  • amzn.to/3Ux2RzV The VEVOR SC240M handheld thermal camera is an excellent representation of this technology. A solid case with a high resolution camera loaded with features and options. With onboard LED lighting, a 2 megapixel visible camera, and a very fast refreshing thermal imager, what's not to like. Add an 11 hour battery, USB-C charging, an IP54 rating and that should close the deal.

    The refresh rate on this one is 10x better then the $1800 snap-on this is a great camera for thr money great review I certainly love mine very pleased with it!!

      Absolutely correct CP. A slow refresh rate is a near deal killer because it's hard enough sometimes to tell exactly what is in the image, but add a delay between target and what's on the camera screen and it is downright dysfunctional.

    I have the FLIR TG165-X which is priced about the same. This Vevor looks a bit clearer and with a faster refresh. I checked the Amazon link and they are showing something around 200x100(it was higher than that) IR resolution for it. My FLIR is only like 80x60 IR resolution.
    That picture in picture is a nice addition, too.

    My Emisar D4 flashlight doesn’t need one of these to see fake flames coming out of it. In turbo mode, it’s hot enough to actually start fires.
    (Careful how you hold it - I got a blister on my finger from touching the end.)

    I expected to see picture comparison to what Klein camera can show. Can you do another review where you compare different cameras you have how they look like next to each other?

    You should review the Flir one edge pro that just came out. Works on IOS and Android. You don’t even need to plug it into your phone. Looks really cool!

    Is this discontinued? It's nowhere to be found on their website and unavailable on amazon.

    Hahahaha! Dog taking a piss in the darkness. You sir are a genius. Every man watching this immediately approved of that testing method. :)
    Dogs can see in the dark. They have that reflective material on their retina to collect light.

    Very good review, this is a great tool for the money. I have the uni-t ut 256b which has the same good refresh rate. At work I use another one, the bosch gtc 600 c with Wi-Fi and it has audio tags saved with the images. But it is limited to 9 Hz refresh rate. I don't know why in the EU they are limited to 9 Hz. The Uni-t one was ordered from China and arrived in 5 months.

      It's a US thing to stop exports to China (and other countries) of military grade thermal imagers. Look up ITAR if you're interested.
      So instead we buy them from China.
      It's possible to buy higher refresh rate cameras but you're supposed to jump through some hoops.
      Edit: and yes, I know that a load of Russian tanks have French thermal sights in them. Something about the limits in military hardware exports not applying to the military.

    I’ve seen people use these for home repair and stuff like that. I’m curious if this would be a good tool for aiding in finding parasitic draws in automotive. As an A level tech at a dealership with over 10 years under my belt, I’m the one they give all the electrical issues to. I feel like this would be a great tool to point someone in the right direction for this diagnostic. Nothing worse than taking apart stuff you didn’t need to.

    • @lastbesttool
      @lastbesttool  Před rokem +1

      If the parasitic draw generated heat, then yes. But a slow leak would likely not create enough of a temperature gradient to count on this as a productive testing method.

    • @StraubelFilms
      @StraubelFilms Před rokem +1

      @@lastbesttool not that most components get overly warm but I imagine if the rest of the vehicle is relatively cool that a component drawing would be warm enough to show a difference? Then again it might only be a couple degrees warmer. Hard to say.

      @@StraubelFilms to create a greater temperature gradient for slow leaks, try leave the car overnight to reach ambient temperature and then check for parasitic draw components first thing early morning.

    Very nice. I tried the phone FLIR units and it worked for some quick work, but it lacked battery and resolution greatly. I have the Klein on my list of dream tools, but this thing might replace it, if the price is right.
