“The indigenous population were never asked” what the last 50 years worth of stupidity of politicians has done to this once proud mighty nation is beyond belief

    • @sandpiper9288
      @sandpiper9288 Před 9 měsíci

Most of them are stupid and don't understand the consequence of what they were part of. But I think a fair number knew exactly what the problem is, but did it anyway because they are corrupt, cowards, and traitors to the public and their position.
I've had sympathy for the public because their entire view of the world is created by BBC and ITV. That explains why they think things are changing so quickly nowadays and it's hard to keep up with all the craziness.
But when I think about this speech and the date of it... I feel annoyed at the public too. This speech was not a vague warning, this was a career ending rant. He was on the verge of shouting, almost through the entire 23 minutes! It's a very bold and aggressively stated rant, personal, and then with evidence and predictions, and then a story from one of his own constituents. So to me it's less of a warning and more of a last resort. He had already seen the problems for decades, even by this point in 1968. He is referring to changes that occurred in the 1930s. So this had been 30+ years of experience for him, and this was his last stand.
To think this happened 60 years ago, it makes it hard for me to find sympathy with the public and their slow grasp of the changes all around them. But I also understand that what gets called woke now is something that's been brewing for a century at least.

Enoch was labeled a racist yet he was against Nazism/fascism and helped some German-Jews become British citizens. He wasnt "anti-immigration." He was against unchecked mass immigration and only wanted small-scale immigration that was selevtive and he felt ethnic Brits should make up a large majority of the population in their own country. I dont find that racist. In fact, I bet if you took a poll in every coubtry in the world you would find that a majority of people think their ethnicity should remain a large majority in their own country and would be against mass immigration.

@@24zelock Devils advocate for a more balanced approach... A nation who has carved the way for the technological, societal, health, architectural (the list goes on) advancements that benefit every one of us in todays modern society.
People are short sighted to think the whole story is defined by that of the bloodshed. A lot of the countries gone under occuptation were by the way, if not already killing each other in endless civil wars, were at the mercy of other nations such as the Portuguese (I know who I'd prefer). I suppose those nations should have been left with no law system, rely on homeopathic conjuring health remedies, stuck with their primordial educational systems. That isn't denying wrongs have been committed, but it, like any other part of history, is a multi faceted story, with lots of angles.
With any positive there is a negative. But I am sick of the demonization toward people for loving their own country and its history, sometimes even by immigrants who it offered a hand to eat from.
Im very proud of many aspects of British History like the OP. We are in many ways, the forebearers of modern society as we know it. Only to be summarised as a criminal nation, what a pitiful observation.

I love people, i appreciate and repeat other ethnicities, cultures and the differences between us all..

Everyone should be proud of who they are, where they come from etc..
Except us here, the native population of the UK!!..
It's virtuous to champion, encourage, help or protect all these ppl of different races, cultures or life choices..
They get every benefit, as much help as possible, and it's seen the right thing to do..
      But.......
      ..................
Why is our country and it's native population and people not to be protected!??..
As Enoch explains, small inflow of new ppl to a nation is more than acceptable, they are assimilated etc..

His language may appear harsh nowadays but it was relatively normal back then. When migrants began to expect special treatment it was recognised by Enoch as the start of a steep slope downward into what we have today. Agitators and campaigners who march on to their own demise. @@darrengrimmer8541 Ironically the population of the time were very probably largely in agreement with Powell. Certainly people over 35/40
Thing is a lot of the folk on here singing Powell's praises now, were those who at the time did largely ignore and even pillory him, ie the then still young boomers. The older folk of his day, especially his contemporaries, largely regardless of social status and wider politics etc were I figure mostly in tune with his message. But it was for most folk just not a make or break voting issue.
One of the most amazing things you learn if you actually listen to the speech (how many singing it's praises on here have actually listened to all of it?) is that effectively ending immigration and indeed also a funded voluntary repatriation scheme appear to have been official Tory Party policy when he made the speech.
But this serves only to demonstrate that for more than 50 years the Tories have repeatedly talked tough on immigration and essentially done nothing but talk.
Why? Mostly because it was never truly an issue that would win or loose a Westminster election. Add in that the whole UK voting system says you can promise the moon on a raft of things then deliver nothing on most of them and folk will still vote you back into power.
The now old post war baby boomers are the important demographic who ignored Powell at the time.
They are also the ones who consistently didn't vote for folk who actually might have done something about Immigration for next 4 to 5 decades. They are as well the generation who started the birth rate decline.
It's a bit rich now hailing Powell, nearly 60 years after he made, what at the time wasn't really a speech that was very much out of step with the majority of the British public.
The time to act if there was a time was then.
The problem was the issue was not high profile enough for enough folk for any mainstream Parties to actually do more than talk tuff. And the Electoral system prevented the more committed from gaining any traction, even at local levels.

Integration failed. Some immigrants love and respect the opportunities that the UK has provided them, but most seem to not care in the slightest and their actions and behaviour shows that. I moved to London a few years ago, and it’s a mess.

"When she refused, she was abused and afraid she wouldve been attacked".
As an American one thing ive always liked about the british is they dont mix words. We use so many words interchangeably that their meanings become lost or synonymous with other words either because people want to downplay what theyre describing or dramaticize it skewing the words interpretation. When someones going about their business and is set upon by someone begging for money and begins getting belligerent and insulting people have been essentially conditioned to tolerate it as if its normal acceptable behavior. If people now a days identify that behavior using a word it would just be called "bothering" as opposed to what it should be called which is "abuse"
