Is the Fang Dong by PROAR any good? I think so. I compare the Fang Dong by PROAR to the Shure KSM 27

  • It's been a long year, full of challenges and some triumphs . . . Regardless it has left me both exhausted and eager to get back to creating videos. I've been wanting to make this video for months, but just could not seem to finish. Here it is a simple introduction to the Fang Dong by PROAR.

DAMN YOU GOT SUCH A RADIO FRIENDLY VOICE! I think you could be talking through two cups a a string and it would sound so good. I do slightly prefer the Proar though because it focused your voice a bit compared the Shure without losing any bass which is damn impressive!

Thank You Sir! Much Appreciated - Thanks for watching and commenting . . . I like others are on the eternal search for the mic that we like. The irony of course is that no one really knows how their voice sounds to others, so I really do appreciated the feedback. I do some side gigs on Fiverr and other places, but I really don't want another job - maybe when I retire . . .

Thanks for watching and commenting. Getting them on sale is key! I may record a fifine k699d comparison to the re320; I have nothing to add to other good reviews except for a different voice - peace

Holy Austrian Audio OC16/18 clone. (at a way less price) Nice to see a new video! ProAR sounds like it might have a little less bottom or just a touch more than the 27 in the way upper mid?

Thanks so much for watching and commenting - mic reviews are not really my thing, but I wanted to get this out. I'm not sure my delivery was the same on both mics over all four takes? I really do want to do a capsule swap to see the difference in sound and test the circuit . . . peace

Another reply - my first is below . . . I didn't try very hard to make them sound the same, I did not do any critical listening to make sure that placement and distance captured my voice in the most pleasant way. I was also NOT in a booth. Next time I will try to use each mic to its fullest potential so a better comparison could be had - my bad.

@@redcabinacoustic-official no apology needed. Off the cuff kind of reviews (to me) are more telling than someone going full science on it. When you TRY to make things even... thats when things get weird. When you're not thinking about it and using the mic as a tool, its real. Not like you were out doors with a bunch of background noise and other things going on. Vocals are the hardest thing to compare as there's ALWAYS going to be little nuances that separate any performance. I have one coming up this week with 4 mics a singer and piano. No way thats going to be A:A or B:B. It's real! You do you man, keep rockin it! Lookin forward to the next video!

Is this just a rebeanded Bai Fei Li v10?

    • @redcabinacoustic-official

Thanks for watching and commenting - I think they probably come/came out of the same factory, but I don't know which came first or if either mic is the original? If you know or find out let me know. I heard of the Fang Dong before I heard of BFL, but that is not proof on anything. There also seems to be some variations on these mics being sold, OR the specs are wrong or are intentionally misleading, peace

Yeah. Same mic as the BaiFeiLi V10. There's more said about those but That's the parent company for them and their 414 is the same like as the BFL C414. The list price is ridiculous though. Not that it doesn't sound good for that price too. But that's just not the going rate

Thanks for watching and commenting. I thought it was interesting, and not terrible for the cost. I hope to use it more soon to really see how good or bad it is. I picked up the 414 and the V6, I should compare all 3 maybe? peace

@@redcabinacoustic-official sounds good. I'm not entirely sure if BaiFeiLi actually puts together all the mics sold by the parent company though.... Hopefully because the BFL one son sound like typical cheap Chinese mics at all. Seems like they care about audio and take their cues from Western sensibilities... As far as frequency balance... Unavoid using parts through inadequate enough to negatively impact the sound.... Not saying that he's top grade components! The BaiFeiLi 414 legitimately sounds like a $400 microphone to me though. About to check out the V5. Which is part of the pro series. Microphone assassin loves them and thinks they're a pro mic, at least for voiceovers

@@redcabinacoustic-official I am going to keep using my $1,200 tube Mic A lot though... But BFL Mics are cool. And at least the proAR 414 is definitely made by BFL. Even though this one is black in the video... It's probably the V10. With Chinese stuff though you never know if someone just used a part and put subpar components and are trying to sell it as a knockoff of a knockoff! I do trust BFL to make pretty good mics though

@@redcabinacoustic-official My two favorite mics for $500 or under are the Roswell mini K67x (The one with the transformer) and the SE electronics SE4400 (not the 4400a). Those are two mics that hit well above the price point. I love the transformer sound especially on the Roswell

@@ramspencer5492 - Which tube do you use and what for? Not prying, but always trying to learn. I have some cheap tubes, my best being the RØDE NTK. Cheap mics are definitely a crap shoot. The tolerances on cheap components in cheap mics make consistency a problem. If you've watched my videos you can see I'm not really selling anything; just sharing my experience. I decided to make this, and plan to make a few others, just so folks can hear/experience a different voice on them.
