You also neglected to mention the British colony of Nova Scotia which was established by conquest in 1710 and ceded by France to the British in 1713. The English crown, via Scotland, had established a successful colony in Nova Scotia in the late 1620s but returned control to France in the 1630s.
Also, no mention of the British colony of Newfoundland.

Wait a minute so the narrator said spices were species and then called the original New York name New Netherland instead of New Amsterdam? I'm more than halfway through this video and although those are kind of minor problems I can't get them out of my head. Was it New Amsterdam or New Netherland? I mean spicies and species I figured was just a really obvious mistake that was I just left in there uncorrected but now I'm curious what was New York's original name?
Okay I looked it up and it does make sense New Netherland was the general Dutch colony but New Amsterdam was the current city of Manhattan or New York New York. This makes sense since the Netherlands is well a country and Amsterdam is City. So you have New York State and then you have New York the city. I think the confusion is from the fact that I had never heard of New Netherland. I had heard of New Amsterdam many many times and even in pop culture but it just seems like an automation to have never heard of New Netherland even in like high School Middle School or college. Actually now that I think about it Dutch colonization of what later became the United States of America was mostly glossed over. Quite literally the entire Dutch colonization of the Americas was summed up in like a couple of sentences and then basically took up a question or two on a test. So in retrospect doesn't seem that odd that such a detail would have been missing.

You should have talked more about other empires that colonized america, like nederland, russia and particularly portugal since they together with spain were the first to colonize america. I understand that spain, france and the uk are the most famous countries to do it but you can’t forget that portugal colonized half of south america and that they and nederland were as strong empires as uk, spain and france back then. It's funny that you give your input about who colonize what, but its not important to you to mention how those who were colonized feel. This is why the Bible prophesy reveals that those who have stolen land, killed, raped, all in the name of greed (Edom) it will happen to them to the point that they will beg God for forgiveness as the tribes of israel take their rightful ownership (African Americans, Hispanics, native Americans, and more. As an European, i think we were probably wrong (France, England, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, etc) to begin the colonization processes, Europe was always dipped in massive wars and conflicts since it's birth.
When we went into those countries we just spread our ways of waging war and hatred(mentality) into the indigenous people there (not saying they did not do horrible things to each other as well before us, it's just we took it into an industrial level).
Even new diseases we spread on to them which caused a lot of death from it, now with their "purity" taken, mixed with our ways and various ethnicities, we left them at a complete wreckage, i just wonder how the world would had evolved into today if our ancestors did not engage in such ways. (Like we could had just go there to trade the natural resources they and us all needed back then, instead of going into the killings and raping in the process).
Just some food for thought, not to start any stupid racism here, just thinking onto an alternative timeline.

And they barely knew what was beyond their borders. So that "nothing was discovered because there were already natives living there" is a cheap indigenist absurdity.
In addition, the term discovery is applied in that a New World (America) was discovered to the Old World (Eurasia and Africa) and vice versa. It was a mutual discovery and cultural exchange never seen before.

I was hoping you'd mention how the English settled their colonies vice the rest of the Europeans; with whole families settling rather than mostly men looking for fortune. This is why the English/British had 2 million settlers in the 13 colonies while France had only 25,000 or so by 1760, when they lost to the superior British numbers. Much of Latin America is partially Native Americans due to Spanish men taking Indian wives rather than an influx of Spanish women. Portugal settled Brazil more like the English did, but had many African slaves, as did the Carribean.

@@GabrielAlves-ce2oy From Wikipedia: The French were eager to explore North America but New France remained largely unpopulated. Due to the lack of women, intermarriages between French and Indians were frequent, giving rise to the Métis people. Relations between the French and Indians were usually peaceful. Louis XIV also tried to increase the population by sending approximately 800 young women nicknamed the "King's Daughters". However, the low density of the population in New France remained a very persistent problem. At the beginning of the French and Indian War (1754-1763), the British population in North America outnumbered the French 20 to 1.

Dude, we already know that there were Indigenous people. But let's be real, the Europeans were the main people who established the new world. Without them, there wouldn't be what we know as the North and South America.

The Old World (Europe and Asia) didn't know the New World (the Americas) existed. It's new to them; that's what it meant by discovered. What would you call it if Native Americans came across Europe, as you stated? Or do you just want to whine about something?

Fun Fact: Columbus was NOT Italian (Genoese) as is commonly misconceived. He was actually a Portuguese Jew working as an agent for the King of Portugal.

@@oohweeoohwee9222 simple. The Portuguese would get Spain to finance the expedition to confirm the existence of the new lands rather than the Portuguese risking their own money, then Portugal would come in afterwards and claim their share. That's exactly what happened. Portugal got their share - Brazil - with the subsequent Treaty of Tordesillas.
