If you think Scott is "normal" you aren't paying attention! He doubles as bass when Avi or Matt sings lead (Hallelujah, Sound of Silence) and he harmonizes with Mitch sometimes taking the high note (Superfruit duets). He has astounding range. Actually, I'm pretty sure they're all aliens.

Todrick is a genius! He is a singer, writer, musician, arranger, Broadway star, social media star, producer, director, etc. This was his project. He wrote, arranged, produced, etc, it and asked his friends, Pentatonix, to collab with him on the video. He is from the same area in Texas as Kirstie, Scott and Mitch. He was thanking them when you ended the video.

I actually consider this to be the most genius music video ever produced! Todrick grew up in the same city as Mitch, Scott & Kirstie. He was a few years older than them, but they knew each other from local musical theater and have actually collaborated on several projects together. He is a producer, director, singer, songwriter, rapper and actor who has Broadway experience and is an amazing talent. The Wizard of Oz is his all-time favorite movie and several of his projects have a Wizard of Oz theme. Scott actually has an amazing range of between five to six octaves, all the way from bass up to high tenor. Todrick, Scott and Avi all remarked at the time that this was produced that they loved working on this project because it was the first real chance that Kirstie had to take the lead throughout one of their productions...and she REALLY knocked it out of the park!! If you look closely at the closing shot, just before Kirstie-as-Dorothy clicks her heels, you can see Scott give her a little "proud big brother" glance. It's a very heartwarming moment. And yeah, I feel ya on the Kirstie as the sassy green witch thing!

That's another wholesome thing about PTX (especially the Trio) is how proud they are of each other. You can see Scott and Kirsten grin when Mitch fully belts out, their hugs are genuine, Mitch has on more than one occasion waited for Kirsten and taken her arm to walk off or on stage. And they are truly happy to give the spotlight to one another.

Oh no, Scott's range is not "normal". You need to listen to Rose Gold to hear Scott's higher register. His range is HUGE. You just haven't heard it yet. The Ariana Grande cover of Problem also had Scott going higher. He does those higher songs and also fills in bass for Avi and Matt when they do solos. He may have the largest range of them all or pretty close to it.

Or the audio track for "Hey Mama/Hit the Road Jack", or perhaps "On Our Way Home". Scott has the widest range of anyone in Pentatonix, which says quite a lot. He can't go quite as low as Avi or Matt, or as high as Mitch, but his overlap is impressive.

None of them are normal at all, they're all freaking talented aliens. Scott is highly underrated, to me he is the solid foundation for the trio of singers. He is also very versatile with his range where he can easily harmonise with mitch but also sub for avi or matt for the bass.

  • @tamarasmith9060

Todrick Hall is from the same town as the trio & a few years older, so he knew them from community theater (not the same school). He's mostly doing big musicals these days which feature his original songs, but got known through his original music put out via internet too, so you can find many of his songs/albums on his CZcams channel. He's loved (actually been obsessed with😂) the Wizard of Oz since childhood, so this entire production was his idea. He wanted to retell the story as a PTX style a cappella mashup, using mostly modern songs where snippets of the song lyrics fit that character &/or that section of the story. (Hence Scott's Scarecrow singing "I've been thinking.../do you think..." & Mitch as Tin Man singing "my heart is damaged", the lion pun you caught, etc. So yeah, the musical arrangement & the majority of the set up work (costume borrowing/making, the makeup prep, cameras, etc) was done by Todrick & his crew so that it was all ready when PTX arrived for the filming of the video.
edit: The trio also feature in one of his fantastic original songs! It's called Black & White, so you might want to check that video out too. It's one of the songs from his visual album Straight Outta Oz, but you can watch it alone if you just look up his name + the title. However if you find you want to know more about him & his rise to musical success, watching that whole album is a great way to do it. It's just over an hour long, & actually a musical autobiography sung by him & amazing other singers, with each song linked by him doing a bit of narration. There's struggle, heartbreak, & comedy all told through good music & lyrics!

🤔🤔I'm surprised that you think Scott and Kirstie are only regular range after all the videos you've reacted to.
Scott has the MOST VERSATILE range of ALL of them!! Scott is a baritone that can EASILY sing bass ((covering for Avi and Matt when either of them has a lead)) and hit AMAZING fallsettos!!
Kirstie is a mezzo soprano but easily switches to her alto when needed!!..

  • @Karen-Campos
    @Karen-Campos Před 3 lety +3

PTX retold the story in a mashup of songs, not songs from the movie, except Over the Rainbow. I cant get over how well they picked the songs! The transition from Scott to Mitch with the “do you” was brilliant! Notice too Scott, the scarecrow wanted a brain so his song said “I’m thinking about” and Mitch, the tinman wanted a heart, so his words “my heart is damaged” Then Kirstin sings “you’re lying on the cold hard ground” to Avi who is a”lion on the ground” as you mentioned was so so so well played! Kirstin dreamt of being on Broadway (which she has done now) so she was spectacular! A full production! Is there anything PTX can’t do? Nope.

He knew of Scott and Mitch & Kirstie because they all grew up near Arlington, TX, and probably were in local musical theater together. Todrick has done a lot of fun videos, including a spoof of Pentatonix, where he dresses like all 5 of them, and covers a few of their songs. It's called Pentatodrix, and it's really funny.

Todrick has a load of great work that I think gets slept on too much... He sings, raps, writes, directs, choreographs... Like everything... Has some really cool mashups, medleys, parodies and also his own original works too.
He has two great Visual Albums that play out kinda like movies and have some cool cameos and other talent involved. There's a fair variety too, although if you're specifically looking for a capella, he doesn't do that much... He did an amusing Pentatonix parody called Pentatodrix lol But yeah... Although the three of Pentatonix also feature on the deluxe version of his "Straight Outta Oz" visual album, on a track called "Black and White" I think... Not a capella though... But still a great track.
I'd like to see more react to his stuff, but if not, I still recommend checking out more of his stuff regardless. He makes great music videos and the variety is enough that there will probably be some stuff you like, even if you don't like it all.

Todrick Hall is a multi-talented artist/performer/entertainer - he sings and dances, he's a master choreographer, costumer designer and set decorator. A quick glance through the videos on his CZcams channel gives you a glimpse of his extensive repertoire. He also has a well-known and self-admitted obsession with The Wizard Of Oz (and with Disney, but that's another story). This collaboration with Pentatonix is but one small example of that. I would highly highly recommend you check out his brilliant original visual album (criminally under-rated and ignored by the Grammy folks) "Straight Outta Oz", which is his semi-autobiographical and allegorical musical re-telling of key moments in his life. It was first released on his CZcams channel in 2016 with approximately a 1 hour running time and 17 songs (though only 16 were on the official soundtrack). A year later, he replaced it with a revised deluxe edition that has 10 extra minutes and features 6 more songs on the soundtrack (including the one missing from the original album). You can read about specific details here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_Outta_Oz
I think it would be really cool if you reacted to the entire visual album. You could release footage of your reactions to 2-3 songs at a time, supplemented with additional commentary in each video.
There are lots of guest appearances: Scott, Mitch and Kirstin show up in the 4th track "Black & White". Other guests include Nicole Scherzinger on "Papi" (my favourite track - a play on the word "poppy', as in the sleep-inducing field of poppies Dorothy and her friends encounter on their way to Oz), Amber Riley, Shoshana Bean, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Tracie Thoms, Raven-Symoné, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jordin Sparks, RuPaul, Tamar Braxton and Bob The Drag Queen.

There are no normal people in PENTATONIX! Todrick does everything, song writing, singing, he is on RuPaul's Drag Race, he produces, and is an amazing talent. I saw a Documentary about Taylor Swift on Netflix and Todrick was with her in one scene. The blurb about him said he was a friend/slash collaborator. Black and White is another of his songs. It features Kirstie, Scott and Mitch. I highly recommend it. There is a lot of dancing in it.

  • @thaiseathaydesantos

Scott's range is not normal, he sings bass in many songs (the part of Hallelujah that Avi is singing the bass is him, or the whole You're a Mean One Mr Grinch) and really high, harmonizing with Mitch or Kirstin. He also is flawless technically and is known for the vocal runs. He does sound more pop then the others.
Kirstin also has a huge range, sang in Broadway and improved by the minute. She was always a good singer, but kept learning during her career in Pentatonix and her voice keeps getting richer, I don't know how much better she can get.
They are a baritone and a mezzo-soprano, those are common voice types, and they are the ones that sound more pop, which is more of a choice, but their extensions and technic are very rare.

For some good Todrick content, I suggest:
    Beauty and the Beat Boots
    4 the 90's
    Twerking in the Rain
And then his two visual albums: Straight Outta Oz and Forbidden.
(Warning tho' they're movie length and kinda hit hard)

You want to see Scott do his thing - check out I Should Tell Yo Mamma On You. He is a BEAST. A beast. Takes bass when Avi or Matt sing lead. He can do the high harmonies with Mitch. You should check out Toddrick Hall’s Black and White with Scott, Mitch and Kirstie.

Scott's range isn't remotely normal. He is basically a baritone but can sing much lower and much higher. He does the bass line when Avi or Matt have solos. The only place i know of where you can see this in the live version of Hallelujah. Watch Scott during Avi's solo and you can see what I mean.
Go back to the beginning of Sound of Silence. Scott starts that at a level that is lower than most baritones. and, as you saw here, he can go higher too. Not Mitch, Kirstin, and Kevin high but higher than most baritones.

I am afraid that I am going to have to disagree with you. I think that Scott actually has the biggest range among the group. Compare his range in Can’t hold us to his range in Sound of Silence...it is impressive. Now I will say that Scott’s voice does lend itself to many Pop type songs but I think his range is incredible.

So many comments about Pentatonix. They deserve it. Don't discount Todrick though. If you like mash ups, he has several. I'd recommend Peter Perry (Peter Pan to the songs of Katy Perry) or Cinderfella (little more political....LGBTQ equality). I don't think you'll be disappointed!

If you think Scott has a "normal" range, that just means you haven't heard him sing enough. You've heard his bass in PTX's version of The Sound Of Silence. Now you should check all his sustained high end with their cover of Ariana Grande's "Problem" czcams.com/video/4Z9b2HiW_L8/video.html He's a natural baritone so that's why you hear him most often lead off a song as a baritone or tenor.

Your comment about Scott's range is a bit off base. He not only can take over for Avi as the base when Avi is singing but can also go extremely high in his head voice. Not quite as high as Mitch but then there are not many male singers let alone female singers that can get as high as Mitch. Mitch can go somewhat low but not near as low as Scott. Kirsten has a nice high range as many female singers and can get down in a mid -range although she might be able to get lower but just has no need to do it with the rest of the group.

6:54 I don't think that was Avi lol That sounded too digitally enhanced and unnatural to be Avi. Unlike Avi's warm natural bass vocals, that sounds more like someone else (probably Todrick) singing, layered, underneath the main vocals. It doesn't sound horrible this way - in fact, I look forward to that part every time - but I DEFINITELY would've liked Avi underneath instead. Either way, I _love_ that you mentioned it, NO other reactor has thus far (that I am aware of, anyways)
