It is so amazing to find an old kit like that! I look forward to watching you build it Terry! Back in the 1970s I found a bunch of unbuilt HO kits at a flea market, they were all from the 1950s. I still haven't built any of them, but they are nowhere as cool as that locomotive kit.

Oh boy this is going to be good. It has to be built and run. As you say thats what its for. The British railways emblem that came with it is pre 1956 it changed to the feret and dart board after that. Not proof that the kit is pre 1956 but its in that ball park. Its not going to be easy but if I know you that engine will be running sooner rather than later. Fantastic so kind of John👍

What a wonderful thing to have, a real treasure! Thing is, keep it as a it or is it too tempting build? Given it's heritage and all the detailed parts maybe it would be fitting to build it as a UK loco? I had a quick look and given the price of £15 and 15 shillings I would estimate it's age as mid to late 50s. Whichever way, a thing of beautiful nostalgia. BTW, make sure of your prep before you solder 😁😉

    • @Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi
      @Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi  Před měsícem +2

@@watchfordpilot haha. Thanks Steve. I’ll prep. ☺️ I am leaning toward Canadian National because there is literally no way to have a Canadian engine in live steam in O, I have lots of Canadian (and USA) O gauge rolling stock and accessories, and I think it would be something to have a one of a kind. I don’t think that would hurt its value and not honour its heritage. It would be little different, perhaps, than a regular builder doing a bad job at their own LMS or BR paint job. And besides I’ll still have the buffers and such for a future owner.

The transfers look as if they are the first British Railways logo, the "cycling lion". That dates the kit as 1948 or later.

    HHHHMMMMMMMMMMMM YOU LUCKY FISH
You know how i feel about these basset lowke engines
Someday I'll get my hands in one
    Idk how
    Idk when
But I'll get one some day
And most likely be in serious debt
I personally wouldn't convert it to north American
How ever I've never had something like that so i can't really say anything
I would make a special adapter for the engine to connect to other rolling stock
How ever at the end of the day it's your engine
And its history doesn't seem to be written yet
So you are the one who shall start its history

Congrats I never had to quarter drivers before, good luck with that. Aster owners keep kits in the box for decades and resell them for crazy money also. The black one you fixed up looks good. What kind of high heat paint did you use on the boiler? Did you do the lining on it? It looks great.
