You’re NOT losing your independence by having your parents help! First off, your parents love when you “need” them. Trust me as a mother. Second, one day they won’t be here to help them. So spend as much time with them and have them help you as much as possible!!!!! ❤️❤️

    Tara,
    - Here's my perspective as someone who was 25 once and comes from the same geographical area (Niagara County, NY).
    - My Dad passed away when I was 22 and finishing university. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss having him around. Having your family around in the same city isn't losing your independence, it's gaining a valuable support system. I now live next door to my childhood home and my mother. Separate but close. I can keep an eye on her as she ages and she has been able to watch her granddaughter grow.
    - You seem happier since you've come home. Life it to short to not to spend as much of it as you can being happy.

My father passed away while I was finishing up school, as well, and we were able to lay him to rest in CA, where I could thankfully visit him as often as I can! It is my dream to live next door to my mom, like you are doing, because she is currently living alone on the other coast. I wish the best for you and your mother🙏

from what I can tell, you are becoming MORE independent while being in Canada. It takes a certain amount of emotional maturity and independence to make a hugeee move like this! not only that, but it takes a lot of independence to feel confident living on your own in a city you haven't lived in since you were a teenager! dont sell yourself short💕 you're doing amazing!

  • @TheRobynMCL

So here’s my thoughts about your independence.
I’m 36 and a mom of a 12 y/o. When I was in labour I didn’t want the epidural, and the nurses told me something that I’ve kept with me this entire time and applied it to other parts of my life.... “Don’t be a hero, take the epidural”. The point being, yes I’m a very strong very independent person and always have been. However, don’t make your life harder for no reason just to “be the strong one”.

    • @luvdisneyworld
      @luvdisneyworld Před 3 lety +2

As a parent, I can assure you our worst nightmare is our children never needing us once they’ve grown up. There is a huge difference between asking for advice or help doing DIY and being dependent - you can live alone, you just don’t want to and that is the perfect balance. Xx

Wow I wished my parents felt this way. I'm extremely independent because I had to be from a young age. I'm 28 now. My mother doesn't care to help or just doesn't want to & my father isn't around. I think anyone should take the help they get! It's hard trying to do so many things alone at once honestly. It's nice seeing a different perspective from a parent ❤

I was fully independent until I became disabled following a stroke after giving birth to my second born. I was the main breadwinner and moving in with my family was a shock to my system. But my mom sat me down and said, “this house will always be yours, and I will always be your mom no matter how old and independent you are. The things I do for you is not because I don’t think you can do it, it’s because I want to be useful in your life and doing it makes me feel a part of it. I am your mom and will always want you to come to me for anything”

I haven't finished the video but I just wanted to say: IT'S OK to feel overwhelmed and everything you're feeling is 1000% valid, you're not losing your independence, you're not going backwards, I honest to god think all of the choices you have made these past few months have been so fucking realistic and responsible and really taking a step back and thinking about your future and making choices towards building your possible future life. Like most people don't do this, they just go along with life until eventually they realize 10 years passed by them... And that scares me way more than making conscious decisions and testing the ground like you are. So honestly Tara you're doing GREAT and you're making very logical intelligent decisions and taking advantage of your possibilities so YAY ❤️.

He loved to help me out at home improvement. Literally. It's so sad I can not ask him for advice now and work together with him. Tara, none of this means you're losing your independence, honey. You are the age you are, with TWO homes, + an amazing career! I don't know many people who can say that. There's nothing parents enjoy more, especially fathers, than helping their children + feeling needed. That is a HUGE gift to THEM, + an absolute help for you. A true gift for both. And quality time spent together as well...heaven. You sweet Dad is the same one that said he'd cry if you moved back home. He LOVES spending every moment he can with you. No matter what you're doing + no matter how short the time may be. Let them help. Just because you CAN do everything on your own, does not mean you SHOULD. =) We all know how self sufficient + capable you are. Never worry about that. Spend + enjoy EVERY moment with those you love. None of us are promised tomorrow + NEVER have any regrets. I left my only home in LA too, to follow my parents to Texas. They live 15 minutes away from me + I wouldn't have it any other way. Do I miss LA sometimes? Of course. But I would miss them more + I need to be a phone call away, not a plane ride. We can always go back + visit, but "home" is where you belong. Hope this helps your heart a little bit. You are winning at life + everyone is so proud of you! Huge hugs from this California girl, now living in Texas. =) xo

I lost my dad 1.5 years old ago. It was very sudden out of no where. It really changes the way you look at life and what’s important. There’s so many times I go to pick up my phone to call my dad to ask his advice or his opinion and it’s just not an option. I wish I would have done it more while I still could have. Having your dad come help isn’t taking away your independence. It’s not struggling unnecessarily. You could put that together by yourself but why struggle if you don’t need to. To prove a point your independent? Who are you trying to prove it to? I completely understand what you mean but 1. It’s someone helping you because they can. 2. When that option is gone you will wish you took it up a lot more while you could. I’m not just saying your dad I’m it’s everyone who important to you. You got to go have the time of your life in la don’t ever regret it but maybe now your priorities have just shifted. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think it’s great that you are spending time with your family. If I had a close family unit to hang out with and do small things together, I would. That’s what family is for. Doing fun things together is great, but also doing nothing together and enjoying each other’s company is another level of your relationship. Your independence is you owning a house, having a great job, your own company, moving across country on your own as a teenager! You’re as independent as one can be. Spend time with your family and enjoy the little things together while you have them. All the rude comments are people just bitter that they don’t have the same 🤍

I think the people who asked why you didn’t build the furniture by yourself, should just shut up honestly. There is nothing better than having your parents and family help you with stuff, and it’s your family I highly doubt they wouldn’t want to help. My parents love when I ask for help and they never say no when I ask for help even though they could and they even offer to help without me even asking. I’m sure your parents are thrilled you’re back and helping you out just makes them apart of your daily life that they have missed out on when you were in LA. Don’t listen to anyone that says otherwise, you do whatever is easiest for you❤️
You said it perfectly at the end. Your parents helping you out does not make you lose independence. Independence is not about building things by yourself and not asking for help if you need it, like it seems so many people believe.

I just want to say for those viewing from other places, that LA is very much a "normal" city too - with natives, and generations of families, and people that grow old here. I think what happens with a lot of people that move here chasing a dream is that they get caught up in that "media/capitalistic" scene that can be very superficial and not satisfying in the long-run. No hate, just an observation that I've made in people that eventually chose to leave back home.

Independence is not never needing help... it’s the ability to make decisions for yourself based on your own ideas. Your family showing you love and sharing these experiences with you is exactly why you moved out there. You’ve had years of doing everything on your own. Enjoy your time reconnecting with your family, whether it’s dinner, building furniture, or however helps you feel loved.

You’re NOT losing your independence at all! You’re finally able to have your parents be there and help you with ‘little things you could do yourself’ but that’s what’s so great about it. You’re spending time with them and making memories with them even if it’s just them coming over to help you figure out how to ship a rug back!! Don’t let anyone tell you you’re losing your independence because you’re spending time with your family. I love you!

It takes a lot of courage for people that are strongly independent to ask for such help and hey lets face it your parents secretly love it so let them have it you make them feel wanted and loved.

Your parents seem like they love being needed still which is a blessing for both of you. You’re not living off of them, you’re not using them, you’re not expecting a handout from them, and you’re not going over there every waking second, get out of your head! You’re doing amazing! In ten years , will it matter that you had your parents help you do things or will you just be like "I am happy to have had those memories with them." ? I have lost a parent and a brother and let me tell you, if I could have them come over to help me put in a lightbulb I would. Enjoy these moments and realize that independence isn't about the help you recieve but possibly about the help you are able to give.
