Such an important topic. I've literally been going through all my generals in recent weeks making this decision. Usually the new generals at 5 or 6 stars are better than the old generals we have given 10 stars, the problem is the damn runestones!
I've been thinking about it and will commonly call it: Artificial Scarcity" ATS At any given time, Any Dev (developer) & any Prog (programmer) of the game) is able to get as much copies of any given general or any given number of any given items (ae: gems, gears, etc). But for us, clients, ATS is made for us pay any given price. Taking our time and patience hostages, as we are "grinding" for futile goals. We are meant to be "grinding" for them. ATC can be easily observed from our birth, as most of women would feed their new born on ATS mode. Newborn cries sometimes for hours because of hunger. But instead, all it gets is "air". Its mom purposely refusing to feed it, as a vicious move. Just for fun to watch it struggle, just for the lulz, just for the sake of it. It can't feed itself, nor is it able to produce or to get an alternative. Stuck in an "obey", wait indefinitely and shut up" mechanism. This behavior, produces changes in the newborn biologic chemistry, while its mom enjoys its pain, as for her it's a "victory" (over a defenceless being ). Learning pain & scarcity early in life, plays also a big role in later psychological issues, mental diseases. Some adults aren't able to discard a wrong spouse, stuck. Nor are they able to feed themselves, bc hunger triggers their native survival mode, incapable to think calmly, getting easily angered, ticking off, getting enraged for no reason. Prisons are full of them: discarded. Deleting themselves, for not beeing able to find a solution, or a workaround when being suddenly abandoned (Job lost, Partner gone). This is how and why an addictive game works. If it's for you, it's not for you. 🍻🍻Cheers
Superb subject and one that in many ways also applies for 'light-mid' spenders who won't be able to get enough copies of specific generals that may be 'the best' if fully ascended but can get 'f2p' generals easily with lots of Tavern Refreshes or 'not free but not event limited' generals occasionally. You've pointed out yourself in the past about Event Duty Generals often being pointless because though they may *theoretically* outdo the f2p ones (as long as there _is_ an f2p one) in practice you'll very rarely be able to Ascend them enough to use that advantage.
I've been very lucky with general tokens from Champions. Range: I'm using Elektra fully ascended (relics) with Charles XIII as assistant (champion token), his main skill gives another +10% March Size and he's compatible with Elektra Mounted: Hannibal fully ascended (he's on alliance monthly card) with Washington Prime (champion token). Ground: Elise fully ascended (trial of knights event) with Miltades (champion token) Siege: Zucca 3 red stars (he has been available in some events i don't remember which but i've been collecting his fragments lol) and Pallas (champion token). I wish I could have more lucky with Siege generals but I would not complain at all :p

I'd still say Ulysses S. Grant is a solid free siege option. He has a huge march size of +20% and while his buffs may be low, you can use him very well for small siege marches, since you will rely a lot on the flat refines of his equipent. For big siege, yes, premium options all the way.
Nice video, I wish you have compared Trajan or Elise with the premium generals because they are the best free ground generals just like Elektra in the archers realm
Awesome video, thank you. However, the premium general tokens you get from the champions won't get you many copies of a newly released general as I've learnt. I accumulated about 30 of them and wanted to get me as much Merlin as possible. Long story short, I was bewildered I only got 4 copies of him. It's a scam guys. You'd need at least 200 of them to get 16 copies.
if you're a small or medium coiner and looking for a siege general, use edward tech, he's available in historic general event, and you can exchange 1 of his copy every event for 500 token/card, I have 7 of his copy now, just waiting till I collect 15 then I'll develope and you can pair him with gunther (if you already have him)
Worth noting: Skins. Elektra's skin, with a dragon adds 10% to ranged troop attack and 15% to ranged troop HP. The real wild card is when Evony finally implements covenants on older generals. A friend reminded me that Evony usually has 2 big updates every year, spring and fall, and in spring they updated the language on non-working covenants to them not being implemented to the general "about to unlock" the feature. Which might mean this gets implemented in fall. The FTP generals will not get upgraded to the same level as the premium generals, but a lot of older premium generals are also going to get boosts as well.
I think about this daily as I ponder who to focus on and I keep waffling. As to the Freemium, I have Poligenious and 7 copies of him. I use him with Martinus. I am considering Douglas with his skin for my main because his stats are so much higher than elektra's. My thoughts on range if they will pair is Douglas/Ragnar, I do have Agrippa but only one copy of him and he is weaker than Ragnar. Seige is a problem, I have both Zucca and Teach but only 1 copy each. Every evony new general that comes out muddies the water. Blood of Ares are my single most rare item in my inventory.
Hmm really interesting I've been stuck with a 9 star simeon the great for ages but have a merlin I could get to 7 stars could maybe pair merlin with Godfrey also that might be better than simeon 9 with merlin assistant

That's the same combination as I have. Elektra (10 stars, a dragon for a 20% attack boost, and maxed out specialties) and Merlin (with no specialties started) as her assistant. I have enough Merlin fragments to get him to two red stars. The problem I have in switching their places immediately is the specialties and getting enough runestones for Merlin.
Saw the video many times specifically for horses wich is the most important for me but i can make out he ignores horses and says something like go check godfreys notes? Where are these notes?
But Elektra's march size won't help the troops with such low Troop HP and Defense, and that is where Merlin would actually be better then her, because troops without buffs are cannon fodder
Aka | what about Mina wirh ranger as mina need a dragon in ranger skill it also needed a beast or dragon so if i put on it is that buffs come to me or not
I think it's high time Evony creates a button that populates the march preset with 1000 for each troop type.

Also can consider a one star premium will save you blood and you can put that blood on sub generals instead of attacking/defending.

I got Mu Guiying General for free through one of the Champions loyalty Chests when I completed Lv 14 😁

I used to run with Alfred at 4 stars but switched to Marcus at 1 star. Still worth it.

Fully ascended F2P generals work well when paired with a premium but unascended assistant. Or, retired for a career in the Senate. :)
As I think march size is not necessary since we have planned to star 10 elektra most of the people actually compare the buffs
