    The main reason this is a good exercise is that artists often don't know when to stop. If given unlimited time, we often feel, tweak this, tweak that... how many great paintings have we all ruined. This exercise forces us to plan, be intentional, and move along in the process. Great video, thanks!

    Cheers for this. I love oil sketches by Turner & Constable, and love the loose direct nature of those oil sketches that Constable made before starting the larger completed in the studio landscape paintings.

    I really like you've emphasized that beautiful subtle rim light in the background. You also managed to capture the pretty morning haze and atmospheric perspective in a lovely impressionistic interpretation. Quite an accomplishment in such a short time. Thanks for encourage us to give this exercise a go, And - by the way - it's always cool to meet another Anna who loves creating art! ❤🙏❤👍👍👍👌💪

    When speed, and looseness, with a painting are a priority, a larger brush speeds up the time. I find a large filbert brush works best. With a large filbert you have a large flat surface on two sides, along with a narrow knife edge along the other two edges.

  • @incognito3620
    @incognito3620 Před 3 měsíci +1

    You have a wonderful grasp of color and value. A welcome disciple for good values which are more important than the color choices.
    I don’t get the “warm white “ concept. It is titanium and ( cad) yellow. Which you have on your pallet.
    Your confidence and execution are very confident and a delight to watch. And a lesson to viewers.

    Viewers should also notice your “ testing” color choices by dabbing. Good idea.
    Also not being faithful to the original image. Good videos. The best “ demo” videos I have seen on the internet.
    Your painting is much cooler while the image is much warmer. Just as valid.

    I can't tell you enough how much I loved and needed this video! Thank you! Beautifully done. I'm two years into my painting journey and spend too much time on details. Regarding your linen panel, did you do anything to prepare it beyond the way it arrived from the manufacturer? Newer painters often don't have the cash flow yet for painting quick studies every day on high-quality materials -- do you have a recommendation for an economical support that won't frustrate a newbie's efforts?

    • @AnnaRoseBain

    I loved Bob Ross! He was truly great at what he did. But I'm an old-timer, Bob keeps getting credit for fast painting when in fact, he had a predecessor named William Alexander. He was the first one I watched, before a lot of you were born, on PBS creating 30 minute paintings.

    I don't understand how to paint like this, thick and juicy in some areas, without worrying about all the glare. Should we just not care about glare?

    • @AnnaRoseBain
      @AnnaRoseBain  Před 3 měsíci +1

      The secret to knocking down glare: come back the very next day while the paint is still wet but has started to set. Take a clean VERY soft sable brush and with hardly any pressure at all, brush it gently across your painting to reduce ridges and specular highlights.
