    When landing alone three point is preferred. When landing in groups, almost always the case in WWII, wheel landings were performed. A wheel landing allows you to see what the guy in front of you is doing.

    You want the rudder trim set to 6° because of P-factor. The plane on Takeoff is at high angle of attack/ high deck angle, low speed and high thrust. Once level and at higher speed the designed set in, off angle of the tail fin starts to take care of most of the rest. But if you get the airplane at high or low angles then add power you will need a little or a boot full of rudder

    Cap, it would great to see the re-run, from out side the aircraft! That way we can see the landing from a spectators view!
    Plus you can review the landings! Just a thought!

    It’s incredible satisfying landing this plane smoothly without bouncing

  • @arjunlakshminarasimhan3609

    I land this plane by hovering above the runway extremely close to the ground with a speed of 100-120 mph before idling the throttle and letting her stall onto the ground. This avoids bounces and she settles on the ground and will be easier to stop. I also use this method to stop on carriers without falling off.

    From my experience what I basically do on landing is cut throttle at the threshold, *almost* touch down and only adjust pitch a little to keep it a foot off the ground until it slowly settles onto the runway. Shouldn't bounce then.
    Granted I only fly the TF-51 and not the full module. Not sure how much difference that makes but I doubt it makes a difference for the flight model.

    • @fifteenbyfive
      @fifteenbyfive Před 5 lety

      I'm landing safely every time but I'm bouncing the wheels once (or twice) every time too. Gonna take more practice to really slide her in. Thanks for the advice. When you say cut throttle are you saying bring it all the way back? I'm not doing that. I just drop throttle on approach until I get the warning buzzer and pip it up one notch from there land it like that.

Don't know if it's because I played il-2 before but I was just startled when I landed this thing first try

    if u fly a glideslope on final and then make a flare, that both demand 20% throttle to comepnsate the missing kinetic energy, you will impact with less total energy, if you cutoff the throttle the very second of touchdown. meaning: flare as long as you can with about 2700rpm and go idle when you hear you wheels. you wont balloon anymore. you can also reduce ballooning by applying about 30% brakes on touchdown. idk if that applicable irl, so maybe the latter tip is cheating :)

  • @isaacmcpeek9636
    @isaacmcpeek9636 Před 4 lety +2

    You WOULDN'T want to go without trim in a real airplane. Its a real bear without it.
    AND REMEMBER PITCH FOR AIRSPEED POWER FOR ALTITUDE IN LANDING. And many real pilots including myself don't always use full flaps as it creates too much ballooning in ground effect on landing.

    So… I managed to get off the ground after many many tries. Then I had to tackle why the left wing keep diving to the ground after getting off the ground. THEN I was able to get it in the air a fair amount but it’s keeps shaking and going into a spin and I’m not sure why.

  • @fifteenbyfive

    Just downloaded DCS and I've got a newbie problem with the Mustang. Why am I steering to the left so badly on the runway on takeoff? I understand the engine has a lot of torque. I'm using the widely agreed 6 degrees of right rudder trim. I'm taking off on the runway but just barely, and that with additional right rudder. When I feel the tail come up I can pull up just before going off the runway and I'm wobbly (not a smooth curve up) every time because I'm still fighting with the rudder pedal as I lift off. Landing the TF-51D is as easy as taking off is hard.
    Taxiing? I mastered spinning the plane in circles but I've never been able to tail that Humvee yet. The tutorial doesn't get into differential braking until later in the lesson so obviously it expects me to taxi the thing effectively without doing that. Is this just making it unduly difficult to torture people without giving them the full lesson before they begin practice or what?
