RIP pontiac forever missed
Pontiac shall always be remembered😢😢
Not including the Astec
Exactly mate, had they survived then Pontiac would've not only become GM's Mopar but also America's BMW as well.
Pontiac truly had a sad ending. While I loved the Aztek, their others are were not the coolest. The G8 was I guess, but that was about it. Seeing the Firebird gone is a hard thing to accept, and the worst part about all of it is that Pontiac's very last car was a base model fitted for commerical work. It was a G6 I believe and very shortly after it was delivered it crashed. Truly a sad ending
g8, gto, solstice
They need a revival
@@BlackonBlackE46 g8 is a rebadged Holden commodore.
@@ni9eliv3s53 how does that change anything
@@diamondjebgold9906 Aztek*
Also, I genuinely don't care what you say. Maybe you like modern supercars or 90s JDM cars and I will respect that. What I like is early 2000s crossovers and economy cars and if you can't respect others opinions you clearly are not a very good car enthusiast, let alone person
This was a sad video to watch, I knew all these car brands but had no idea about how they have declined over the years. I am glad Bugatti stays true to it's spirit, being my favourite car brand even though I'll never own one.
I mean, Bugatti used to be about light racing cars with small but powerful engines, then the 41 Royale came around and it was a huge limousine, bcs yeah, why not.
Racing was a huge part of Bugatti spirit, now the last entry for a Bugatti was the EB110 at LeMans in 1994 bcs both the Veyron and the Chiron are to heavy and not suited for racing.
@@adrianzanoli yeah, also expensive. It would be like millions everytime one is destroyed.
The car from which Lancia makes all money (not a lot) is not even a Lancia: it's an Autobianchi, a small car producer from the sixties and seventies.
The Delta (1977) was probably the first small luxury hatchback ever made and it ended as the prototype for all the modern rally cars from Europe and Japan
When Lancia built the original Thema, it might be "boring" to you but it was a revolution for the Sedan sector, which paved the way for modern 4 doors in term of space, aerodynamic and comfort. Then it tried to rebadge 10YO Chrysler 300 as "new models" and nobody cares anymore.
The G8 has nothing to do with Pontiac, it's a rebadged Holden Commodore from Australia. Speaking of a company that stayed true to their roots, for over 60 years Holden made family sedans with big V8s in them, but the cost of local production sky-rocketed and now the brand is dead.
Exactly mate, the G8 and GTO are nothing but rebadged Holdens from Australia mate.
@Grapeman Banjie yeah I think since ford had no real Australian competitor here they just cut their ties with production here. That was the end of the falcon and a few other Australian made fords
I miss Pontiac
I want them back
Old Pontiac was great
@@captaincrankshaft indeed
If our government started caring about their fellow Americans, car companies would still be making great cars to this day and not pushing these ugly crossovers nobody wants.
The Pontiacs of the 60s were the best.
@cckiller0053 Exactly mate, you can thank the evil Democrats for creating all of this mess just like they let criminals keep roaming in the streets.
wondered where mitisubishi went, subura seem to also being having some trouble aswell
and yeh jags are basically just GMs underneath, which shows in their resell value aswell
… jag used to be owned by ford then sold to tata motors
Subaru was bought by Toyota in 2011, and this is how we got the new 86.
For Jaguar's case, they did make some special limited edition cars under "project" cars.
I really want Mitsubishi and Subaru to bring back the Evo and Impreza so bad. 2022 is the 30th anniversary of the Impreza so they could do something for that. (A manual mk1 Impreza restomod hint hint)
I see lancer evos everytime and i saw a blue impreza with gold rims the other day
So do I, why do they now only make SUV's? At least that's all that is sold in the UK now anyway.
They are still making Impreza's (it's getting a new generation for 2023/24 too) but it's not what it used to be.
@@RedNazFM yeah
@@RedNazFM not being sold in the UK for some reason. It's just their SUV now over here
sad to see so many great cars get discontinued just to maximise profits
If it made money, they would keep it. You can rarely ever fund vanity projects nobody wants.
Yo captain keep it up
Thank you! Will do :)
I definitely remember pontiac for its exciting cars even at 20. I loved the G6. I actually thought it was exciting, especially my family owning one. I like the solstice, the g8, the gto. They had exciting cars. Unfortunately GM loved to parts share and Pontiacs became hard to maintain. I remember that damn 2000 grande am my dad owned and our g6 (both green btw) going in the shop almost every damn week almost (over exaggerating). But we loved them though. It was something special about them I couldn’t put my finger on it.
Unfortunately for the GTO was that it was nothing but a rebadged Holden Monaro from Australia mate unlike the original GTOs from the 1960s.
Pontiac didn't create the G8. It was Holden Australia 🇦🇺
The potato made a car????
This video was really well-made and informative... I wouldn't be surprised if this guy's really big someday
Thank you so much! Means a lot
SLOWCOLT IM SUBBED TO YOU
Pontiac went out of business 2 years after i was born, i didnt find that out until i was 10, and at that time it was and still is my favorite company, you can imagine the heartbreak and heavy emotion i felt when i learned they were no more and just how upsetting their wnding was, i feel today that wouldve made some real badass cars, but we cant experience that today…
Right
Had Pontiac survived the 2008 Recession then Pontiac would've not only become GM's Mopar but also America's BMW as well.
I remember seeing somebody do a modern "concept" car of the 1995 Sunfire-- it looked so freaking cool. Got me thinking how well a company making inexpensive torque-heavy RWD cars would do.
I still remember the Pontiac Fiero and the Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX... both great sports cars during their heydays....
Maserati has gone uphill actually. There cars used to be horribly unreliable and now there reliable and really good looking too. They always have been good looking but the new Maseratis are not going downhill at all. And jaguar? No. Just no. They are such cool cars these days. In my mind they are better looking than they ever have. You are out of your mind saying otherwise. But I agree about Pontiac. They were making suck cool cars then in 2000 they announced the Aztec and the crowd started to laugh at its ugliness. lancia is just depressing these days, same with Mitsubishi.
Honesty maserati has made good cars such as the new maserati quattroporte trofeo and mc20, and the granturismo.
I agree they aren't bad cars. Its just so far from what they used to be and for the money I would probably go with a different brand.
IMO Maserati often the one that are being overlooked because of their reliability.
@@captaincrankshaft I don’t think Maserati is trying to be Ferrari anymore. With how their lineup is stacked, it looks like they’re going after Porsche now (similar to Lotus). They have a crossover (Grecale), an SUV (Levante), a sedan (Quattroporte; the Ghibli is being axed in favor of the Quattroporte), an entry level sports car (GranTurismo), and a flagship sports car (MC20). Porsche’s lineup is very similar. They have a crossover (Macan), an SUV (Cayenne), a sedan (Panamera), an entry level sports car (718), and a flagship sports car (911). And with their return to single-seat racing (albeit in Formula E as opposed to F1), in which they’re already doing REALLY good with in the practice runs, I think Maserati is set to make a comeback, not as a Ferrari fighter, but as a Porsche/Lotus fighter
I will never forgive GM for what they did to Saab
Yeah. That was terrible we will miss you Saab
Add Holden to that list.
SAAB, Holden, Vauxhall, Isuzu, Opel - Leached every cent out of them, aquired the tech they wanted, gave them bad advice & then tossed them away when there was no money to be made from them.
@@normandunckley3926 fortunately Isuzu is still around, still building diesel SUVs and pickups, in addition to its very successful truck lines.
@@kristoffermangila more like 2 model for pasegers.
theyre truly workers brands
mux totally kick toyota and mitsubishi butss when i got to ride gen 1 here.smooth like butter like no diesel in my country ever does
albeiit its picky diet of diesel fuels tho
Funny as some of these car companies made Transformer alt modes.
Wheeljack and Exhaust transformed into lancia stratos
And quite a few turned into firebirds
It's my wish to own a Dodge viper SRT and a Dodge challenger SRT BOTH when I grow up and have that much money and also wish the car stays in its same condition like now 🏎️
Jaguar is owned by the Tata group, they are one of the largest industrialists. They have practically owned or started business in every commodity that you can imagine and Tata spends 70% of it's earning at charity. If Tata did not spend 70% of its earning in charity then they would have almost 1 trillion dollars. They have deep pockets for good and charitable trusts. Huge respect to Ratan Tata.
I know people love pontiac, but dude Saturn got done dirty.
You should have included MG. My God what have the Chinese done to it...
I never thought maserati is doing bad. They still make great cars.
Ding dong your opinion is wrong, imagine going from competing with ferrari to competing with bmw plus the mc20 is the first car in 15 years that is actually somewhat good, all their sedans and suvs were wack, shit reliability with everything
@@broshido2745 there's no "wrong" opinion, we just have a different idea on it. In my case, I liked their previews sedans and it's just my personal preference. In your case, you may not liked their sedans/SUVs. And that's perfectly okay and I appreciate your opinion. Also I do agree that they are lacking reliability and havn't made any proper supercar for years, decades.
Thats right, they are doing great
once again truly amazing and time-effecient video,
your time time-effeciency and enthusiasm is wt made me love your channel.
Almost every car brand got worse relatively recently!
Pretty much all car brands started going down hill since the 90’s and 2000’s, technically 1970’s since the oil embargo and emissions of the 70’s is what kicked it off. Today’s cars simply can’t hold a candle to most full sized cars of the 50’s 60’s and very early 70’s.
@seana8067 Exactly mate
5:00 Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad is long form commercial ad for the Aztec
@@onsokumaru4663 yep
Umm the G8 is not a Ture american car. its a Aussie Holden VE commodore/ BUT awesome video :)
I didnt even know Lancia still Exists the Stratos and the HF Integrale were amazing in Gran Turismo.
And don't forget wheeljack.
Chrysler should've been in this list! From having 2 vehicles to just being 1. From the Legendary 300 to the just as boring Pacifica, chrysler is officialy making themselves worse! And that leaves the Corporation, owning more awesome brands like Dodge, Maserati, Fiat and Jeep. Ps. I think jaguar shouldn't be on this list because they are just incredible, i have been driving my F Type V8 S and it is still going. So safe to say Chrysler can be an honorable mention or take iver Jaguar's place on this list.
Thats fair. Chrysler is a good one for this list! Lots of old American brands that are sadly gone now or just horrible :(
I think the only good modern maseratis are the quattroporte and mc20.
I agree
Uh the Pontiac G8 isn’t made by Pontiac and Same with the mid 2000s GTO. They were made by Holden here in Australia in Elizabeth South Australia. Here it is called the VE commodore. Sadly in 2017, Holden shut down local manufacturing and fully shut down in 2020 marking the end of the brand. Sadly Holden is no longer in the Australian touring car championship (Bathurst 1000)
That was 1/2 its trouble & sales killer - To petrol head, redneck PATRIOTIC Americans is wasn't a real Pontiac American Stars & stripes muscle car - yes it had american v8 blar blar - Your dealing with Americans on their home turf & their mentality. Dont matter how good the product is "if it not made USA, its shit". That nose sneer & frown from "buds" "its not american" dosnt get cred in a pretentous material society like USA ( I have a 2001 HSV GTS (Callaway), work with American servicemen passing through, when they look over, their mindset - its-not as good as Corvette, Camaro or Challenger, you cant tell them any different they dont give an f)
Exactly mate and thats what I've always tried to tell these modern GTO lovers but they don't seemed to get it though.
My guy talking about jaguar not having deep pockets, care to check their parent organization.
Jaguar still making some lovely cars , sports cars , family estate an saloons an some beautiful SUV's too , the e pace looks like a stunning suv ,that would be my pick of the jaguars 👌👍
Hey I guess now jaguar & land rover is owned by an Indian Billionaire, Ratan TATA
Jaguar probably gonna make a comeback cause it's now under new ownership 'tata' who also owns land rover which r producing some great cars now
The problem with both Jag and Land Rover, reliability. Some can be put down to having to cut the emissions ( its killing the diesel engine) . But most is cost cutting and cheap part's.
Most modern cars are best bought new then trade in before the warranty ends..
If you don't know, a pontiac was used in the movie "knight rider"
Tv show
@@alphatrion100 yup
Many cars have lost their real identities. Everyone wants to manufacture SUVs nowadays.
Without having watched I‘d say that any jdm brand fits into that category.
Great breakdown. Porsche rules!
The last good Pontiacs are the G8 (V8) AND the GTO LS2
For me its Proton. The company started by rebadging mitsubishi cars. I know, rebadged cars can get them in some controversy but most company started their way by doing it. After some time, they started to make originals like Gen•2 and Waja. They also compete in rallying and dominated the competition. Then they started to make sport car like Satria. When Geely bought Proton, there is nothing good after that, proton stopped competing in rally and started selling rebadged Geely. There is no hope for Proton to make originals.
I used to LOVE Jaguar back in the very early 2000s. The S-Type used to be stunning. Now looking at modern Jaguars and they looks like any plain old sedan
Actually just like a classic merc a old jag can be beautiful
‘They had true American muscle cars
The G8 being a ugly rebadged version of a Holden Commodore
Captain crankshaft!!! That's my stage name when rents due
Gotta keep it lubed my man i used Castrol edge tech
I still remember Pentiac because it's in the nfs 2005
Pontiac didn’t make the g8 they borrowed the design from Holden and changed some cosmetics to fit the brand. The cars real name is the Holden VE commodore
I would get the new Mirage hatchback to soup it up as a street car.
Yeah. As for Pontiac, GM has screwed them over BIG TIME.
A car company, if they do it right, can make a car thats either genuinely sporty if not a legit sports car and still have enough practicality to apeal to those of us needing a reliable daily. Just to toss out examples, I've had a 88 Dodge Shelby Lancer T2, 99 Integra GSR hatch. You get the idea.
the g8 was a holden commodore which is Aussie
So true. At 4:55 that Pontiac is a rebranded Holden Commodore. The only difference with the Pontiac model is they changed front grill to make it look more like a Pontiac.
Bro,only seen Pajero on the road
Lancia had to buy back e ey car they sold in the uk due to catasrophic rusting
GM should have discontinued Buick instead of Pontiac (yeah I know Buick is the most popular brand in China but they could have made it a China only brand and kept Pontiac as a North American only brand)
Exactly mate and that way it would've competed with Dodge easily.
I definitely think Pontiac should have been kept. They could have easily done something with it. But the government only gave them the option between one or the other.
@@baronvonjo1929 Right
Think about this if the Honda civic type r never existed there wouldn’t be any cool Honda in there line up today
What about civic del sol
Mr2
Prelude
Nsx
Maserati is still on it, they keep on doing their things as they should
True
As an Italian, Lancia was the one that hurt the most
Not even a mention of Plymouth? They went from muscle car classics to obscurity...
Firstly, Maseratis newest cars, the MC20, new Granturismo and such are incredible, and Maserati left f1 for many different reason other than just different company directions, they are technically going back into motorsport, with Formula E, but idk, you’re right about the owners, because Stellantis currently own basically all of the Italian car manufacturers and others, like Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Even Ferrari are partly owned by Fiat! Exor is Ferraris biggest shareholder, and Exor’s founder is Giovanni Agnelli, the creator of Fiat, although Fiat did own Ferrari wholely until around late 2016
You can also put Subaru on the list right next to Mitsubishi.
Subaru's still sell well. But they look more generic and boring than Toyota but without the quality
Tesla: glad thats not me-
rip pontiac while i dont have to many memories that include pontiac my grandpa owned a 60s or 70s gto and from his stroies that thing was awesome, gm shouldve thrown buick on the chopping block instead, went from making cool classics to the enclave
Jaguar being owned by Tata has more than enough money to allow them to throw caution to the wind and give us a xj-220 or xjr-15.
This sounds like some country always changes owners 😂
I don't know any good new cars, so I think every single car brand has gotten worse.
You forgot to add Plymouth in that list. This brand was good in 50s, 60s and 70s. But it became worse in 80s, and died in 00s with Pontiac.
Might have been good, IF he stuck to the title, instead of wandering about in the catalog of the manufacturers. BIG NEWS: All cars look a like, because they ALL use the same aerodynamic data.
You forgot to mention all the companies that use to produce exciting hot hatches.
4:16 is that why drift ditched his Bugatti mode for a Mercedes?
I feel extremely sad for brands like Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia and other similar Italian brands, they used to be so exciting, now it's just Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani
I agree my fav afla was the 155 dtm and the Maserati mc12
That’s a looong list to jump into buddy
The G8 isn’t even really a Pontiac it’s a rebranded Holden commodore
I'm italian and hearing DALTAE ENTEGRALEIHH (delta integrale) hurts me
It's just business.. and they notice people now are more mature and more practical.. so investing in expensive sports cars nowadays wouldn't cut it anymore..
So we not going to talk about Plymouth
dude these cars used to look so much cooler back in the day but now theirs just boring electric cars and too much-advanced technology
I think the 80s, 90s, and maybe some of the early 2000s was the peak of good automotive design. I don't love all the tech in modern cars. Sure its helpful for safety, but the connection to a mechanical machine is gone.
Cadillac 💀
Nah. Electric cars are the standard now . Old Cars always had complaints . I used to own a 2002 Honda City and it would always annoy me with constant starting trouble . And when brought to the Showroom they told that 1 of the fuse has blown off. I came back to my home and so does the problem. I again told the representatives whats up and it took 1 week for them to answer that the circuits are shorting somewhere which meant almost half the resale value worth of fixing. I sealed my deal with Kona electric . This would never happen on an electric car as they comes with advanced motor and circuit assesment so we don't have to pay an arm and wait just to check whats wrong
I’m a japan I hahah I always see Honda Toyoda and sometime mitubishi
Mazda too
Mitsubishi also makese pencils
O37... i think will be rebuild by Kimera
Dodge is going to be entering the conversation after they kill off the v8 muscle car
Man some clips are from straightpipes
You've made a mistake in credit
Volvo has turned into Vulva.
Lots of total horsecrap there. For instance Mitsubishi Motors subdivision is doing wonderfully with turnover of 14,5 BILLION dollars last year, rising almost 40% from 2020, is in partnership with Nissan who own about 30% of the company and they are going strong.
Just because they evolve with the times and sell the cars that people actually want to buy doesn't make them worse or nonexistent and if you cannot spot a mitsubishi on your streets then here's a newsflash: there are almost 8 billion people on this planet and they don't all live in your city.
Where is plymouth
My dad has a 17 year old Pontiac van
I own a GTO But right now my dad owns it
O....kay do technically you can legally use it
But not mod it
Cars have gotten worse in general. Modern steerings don't have any feel of conection, pedals don't have any weight, suspensions are way to soft and detach you from the road, and a lot of cars aren't even offered with 3 pedals! As a car guy, most modern cars are terrible!
tbh im suprised mazda not on here
5 car brands? I hope you mean 100 car brands...
Cars we have lost totally:
Mitsubishi Lan Evo
Mazda RX-7
Mitsubishi Galant VR-4
Mitsubishi Eclipse VR-4
Mazda Cosmo
Toyota Corolla AE86/AE85
Toyota Celica GT-Four
Toyota MR2
Volkswagen Cheap Golfs
Nissan Skyline GT-R
Nissan Silvia
Honda Integra
Honda Prelude
Honda S2000
1 minutue of silence for these legends that are still the dream of many, but modern companies don't make them. And another one for those who couldn't fill the boots of their ancestors.
you say its worst because you like rally and race cars and not luxury
I think with the Mitsubishi old Evo and other line up sure were good looking but on longer run they were awful. Not really built to last tat much time like what Toyota done for while. Even Honda when mentioning here has good amount cars but they sure are expensive to fix here comparison to others. (probably depends on each countries)
They kept building until the got the reputation as rally champion then the mainstream was convinced it was a rally car
Once the public was convinced, they backed down corporate spending
There is also the trend of rallying, clearly it was very popular to mainstream when f&f came out
At least you know that Mitsubishi doesn't just make cars, right? Surely that would be a big and grave mistake thinking Mitsubishi just makes cars
I mean in their defense department they made a jet fighter so good you can buy 4 F16
Thats preety awesome, you can make flight and furious 18, over the road smoke clouds into real clouds
You forgot to mention Aston Martin.
Do U really think the current lineup (DB11, DBS and Vantage) is worse than before? They're even in F1 now and enjoying some success in the WEC.
@@adrianzanoli Yes, I really miss the old Aston Martin cars. And besides, Formula One died after 2012, in my opinion. It’s just not as fun and thrilling anymore, and this is coming from someone who grew up watching F1 since the early 2000s.
@@MysticBearKnight sounds like you complain more than actually being grateful, Aston Martin still makes great cars just as they were since they formed, nothing different at all nostalgia is dangerous and you should get rid of it
@@adrianzanoli i doubt he dislikes the current lineup, 10 years from now he’ll say how Aston Martin in 2022 was so much better than the near future lineup, it’s All nostalgia that fogs up people’s minds.
@@joskjj3625 No they do not. How many Astons do you see now compared to the mid 2000s? Why do you think fewer people are buying less Aston Martin cars and moving onto other, newer brands? The prices are the same. So why is that? Speaks for itself.
