    Been to Whitby and loved it, going again this year and the railway, moors and food are excellent. So sad that so many travel abroad all the time without exploring and knowing their own country too. Britain is beautiful and not enough people realise it. Excellent Video, thanks.

      Had another great time in Whitby and went to Robins Hood Bay, Filey and Goathland too. Weather was warm and sunny, the food and drink great. Only thing government needs to do is stop adding 20% vat to accommodation bills. We have a beautiful country, they should do all they can to help our tourist industry and encourage holidays in our own country. Thanks to the people of Whitby etc, your the salt of the earth.

    The north of england is so beautiful and underrated with the lake district, yorkshire dales, and high peak. and then with Newcastle, York, Whitby, Lancaster, Liverpool, and Manchester. It's a beautiful part of the country.

    Delighted to subscribe to your excellent channel! We're lucky to live approx 30 miles from Whitby and so, over the past 55+ years I've visited at least twice every year. Love the Gothic connection with Bram Stoker (currently listening to the audiobook of 'Something in the Blood' by David J. Skal).
    Keep up the great work and best wishes for 2021.

    Thanks for this tour of what to do in WHITBY. It is such a stunning place and right along the water which makes it extra cool! Love that you created this Travel Guide with some must do places. Really makes us want to go visit. Definitely a stunning place with the ruins and the museum. Whitby beach looks really nice too but yes, right now is too cold to go swimming! Excellent video - I agree with the key areas you suggest exploring - I thought I could add a few more to help people who visit this wonderful seaside town.
    You could have added finding the pirate graves in St Marys graveyard? if you found them of course.😂I have spent my whole live in and around the town, and return regularly - more than once per year, and spend whole weeks there when I can.
    The unique light you talk about is because the sun rises over the east pier, and sets over the west pier - and the harbour entrance points North. So while the town is on the North East coast, its beach has an interesting run, which means there is always light on the beach from dawn to dusk everyday, and it creates really unique perspectives and looks - more so if you photograph it regularly.
    It is the only place in the UK where I can order fish and chips and know the quality of what I will get. I have encountered only a small number of f&c places beyond the town in the UK which have maintained the same standard, tradition and quality - trust me they are few and far between, and happy to send you my very small list of the ones I return to beyond the Whitby borders.
    You could have made more of Justins fudge there is a whole story behind the shop, with a little research to add depth - Justin was a town legend, and sadly passed a few years back, but his apprentice kept the smaller of the two shops going, and continues the vision Justin created. Amazing place, and amazing quality chocolates.
    And my thank you for ending on Robin Hoods Bay - nothing beats walking down the Cinder Track (could be another gem to find) from Whitby to Robin Hoods Bay, and walking back along the cliff tops on the Cleveland way - It is my favourite walk in the UK. More so if you carry a few cakes and sandwiches from Bothams in Whitby.
    Enjoy the new year.

      Thank you for your comment, there's so much information in there that other viewers could find interesting so hopefully people will spot it! :)
      I don't believe we have found the pirate graves on any of our trips to Whitby! We will have to look on a future trip. I also didn't realise there was a story behind Justin's fudge shop so will have to google more about it.
      Any fish and chips recommendations are always welcome!
      I would love to do the walk from Whitby to RHB at some point. We did the (admittedly much shorter!) walk from Boggle Hole to RHB a few weeks ago, which was lovely, and stayed at the Youth Hostel at Boggle Hole. Great place to stay.
      Happy New Year!

      Enjoy finding the pirates. A fun vignette to keep you occupied in the grave yard for an hour.
      Fish and Chips - When you are in Whitby next, try getting your fish and chips in Silver Street (its where the locals go). In Kent - try The Varne near Dungeness, or Jones on Whitstable high street. In Northumberland try Neptunes at Seahouses - probably the best outside Whitby, or Brough Chippy on the A66.
      If you can handle the 13 mile round walk, The cinder track down to RHB, and back along the cliffs is epic. As an alternative and only if low tide is around the time you arrive in Ravenscar - try RHB down the cinder track to Ravenscar - visit the tea room there if open - then drop down the cliffs to the seal colony, and the follow the beach line back to RHB and come up the ramp on the beach there - thats epic. If the tidy is wrong, miss out the seals, cut through the old alum works and walk back to boggle hole and then along.
      Another area to see is Saltwick Bay - there are ship wreck pieces if you know where to look, and the tidy is kind - but be wary of where the tide is as many can get stuck and regularly do.
      Happy New Year.

    • @OurTravelPlace
      @OurTravelPlace  Před rokem +1

      I do remember another commenter recommending the Silver Street chippy and said the same thing you did. Definitely top of the fish and chips list next time we are in Whitby.
      That 13 mile walk sounds great! All those miles and the sea air...bet it would feel very rewarding. Would love to do that.
      Funny you should mention Saltwick Bay and the tide. We did attempt the walk on the trip where we filmed this video but did realise we got the tide wrong and had to make a very quick retreat 😬

    • @DS-cf1zc
      @DS-cf1zc Před rokem

      @@OurTravelPlace You wont regret Silver street - but I would love to hear your views if you do, and on the long walk too. As an idea - why not take large bothams rolls and cakes, walk to RBH, and do Silver street when you get back.
      Saltwick Bay - google tide times whitby, I use that to set my walking times. I tend to head down the West pier on to the beaches between Whitby and Saltwick bay two hours before low tide - and then walk around to Saltwick bay - steer clear of the cliffs, Ive seen huge drops when ive done this walk. But you do get to see the wreck of the concrete boat, the SS Rohilla, and if you walk right around the bay to black nab (the single pinacle at the far end of Saltwick bay) here you will find a trawler called the Admiral Von Tromp. An entire disaster on its own.

      www.flickr.com/photos/daveseargeant/48925802927/in/dateposted-public/
      I usually advise walking back along the cliff top to the Whitby Brewery for a well earned pint.
      Ignore the fossil hunters chipping away at the cliff footings - large land falls are common here, and at RHB.
      Other than that enjoy.
