HOOOO boy this project took a lot outta me but I'm so glad to have it done, I'm sorry for any style inconsistencies I worked on this over a long period of time and learned a lot as I went (lmao that's probably obvious by how the quality increases towards the end) I had the idea for this storyboard pretty much ever since I read the book, it's so wild to see my brain pictures actually real on a screen for once :''D
I'm a little disappointed I couldn't include more scenes, namely the torture scene LMAOO since it's so iconic alas the timing wouldn't have worked out. You might also notice a tiny bit of canon divergence at the end where Chuuya isn't you know, collapsed on the ground after fighting Guivre but hear me out I needed the hat moment... for the symbolism....

The parallels between Rimbaud failing to absorb Chuuya and Verlaine having to subdue him and Chuuya activating Corruption to fight Guivre and Dazai looking on with pride I CAN'T DO THIS I,m losing it
The fact that the song says (1:59) "My weakness" and Dazai is shown is an incredible detail. Love that.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it but I LOVED the subtle hint of Chuuya activating his ability when Shirase scared him--just the tiny details are ASTOUNDING. So much symbolism even if its so subtle hgasodhgoashgsh I'd talk more about how fucking AMAZING this is but I think all the people in the comments got me covered XD

Don’t know if you plan on watching the anime now, but most of the scenes in the animatic are from a side novel that hasn’t been animated! So if you decide to watch and don’t see some of this that’s why. But yeah the animatic is so amazing!!! It’s so cool how they did this with only descriptions, a few pictures, and a stage play.

Firstly let me talk about the art.
Not only is this the opposite of same face syndrome - the features on each character are so distinct and unique and oh my God I love it - but the expressions THE EXPRESSIONS. Perfectly blended realistic features and expressions with cartoonish exaggeration and emphasis. I literally FELT Chuuya's rage through the screen I'm not kidding. How Verlaine alternates between so very lively and stoic. How Adam my boy has such animated faces (mostly talking about 1:33 I simply Can Not get over those two seconds). Dazai's eyes are literally on point I love them so very much. A friend pointed out how N has the least animated expressions so the least 'humanly' face and I'm still thinking about it. Not to mention the compositions are just SO WELL PICKED???? This ties in very neatly with point two, the cinematic shots.
Literally how each scene is PERFECTLY moved; some scenes are close to fully animated, others are still shots, some have the camera moving instead, literally PERFECT (and perfectly synced with the song, too). The transitions from one scene to the other; from Chuuya & the sheep to the scene at the beginning of fifteen, the switching between the Suribachi incident and the Guivre fight. The movements on the scene with N & Chuuya & the clone. Literally so beautiful.
May I say that you chose the perfect moments for both times the lyrics go "how dare you speak of grace"? Its like obvious you're gonna do that but man I'm not over it still. Also how the line is said twice and it's by Chuuya & Verlaine and both to N I absolutely love that parallel. (**Just realized it's three times and Chuuya says it to Verlaine once but my point stands) Speaking of parallels; Chuuya & the clone lying ying yang style on the floor? Hell yeah. (Let me intervene here and say that I LOVE N's design?? Like I love it I also love how there are some similarities with Murase's design for the whole brothers symbolism (or genetics I guess LOL))
Since I brought up symbolism let me tell you I LOVE LOVE LOVE how in the sheep betrayal scene we see Shirase as human then the rest as sheep, literally the same symbolism as him being the only one with an official design and name (since Yuan was apparently named so in the anime and she was just called 'girl' in the 15 book lol). Love that. Icl I don't remember if this was mentioned in the book but I love how Verlaine's ability is blue and Chuuya's is red that's just
can i add that i love how chuuya especially in the first few scenes with the sheep actually has a somewhat childish face???? like he ACTUALLY looks like a fifteen year old???? unlike the anime where he looks like a sized down adult. love that thank you for your service 🙏

THIS IS SO UNBELIEVABLEY UNDERRATED. It has one of the most captivating storytelling I’ve ever seen… the intense expressions and the strong colors. The settings and values. It must’ve taken a lot of dedication to complete. This is so beautiful
I’ve never seen this show and heard about it only a handful of times but this is quite possibly one of the best animatics I have EVER watched. I was drawn in from the first frame all the way to the last and I’ve been watching this for about half an hour now because holy HELL the sheer emotion in this is absolutely impeccable and every little detail has so much care put into it, from the way the camera shifts depending on the intensity of the scene and the transitions and use of color and the way you translated these character designs into your own style so beautifully, I cannot comprehend the amount of talent here man.
The music choice is fabulous and the way the visuals match the feeling of the song just makes for a more cohesive experience and at the start of this video, I found myself watching the lyrics along with the art but as the animatic continued, I was so drawn into the visuals that I forgot they were even there until the end when everything calmed down. I’m seriously so attached to these characters now that I might straight up go watch the anime this second like, d u d e, this is such a genuine masterpiece, massive props to you and PHENOMENAL job, if I hadn’t just written two paragraphs about how much I love this, I’d say I was speechless in awe

I loved all the parallels, and there was one point that stuck out to me in particular: when Verlaine was looking at Chuuya through the glass and then the fade-in to his own reflection, I thought that was just-- so insanely cool!! You absolutely nailed it with this one, this is one of the best BSD animatics I've ever seen!!

THIS is insane. The song was perfect, and the way emotions were portrayed through their eyes is perfect, I love the way you painted Dazai's emotions, especially it captured his youth as for Chuuya, he's perfect, Verlaine too it's too good it's too good

Not only do I love the song, but the art is absolutely stunning. All the frames, pacing, camera movement just- *chef’s kiss*. Also those “on the side” of Chuuya accented with red just like him, Verlaine being blue, but Rimbaud yellow, showing their conflicting goals - I ADORE the use of colour here. The beast at 3:36 hhhh stunning (haven’t read stormbringer yet, so I didn’t catch some things, for example why there were so many circles)

Chuuya's emotions were so well represented throughout, I absolutely loved it and the facial expressions, just wow! The lab scene was really amazing too!
And special mention for the way Dazai is portrayed, I love it, especially when we see the reflection of Chuuya in his eyes and the way he looks at him at the end, paralleled with Rimbaud in the scene before.

That was my literal reaction to this beautiful animation. Many words to declare my love for this animation right now.
First is the character designs, this is my first time seeing your art style. I was immediately drawn to it which was WOW. Very cool and distinctive.
Now I want to direct to the fine details of this animatic. I really love the blue in Verlaine’s ability, it contrasts Chuuya’s red so good and it’s honestly a really neat and cool concept. I love the sheep’s for their symbolism, I love ESPECIALLY Murase, Guirve, and Rimbaud being in animatic. They rarely get any spotlight in such animatics like these and it makes me scream with joy.
So overall I love this animatic so much and I’ll definitely rewatch it as many times as I can.

The camera!!! Such great compositions, incredible work on the blurs and parallax (3D/depth) movements. The values and lighting too!! Your art has so much depth and volume it makes me feral I want to take an actual bite off it.
The choice of lyrics to the story beats was ✨✨✨✨✨✨oooooh the chorus!!! the broken crown line hit every single time. The storm brewing in the back behind Adam with the "there was a way out for him", every instance of "in this twilight how dare you speak of grace", I'm about to start biting for real. I'll admit that towards the end I was so entranced by the pictures I actually forgot to pay attention to the lyrics, but I came back a second time and "in this twilight our choices seal our fate" hit like a ton on BRICKS
I love your Murase and N designs. 10/10. Your Adam is always fun, I love his square irises. The use of blue for Verlaine's ability looks so good by contrast to Chuuya's red and Rimbaud's yellow (also blue moon and red sun). Shout out to the background work: perspective, composition, volumes, they all did their jobs so well.
Other details to shout out: Chuuya activating his ability because Shirase surprised him, Doc trying to mess up Albatross' aim, the dramatic buildup of Chuuya's first Arahabaki blast with Dazai looking up at him, the entire sequence of Murase being killed, the full shot of Chuuya turning on Verlaine instead of N, shaking your hand so hard on skk looking up at Verlaine self-made escape tunnel, the rain and lightning for the final night BUT the moon is visible through the clouds.
Also know that I dropped everything to go on my computer to watch this because I knew it required the Big Screen to be correctly appreciated.

I have a lot to say about this animatic, but I feel like words aren’t enough to express how amazing I thought it was. I already know that I’m not going to be able to properly word everything I want to say. (I apologize in advance for this essay of a comment…)
First of all, the way you draw all of the characters is gorgeous. Everything about your art style is gorgeous, matter of fact. The character’s expressions, the backgrounds, the way that the animatic itself is greyscale but then there’s bits of color in there. Absolutely beautiful. And the way that the animatic itself is “choppy,” for lack of a better word, but still so fluid is so pleasing to the eyes. That, and when there’s actually bits of animation in there?! Not enough words.
I haven’t watched Bungo Stray Dogs yet, but I do know bits and pieces about it. I also thought I knew so much about Stormbringer, but this video made me realize I only know about 1/3 of that lol. But the way that you set up the storyboard made everything make perfect sense to me. I don’t know if I can speak for everyone else, but it was perfect in my eyes.
You captured Chuuya’s character, (as well as the others of course), so SO well in this animatic. I’m going to go into little moments that I absolutely adore / can’t get over.
0:22 - The way that he hesitates to go into the light, aka with The Sheep.
0:58 - Again, with the hesitation between having to basically choose between The Sheep and finally doing something for himself for once is so perfect. He doesn’t want to betray his family, but he needs to know about his past.
1:12 - HOW HAPPY CHUUYA LOOKS WITH THE FLAGS. I CANNOT GET OVER HIS EXPRESSIONS WITH THEM.
1:33 - This little argument (I’m not sure who with, forgive me) and the little flash of lightning in the background?! Possibly representing the start of the storm that is Chuuya?
1:45 - Chuuya’s expressions. The red in Verlaine’s eyes and the red of Corruption standing out so much in the greyscale.
1:52 - THE LIGHT IN DAZAI’S EYES SEEING CORRUPTION. That, and the reflection of it in his eyes?? AND THE LITTLE ANIMATION TOO?? Gorgeous.
1:56 - The way that you show just how damaging Corruption is to Chuuya and his body…
2:07 - The pure terror in Chuuya’s eyes as he sees the dead bodies of his friends. That, and how only one of his eyes really moves while the other injured one doesn’t. And the way that you sprinkled in how each of The Flags died / were killed by Verlaine…brutal in the best way.
2:11 - THIS RIGHT HERE. THE WAY HIS EXPRESSION GOES FROM SHOCKED, TO NEARLY BREAKING DOWN, TO PURE RAGE. THE LIGHT FADING IN HIS EYES AND CHANGING TO THE SAME RED THAT VERLAINE HAS / HAD. THE ANIMATION IS SO. MWAH. CHEF’S KISS.
2:26 - The red for Verlaine is so AHHETJJA
2:30 - THIS TRANSITION FROM VERLAINE LOOKING BACK TO CHUUYA COMING INTO FRAME SCREAMING AT HIM.
2:39 - How emotionless N looks while showing Chuuya his clone, and how terrified Chuuya looks staring at himself.
2:46 - The look of worry for his clone before switching to his anger towards N. And then the way he turns to yell at him but then gets shot.
2:56 - This. The way that Verlaine was (I think?) trying to get Chuuya onto his side by attacking N and giving Chuuya the opportunity to kill him, just for Chuuya to attack Verlaine instead. THE LIP-SYNC TOO. The shock in both Verlaine and N’s eyes while Chuuya looks so dead inside / unaffected by what he’s just done.
3:17 - The flashback to showing that Verlaine actually cared about Chuuya, he just went about it the wrong way and mixed up love with control.
3:29 - Unfortunately I don’t know anything about this part, but the way the scene is drawn, the colors, the characters, their expressions. Everything about is so goddamn beautiful. The way that Rimbaud seems to hesitate betraying his friend by helping Chuuya? At least I think that’s what’s going on, again, I don’t know.
3:37 - AGAIN. THIS. The parallels between Rimbaud and Dazai.
3:44 - EACH FRAME OF THE DIFFERENT CHARACTERS IS SO BEAUTIFUL. I’VE SAID THAT WORD SO MANY TIMES BUT I DON’T CARE BECAUSE IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
Having said all of that, I truly hope that this video gets the attention it deserves, because it ABSOLUTELY deserves attention. No matter how much it gets, however, I hope that you yourself are proud of what you’ve created because you should be. I’m not sure how you are when it comes to your projects getting attention, but if the amount doesn’t seem like much, know that how you made the people that have watched makes up for twice of that. Don’t stop doing what you’re doing, and I know that you’re going to go so far. Thank you for blessing our eyes with this masterpiece.
