Long ago (1969) I made a contest in the Sahara desert (near Djanet) with my little Citroën 2CV (625 cm3 !!!) with 2 persons VS a Land-Rover (old type) with 5 persons. The 2CV arrived first, after being stuck 3 times (but very light and easy to set back in a few minutes) while the Land was stuck only ONCE, but they have been shovelling sand for one hour or so !!! Weight, tyres, driver ... this is what makes the difference. The little Lada Niva and the Suzuki Jimny are just incredible (both quite light).
Dacia driver managed it but Land Rover driver took ages to learn how to deal with the hill Says as much about the drivers as well as the cars and tyres
same tyres same driver, would be a fairer test, as the Duster is made in Romania this test is suspect, being English does not mean i prefer the Land Rover ( this model of Land Rover failed the crash test on top gear) as my last 2 cars were a Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler the grand daddies of all 4x4s but i do like the Dacia Duster for its price and ability.

Could have been done to make the Dacia look better than the freelander ,plenty of freelander video's on here showing how good they can be with a GOOD driver and tyres .

Cauciucurile la Land Rover sunt mai late, bugetul fiind mic ele sunt proaste (presupun) . Soferul nu prea are experienta, poate are o gramada de bagaje inauntru si e grea masina. In orice vaz dusterul probabil e masina de serviciu la cum intra ala cu ea

Daca vrei sa circuli in conditii grele de iarna iti iei anvelope cu profil cat mai pronuntat si cat mai colturoase nu cu profil neted . Dar multa lume nu stie ce cumpara si cauta marca . These guys are just flooring it and hope for the best. The duster has no low range gearbox and the 1.5 diesel does not have enough torque to crawl up the hill. Ive ridden one and for un paved roads these are more than ok, but please dont consider them proper 4x4’s
You didn't drive it enough, that's for sure. They are proper off-roads. CZcams is full of Duster owners who go off-roading on a daily basis. I have one too. Its great. I'm not going rock-climbing or off-roading like you see in TV shows but you can literally go anywhere you need to go with it.
We drove a nearly new rental one for 3500 odd kilometer through Namibia. And like you stated it was perfect for off-road gravel roads and light trails. But the lack of torque and a low range gearbox meant we had to take a taxi (3.0 Nissan patrol safari truck) to cross a patch of loose desert sand with rocks and dunes. Its a perfect real world 4x4, but not the one I would choose to go overlanding.

That duster is half the price of a fucking ancient Landover they haven't made for years! So the duster is what a £500?
