It's clear to see that Eddie, Ruff', and Paul were the nucleus of the group. Despite the fact that Otis continues to reap the benefits of their efforts, masquerading as the Temptations, with his oldies revue act!

Paul had sickle cell anemia which was why he drank to ease the pain. Eddie was a class act and talented man.
