What kind are those turtles in the back?
My tank is at the right side from my bed, so when I wake up my turtle is already awake swimming around.
As soon as I sit up on my bed:
Turtle: *OMG OMG YOU'RE AWAKE! NOTICE ME! NOTICE ME! FEED MEEEE!*

Reeves turtles, particularly the males also tend to stay small. It's slightly confused by their seeming to be two populations, the Japanese form that tends to stay sub 5 inches and the Chinese form that can get to 6-8 inches when female. European pond turtles are also fairly small, similar to spotted turtles in many ways.

I really love my razorback, probably my favorite. She just walks along the bottom so chill unlike most turtles where they just flap around the water surface, could be part of her personality as well i guess.They stay pretty small.
They're so much more enjoyable to watch than a slider or other baskers that just hang out in one spot most of the day
6 inches that’s quite big
African dwarf mud turtles (Pelusios nanus) are a great smaller species also. They are personable, eat pellets well, decently colored for a mud turtle, hardy, and don't even bite.

Awesome video. Mud turtles spend most time on the bottom and they are kind of mini snapping turtles so they are really cool. You can easily keep them in a 50 gal with not super high water level. Great job as always Dan!

Yeah, sternotherus are great. I like the fact that they stay on the bottom and that they walk and climb: I hate to see turtles swimming against the glass.

Taiwan is the last place you think of when we talk about turtles, however it's a turtle heaven ! I have 8 myself . Another great thing is professional services are very available and they are very passionate vets . That being said the climate of course also being tropical sub tropical makes it that much easier to just raise one on your balcony using natural sun . So I personally have 2 full grown map turtles , a ninja turtle, a musk turtle , a white lipped mud turtle , a pink faced crooked neck turtle, a red eared slider, a yellow bellied slider, and my favorite the unnoticed not so popular Chinese golden thread turtle (these get huge) . Now I'm currently eyeballing this full grown alligator snapping turtle everytime I re-up on fish and stuff i go check if he's still chilling in the of this dudes fine establishment here .

Absolutely amazing video, I've kept common musk turtles, they are an amazing species, kinda moody though, I'd love to keep spotted turtles, unfortunately you can't keep them in Ohio.
HIIIII I’m getting a musk turtle and Cumberland slider, I had 2 western painted for 1 year and they died😔 and early
Question: I have a baby to like young juvenile western painted turtle and red belly slider (tho the slider is about 5 inches and the painted is about 3.5 inches) and I am soon upgrading them into a stock tank mini pond. And here in Florida it’a getting cold, so I was thinking how cold could they sustain for the night. (How powerful a heater for a 80 gallon or so tub)
It depends on the temps...if they can handle cold temps they should be ok and may enter partial brumation. If they're young and fragile just bring them inside at night til it warms again :)

I would say get a heater, just because, of this weird colder then normal winter going on that way....
I got my 300watt on Amazon & it's not glass , has a cover and good for staying at temperature (60-120 gallons 35$ now)
I bought a temp gun to test for water & basking spot temps ..
Just a Digital probe thermometer will help you keep things at a steady temp !
I want to convince the land lady to let me get a tub for outside in the summer for my slider ,I live in California day time would be great to let her out for real UVB 😁

Don't you need a surface where they can rest? They look stressed out
They have a baking platform to rest on, and they can rest as well on the plants. They easily float on them + have them for support.

What about the Reeves turtle? Males get to 4'5 inches...
Reeves turtles stay very small and are very inexpensive and easy to keep.

Ahh I really wish I could get some of these turtles!! (Esp Diamondback terrapins). However, in my country (Singapore), red eared sliders the only turtles that are allowed to be kept as pets :(

What’s the turtles in the background
I got a female northamerican yellow bellied turtle that is about 30cm or 11 inches its about 20 years old. I also have a female mississippi map turtle also about 20 years old. I got them as a kid and neither my parents or me did know they got that large and old (we dont have turtles in sweden). The yellow bellied one kills or destroy anything I put in their tub, fish, frog, heating stick and so on, but is friendly to the map turtle. Can you make a video about large adult turtles?

hey dan, today my baby red eared slider got out of his inclosure and fell on his back outside of it, and he may have been there 1-3 hours. he’s doing this thing where he opens his mouth really wide and looks up, almost like he’s taking a huge breath. he does this every couple of minutes. I’m so confused, do you or anyone else know what’s going on? and how I can help him? please 🥺
Take him to the vet and get an X-ray done
