    She's awesome performing a very difficult opera. The critics are jealous. The audience had the final say and they loved it.

    This is a voice for Abigaille... some technical difficulties, but she is fearless and has a voice unlike some mosquitoes trying to sing Abigaille!!

    AMAZING! EVERY NOTE WAS CAPTIVATING.
    The most dramatic soprano i've ever seen or heard.

      +StichtingDroomwevers Wow.... I don't mean to sound patronizing, but then you can't possibly have heard many dramatic sopranos. Ghena Dimitrova would have blown her off the stage, as well as Eva Marton, Kirsten Flagstad and Helen Traubel, just to drop a few names. Unfortunately three of these formidable ladies are dead. Gail Gilmore has quite an impressive voice, at times even beautiful, but the diction is sloppy and there's very little elegance to spot. Dimitrova owns this role in my book.

      I agree with you. She is courageous to sing it live but she has not the voice to be a credible Abigail. Some notes are quite abominable. I was lucky to hear Dimitrova in 1984 and I was stunned ! Miss Gilmore should listen to her, she would give up singing this aria at once !

    I heard a lot of wobbling, shrieking and juddering, but precious little singing. Frustrating, because she has good ideas about characterisation, creating a mood and singing off the words, but the voice just is not equal to what she wants it to do. The final top C was horrendous.

    All these mask singing impares her of real and engaging singing. Everything small, nasal, woofy and wobly... This kind of vocalism is simply killing opera as an art form!

    • @wallenstein72
      @wallenstein72 Před 3 lety +5

      Sorry to contradict, but what she does, is the complete contrary of mask-singing. In fact, the tone is produced deep down in the throat, and there is not the slightest hint of nasality, too. In fact, there is a huge "Knödel". If you are looking for classic mask-singing, turn to Callas

      Just a note to check in with you.
      After claiming Callas sang in "the mask", are you still safe & sound ?

      @@cliffgaither Haha! Thanks a lot. I am safe and sound thanks to constant mask wearing in public. At home, I take the mask of for singing and continue doing that into an invisble mask. Even singing technique became more complicated in these times. But thank you very much for caring!

      It's always good to hear from a singer, not being one myself but I like opera.
      Your opinion about Callas' singing is definitely not mainstream.
      In my humble opinion, it has always been amazing how her very bad singing --- later in her career --- was always excused. What she was able to get away w / no other singer would have a career --- or maybe they would considering what they offer now ...
      She must have compensated on stage with great histrionics ?
      ( Very clever about "the mask singing at home". )
      What do you sing ?
