Now that we have Doku, it would be exciting if Pep can let Foden start playing as an attacking inside midfielder as a playmaker. He has everything in him to be successful at it. I am convinced that Phil Foden would be a perfect fit in that role.

There is a good reason why Pep doesn't use Foden as a central midfielder especially against big teams, it's because of his defensive deficiencies. Secondly, he is one of the best finishers and offensive players Pep has, hence the decision to play him as a wide Foward.
As a playmaker in central midfield, Phil Foden shouldn't have to put in so much work in defence. The guys Rodri, Kovacic, Phillips or whatever 2 defensive picks will take care of that. A playmaker should only serve balls forward is the idea.@@paolorossi784

With de Bruyne out its either Foden Bernardo or Grealish at 10, Foden is the most dangerous of them at 10 position.
With the speed of Doku City can now play the ball behind their opponents Defence wich will make them more dangerous for teams that are going to play a high line against City. But Doku is also great in small spaces because he has very fast acceleration.

I've been a fan of City for a long time, and since Pep came in their evolution has been extremely interesting.
Tactically we've changed a lot, and I think we're going through another renaissance. We've traded away players like Gundo, Laporte, Mahrez, for Kovacic, Gvardiol, and Doku. The efficacy of what Pep is trying to employ is not yet known, but the significance is there in the stats. We had a playmaking 8 who was extremely good at finding space and attacking the box, into a more defensive 6/8 who can carry the ball better. We had a tall and physical ball playing defender, great at making progressive passes, and arguably, we have the same thing in Gvardiol, but he is much better at making progressive carries. And we went from Mahrez, a calculating, playmaking winger, into a direct, speedy, winger who can also progress the ball extremely well.
I feel City are moving away from their old style of positional play into a somewhat new style of positional play that utilizes progressive carries to draw opposition defenses out of position, or to more effectively attack low blocks. Especially with Haaland, Foden, and Bernardo, who are extremely dangerous with the ball, having Doku and Grealish being able to draw defenses out will be a great asset to our attack.
