Great explanation of why a circuit must be under a load in order to create a voltage drop. A bad ground tested under no load will often appear to be a good connection (no voltage drop). A little bit of knowledge regarding Ohm's law will help in this. Given a fixed resistance, in this case the wire going to ground along with the grounding connection, the more current flow, the higher the voltage drop. Voltage drop measured = Amps x Resistance.

On a normal relay the 5th prong is for a circuit where you need power through the relay when it is not energized. Mini relays can be different, in fact some of the prongs are in different locations compared to a normal relay.

I saw another vid- 2003 Honda- he put a little pressure on the clutch and it started operating. A little too much gap for the magnet to pull. Took off a shim, to lessen the out of spec wide gap, and it operated normally.

Eric O? (SMA?) I seen similar videos but remember this car had OPEN circuit on the clutch coil (magnet).

The coil is a $90 part and it’s worth trying to replace that first. Also you may not need to pull the front end off of the car.

Will the a/c clutch spin if there’s no freon?

No. Control system will see low pressure and wont turn on the compressor.

A tad confusing since I’m wondering now if my AC clutch is bad or the entire compressor is bad instead in my 2005 Mini R52 1.6L? 🥵

I'm in the same situation with my 2005 R50, but I am replacing my clutch first because it's relatively inexpensive, whereas doing the whole compressor is a more expensive and involved job. The compressors on our car are pretty bulletproof, so I'm optimistic that the compressor is still good. Good luck!

mechanics use one of 3 services to get wiring diagrams. Pro-demand (Mitchell), Identifix or All-Data. They each have their benefits and drawbacks. A DIY'er should consider buying a hard copy repair manual that has schematics in it for his car.

Older ones like this come apart easy
