    OMG !!! If that's how this dog has a "tantrum," it's beyond adorable !!! Sorta reminds me of cussing. You know--like @#$!%^ , the equivalent of mumbling under your breath. At the end how deliberately she picked out "I love you." How many dogs can dog-cuss with buttons, let alone with their back feet? Bunny, you get a trophy from me for accomplishing that. • @JWildberry
      @JWildberry Před 3 lety +26

      I hope you'll spread the word! Large male dogs are often abandoned in their teens because they become a handful. Their bodies are almost fully grown, and their owners expect them to act like an adult at that point. So when their large, teenage dog starts forgetting all the training, stops listening, and generally acts like human teenagers do, people give them up because they think they failed. If they knew it was a temporary phase, that the dog simply hadn't finished developing yet, I think it could prevent a lot of dogs from getting rehomed or ending up at shelters.

    • @debbielockhart7762
      @debbielockhart7762 Před 3 lety +9

    • @labella9291
      @labella9291 Před 2 lety +5

      @@JWildberry This right here. And like human teen males, they sometimes get challengey, which can be a bit much if the dog is from a large or powerful breed. This is why people should also carefully consider what breed is right for them. A golden retriever or labrador challenging you is a little less scary than a rottie or cane corso. Learning to redirect is a great tool to begin with, but a necessity with these guys, when pushing back COULD, (because they're just stupid teens and having a lot of different things going on with them) result in a bite. The second fear stage is real, the challenge stage happens, and the last thing anyone wants or needs is a hormonal teen large breed getting challengey, being pushed back, getting him scared and then he fear bites. Or worse, bites because he's like Titus, and he's like, I think I can take you. (Bonus for all the old farts like me that get the references, lol).
      And before someone goes there, I don't believe in pediatric sterilization, especially for large breeds. They NEED those hormones to physically develop properly. Also, I have found that it's worse, psychologically for these dogs, because they're literally stuck in an extended puppyhood, and all the weird puppy behaviors that come with being a puppy. YMMV

    This is one of the very , very few channels on CZcams that show how to live with a dog properly.
    Excercise, Engagement, Encouregement, Enrichment, love and respect.
    No dressing up Bunny for views.
    No stupid humiliation/ reaction "challenges".
    No deliberate antagonism to elicit an entertaining response.
    No fanciful interpretations of her actions (meaning when owners put thought bubbles and subtitles to videos of the dogs behaviour).
    No pushing anthropomorphic "desires" ( birthdays, shopping sprees, grooming salons, dog fashion etc).
    No undeserved indulgement.
    Just a big dog with an unfiltered dog personality that (may) actually communicate with people.
    You guys are the BEST dog carers online.
    No wonder Bunny is so responsive, you're allowing her to be her own dog, as a dog (if you know what I mean).

    • @AriasArius
      @AriasArius Před 3 lety +22

      I don’t see anything wrong with sharing human activities so long as the dog expresses interest. They did evolve alongside us after all so, it’s not like you’re stuffing a wolf in a tutu.
      I’ve seen a few skateboarding dogs that seemed to really enjoy that activity. Or some dogs that actually like wearing clothes. Dancing is another thing that is very much a human activity but can be enjoyed by dogs as well. Heck, if you look at the job side of human activities to share those pups seem to be very happy to have work to do, wether it’s something like herding sheep or doing deliveries for their owner.
      I think so long as you keep their physical limitations in mind (don’t put excessive strain on joints or muscle) they’ll generally be up for doing anything.

    • @graphite2786
      @graphite2786 Před 3 lety +31

      @@AriasArius Yes I've seen plenty of vids where dogs enjoy non canine/human activities.
      The owners have exposed their dogs to enrichment and new experiences. The dog shows evident joy and actively engages in the behaviour.
      I fully support that.
      What I dont like is when owners force their dog to do these activities (the dog is not happy ) and find the outcome humorous for their channel.
      Guilty dog, sad dog, pranking my dog....
      For example when the owner pretends to be dead and the dog becomes seriously stressed
      Or putting makeup on the dog.
      Or pretending to feed the dog only a tiny amount so the dog gets upset ( funny tantrum)
      Or pretending that the dog is invisible, continually calling it by name while simultaneously ignoring it.
      Or pranking the dog with a scare.
      Or berating the dog for some minor misdemeaner to illicit a guilty ( appeasement) response.
      Or projecting the desires of what you want and applying it to the dog. (Dog spa, dog fashion, dog bling, dog makeover...when in actual fact the dog just wants to roll in horse shit, play with friends and sniff at trash).
      Dogs are dogs, I've lived with a few and fostered rescues. They aren't on this earth for a long time so every day counts. Give them what they want within set boundaries. Include them in your activities as much as possible. Have a flexible routine. Adjust your life to benefit the dog, not the other way around.
      Make their lives joyful and stress free.
      From what I can see, Bunny is getting exactly that and I really like it.

      Dog subtitles are hilarious and harmless. It’s added in editing, how is that a problematic way to live with the dog? I get that people get bristly about anthropomorphism but 1) it’s a joke and 2) “doggo lingo” is literally just all based in what we observe of dog behavior. It’s not implying they’re going off on Hamlet-style soliloquys or pondering the ethics of crate training (which, again, would just be for laughs anyway; Sad Dog Diaries is a riot); they’re “talking” about their feelings, snacks, playing, dog and human friends, etc.
      Now, I can see how this might lead to “characterizing” dogs in a certain way for entertainment, and that can be a problem. I really enjoy Shiro and Suki the shiba inus but the owner has been IMO too lenient with Shiro’s aggression towards his pups, probably because it gives the sense of a “character arc” as the pups get older and Shiro mellows toward them naturally. The owner always intervenes and scolds Shiro if he gets snarly, but there doesn’t seem to have been an effort to train Shiro constructively out of that aggression or, if that’s not feasible, keep boundaries in place so he can feel secure and not bothered by those stress-inducing little goobers!
      So that’s something to be careful of, but it’s all too common with humans too. Less anthropomorphism and more the blurring of life and content, which is sadly an easy trap to fall into for any CZcamsr. But the nice thing about animals is they provide great content just being themselves! The subtitles are a cute way to emphasize that, though of course not necessary for enjoyment. I think Oliver the Beagle is another good example of a dog just being a cute dog, with occasional subtitles added. :)

    Bunny is beautiful and intelligent. You can see her trying to figure out how to communicate. THE best thing you can do to to help her now, as a teenager, is to exercise with her. She needs to blow off that energy so she can focus. This is true for most dogs at this age (except for the couch potato types). Run, hike, swim, more than before. What a sweetheart.

    I love watching your video’s. It’s amazing too see what you (mom, dad and Bunny) have accomplished. Very inspiring!
    My little brother has many disabilities and when he was young (I think he was 2 years old) when learned him too communicatie with these kind of buttons (he is also blind so we had to attach something to each button for him to feel so he could feel to recognize the buttons). I was 12 or 13 years old at that time I think. I am now 33. And we didn’t had a dog. And I really really really wanted a dog. And I knew my little brother loved dogs. So I thought him to say, with the buttons, I want a dog 😅 and it was all he would talk about, he got very exited 😂❤️ and the rest is history 😂 (a lovely Jack Russel named Tai, the 3 of us were very close).
    Before I recently discovered your videos I was thinking about (I never saw it before in a video or something) if our dog Dora could learn to communicate with buttons. So i was and am very excited to try sometime. I was already trying to talk more clearly to her and repeat my sentences more to her. It’s very motivating and especially exiting to see that you do that with Bunny.
    Thank you for sharing your video’s!

Oldest dog walks backwards = “follow me”. I follow.....the oldest dog would either lay down or sit or paw my second dog (the abused mentally challenged dog) then I would say to my oldest “show mommy!” She would make me walk to the back door and paw on it=“play/relax/potty outside” me asking her “go outside?” Then she’d jump like “YAY YOU GOT IT!!!” The is call my 2 dogs to go potty. Yep. My oldest dog telling me my abused dog (from previous owner) needed to potty. NOTE: our second dog was a court case that the previous owner abused her mother while pregnant with (my) dog and her brother....and it continued after my dog was born. One important thing is (I’ve seen this) when dogs get stressed they’ll chew and tear up stuff. Not to get even cuz life isn’t fair but because for example usually you’re gone to work for 8hrs but the next day 30-60 minutes longer, so they’ll get stressed and miss you and will chew on stuff even their own bed in their crate! Please do a deeper research of your pets background, you don’t know what you missed! My second dog, when her mom was pregnant with her and her brother (maybe other siblings?) she was abused and neglected so my dog is mentally challenged as a senior, we trained her kind general commands like “sit” and she doesn’t understand. Another subject compared to our 3 dogs, with her if we’re excited we can’t yell hooray or have a high pitch voice or she’ll be scared and pee herself....she doesn’t understand happy loud and angry loud....
      MY POINT IS EVEN IF YOU GO GET A
      DOG MAKE SURE YOU MAKE RESEARCH ON THAT DOG. my dusty that’s been abused in the womb, she’s slow but sure is full of love!

    I always said that doggos were very human-like. They are toddlers, then childrens, then teenagers (o, the time where they're young and they often eat your shoes or run away in the woods lol).
    Then, they grow up and are more mature. They are not childish all their life. An old dog is like a senior human, more quiet and wise.
    They evolve just like us.
    When my big doggo was a tiny puppy, it was like being a mom. I felt like I had a real baby. I didn't sleep well for months lol. But yeah, they have a teenage time, where it asks you a lot of patience and dedication, exactly like a child. Imagine if people abandoned their teenager childrens because they are difficult. Just be patient and loving, and the teen will become the best buddy you could dream of.

    It's so easy to label behavior we don't understand as "tantrum" or "naughty".
    Parents often do this in order to play the "Knower" role to pretend they know what they don't, or to escape the feeling of confusion or "not-knowing".
    I like how you instead say, "Makes me wonder what she wished she could communicate".

    What anyone wants to be able to say most is to communicate wants and needs. The majority of language is comprised of nouns. Does Bunny know what everything important to her is called, like marrow bones, or the counter they are stored on for instance? This is how we learn too, starting with Mommy, Daddy, or Bottle.
    My dog Gunnar knows all his body parts, the names of foods, furniture, rooms, bath, water, rain, sun, etc... Sun is a tough one we're still working on, but you get the idea. We haven't gotten him buttons, but he understands and can signal if we hit on the issue or item. I did this with my previous Belgian, Shep, and he had a pretty firm grasp of the English language. It very often surprised people and they would comment on it, unprovoked.

    When my dog communicate they have tantrums too. Each dog communicate differently. The only way you can understand is patience and their acting behavior...for example my oldest of 3 dogs-pawing on me=“hey mom!”, walking backwards=“follow me!” Or “I wanna show you something”, pawing on random object=“I want this” (I could give you details on that), stumping while growling=love me, scratch me, hug me, I want to hug you.

      I feel like it's just a matter of pairing the button up with desired outcomes enough times that Bunny eventually learns "please" means she is more likely to get what she asked for. For instance, if Bunny says she wants to go outside. First response is "No, maybe later." Bunny realizes she's been denied and thinks what she can do to persuade her. Hmm... The 'please' button, maybe? "Please." "...Oh...all right, we'll go!" Do that enough times, and Bunny learns "please" is her final bargaining chip when things aren't going her way...

    Cats go thru the "teenager" phase as well. It's so sad that people often abandon their animals at the first sign of any kind of challenge with regards to behavior, rather than working thru it. 💔 (I had a cat who was a "bottle brat" and he was labeled "dangerous" at the vet's office because he would claw and bite because he didn't like to be handled. It took me more than 2 years of clicker training and working with him, but I was able to change his behavior, and he stopped being aggressive.)

      Koko the gorilla taught Michael the gorilla how to use modified sign language when he was young. Keep in mind those are great apes and not canids but, it’s an example of an albeit small sample of a species using human language to communicate.
      I suspect so long as communicating in this way seems advantageous, they would try. Maybe for abstract concepts like time or referring to things that aren’t in the present moment.
