure hope you enjoy that tip. Thank you for watching and I appreciate you and your support💜💜
Thanks Julia!
I did that long ago with pot holders. Bad burn on hand.☹️
Thank you for great tips 😊❤️
It only takes one time! Ha ha. Thank you so very much, Patty and I hope you have a great rest of your week🙌🏼🙌🏼
Love that sunny flowered blouse you're wearing. The hard boiled egg trick; that didn't occur to me (and I've been cooking a long time now). Thank you, Julia.
Well thank you so very much! I really do appreciate your kind words and I’m happy to hear that the cooling rack trick might be something that you can use. Have a great rest of your day and thanks so much again💜💜
Just want to thank you Julia. I have made a lot of these rookie mistakes. I have been married less than two years and have definitely enjoyed using your recipes to make our dinners a lot more delicious and exciting. Without you, I would be at a loss for new ideas in the kitchen. Also thanks for your extreme budget meals. So lifesaving! Basically, thanks for teaching me how to cook well. Grateful for you!
Oh my goodness! And I am so grateful for you too! Thank you so very much for sharing that with me and I am so happy to hear that you’ve learned so much from my channel. That really does make my day and thank you so much for your loyal support along the way. Have a wonderful rest of your week and thank you so much for watching💜💜💜
Just loved the tip your Mom gave you about using the paper towel to mop up the grease from the chopped meat! My Mom taught me to pour it into an empty soup can or paper cup and freeze it until garbage day LOL One new hack I want to share that shocked me is to put whole avocados that are just slightly ripe into a covered container of water and keep them in the refrigerator! two weeks on they are still perfectly fresh! I'm not throwing out avocados anymore, YAY!!!! Great tips, Julia, Thank you!
Do you mean the covered container has just a bit of water in it with the avocado or do you mean to cover the avocado with water in a covered container?
Thank you so very much, Liz! It is a pretty good hack. And thank you so very much for sharing that avocado trick. I really do appreciate that and have a great rest of your week🙌🏼
@@bethbrec I actually use a plastic container that originally had my collagen supplement in it. It will hold about 4 medium avacadoes, and had a screw on lid. I submerge them completely. It really is amazing how long they stay fresh! I was also told to buy avocados that still have
Sorry. Still have a bit of a stem on them. This water method works for lemons too so probably limes as well!

Thank you for the tips! ❤
You're so welcome!
I miss your cute salt and pepper shakers. My grandmother collected them. Great idea on the cutting up eggs. When I was a young married and learning to cook. I did what you did BUT I ended up burning the inside of my hand. it took quite awhile for it to heal. your girls are getting so big. I liked seeing your "helpers" in your shorts.
Oh my goodness Hazel! That sounds like it was quite a bad burn. Thank you so very much for your positive feedback about my shakers. They are still around! I’m so happy to hear that you enjoyed this video! And thank you so much for your kind words about my girls💜💜

The lemon/vinegar trick is great. Little things like that helped me help my mom to lose over 50lbs in less than 6 months. All of her numbers are in check and didn’t “diet”. Just little changes at all meals.
Also, the meat mashed thing looks awesome. I hate touching ground turkey- even with gloves on😂- so this would be ideal for turkey meatballs. Thank you!

Food science major here, cook with oil and finish with butter since oil has a higher smoke point and butter tends to burn (but can brown if added at the right time!). Love your videos and best wishes to everyone who cooks for themselves/their loved ones/just to feed others! ❤
