  • In this video, I take a look at what as to what would be required in order to land on Io, the third-largest moon of Jupiter and fourth-largest in the solar system, and then I go over the surface features that would be interesting to see.
    Intro, outro, and many other clips in the video were made with Space Engine.
    Music:
    1. Kevin MacLeod - Martian Cowboy
    2. Kevin MacLeod - Thunder Dreams
    3. Kevin MacLeod - Ritual
    4. At the Foot of the Sphinx - Twin Musicom
    5. Huma-Huma - Nevada City

    Okay so I just realized that this video is posted, I thought that I set it on private while uploading and I wanted then to upload it again tomorrow because I wanted to fix the audio up a bit and add a part where I mention that the temperatures on the surface of Io are still between -140 to -180 Celsius (-220 to -290 Fahrenheit) despite the fact that it is extremely volcanically active because of the distance to the sun that it is at. Oh well, it's already posted now, enjoy.

    Damn, a very deadly moon! Such a shame about the immense radiation problem and obvious dangers associated with its volcanoes. It'd be really interesting to form a human outpost there for sure. I'm sure the views would be absolutely awe inspiring. 🙂

      I’d rather live on Ganymede or Callisto than live on Europa or Io. Europa has too much ice, which would be very slippery, and Io is too volcanic. But Ganymede has its own magnetic field to protect it and Callisto is the Galilean Moon of Jupiter that orbits outside of the radiation belt.

    • @robinchesterfield42
      @robinchesterfield42 Před 3 lety +9

      Well it's similar in size to our moon, so if it was swapped in I don't think much gravity/tidal difference would happen re: Earth. It would probably calm down and not be volcanic anymore! since Earth has way less tidal force than Jupiter, or at least it would have a lot less. It would probably also be less radioactive, since Io gets its radiation from Jupiter's Van Allen belts.
