- I got impatient waiting for the studio version of Genesis to come out so I decided to make my own.
Covered to the best of my ear and my sanity. Not meant to represent a fully, 100% accurate, stay-up-all-night-crying-cuz-the-vibrato-wasn't-right type of recreation. Just for fun!

Reflection:
The process of recording, mixing, and mastering this song took about under a month, working on the project on and off whenever I had time. The first part of the process, recording, was done over a couple days, when Polyphia had just started playing the song live.
As new videos of their performances came out, some parts became clearer or easier to listen to, and some of these parts will be inaccurate in this recording. Whatever parts or phrases I couldn't discern I just let myself do my own interpretation of it. I decided to move on after the recording phase as to not mull over details as newer videos of their performances came out.
I mainly stuck to one reference video, as well as one with Brasstracks performing alongside them. I used these for my main reference point for recording the instrumentation.
There are a couple things I am not satisfied with overall in this recording, but in the end I decided it was best to move on after each phase was done so it didn't sit in my hard drive unreleased forever. Drummers, sorry, I don't have a space to record drums so I just stuck with VSTs. Drawing in the midi for the horns especially was pretty grating. It was VERY difficult to get them to sound right and to sit well with the rest of the instrumentation. Don't get me started on the Multivoicer, either. I was running upwards of like 3-4 instances of Nectar and the Tim Archetype to blend them together for different sections of the song. If you want more details on that, just ask me.
All in all, I'm glad to have finished this project. I had a lot of fun and hope you guys enjoy the recording as much as I did working on it. Hopefully its listenable enough! - Hudba

Man, having now listened to the released Genesis, holy fuck. I'm just floored by how good your version is. It could easily pass for the actual release no joke. I might even like it just a bit more than the original. Just can't give you enough props for your rendition!

literally this one feels so much...more? the other one is alot darker and sounds kinda thin, like the brass kinda falls flat. its the weakest link imo from the whole album. not to say it sucks. but bro managed to make a better version before even hearing the real version

This one definitely has a much "fuller" sound, the brass really pops in comparison, which is definitely a preference thing, but i do like both at the end of the day

I listened to the original track and this track side by side. This track is more bassy, the guitars have a more crunchy(?) lead tone, and the brass is more full.
The cover sounds like something that'd be in the New Levels Nee Devils album. The original is, well, original to their new softer sound.

Hey man this is phenomenal. I have Nectar and Archetype Tim Henson but I am a novice with both, would you mind explaining how you used them to blend the vocoding? I'd really like to use the sound for a project I'm working on thanks
Both plugins take a lot of tweaking to sound right and most of the sound you hear in the song is some form of blending of the main voice from one plugin and the harmony of another. what i usually like doing is using nectar for the harmony and soloing the voices so i can manipulate them from there, and then layer the main voice from say plini or tim archetype so i can do additional tweaks. i usually use the tim archetype for lighter and subtle layers where the multivoice sound isnt the focus. but yeah putting a distorted signal through nectar gives a really dope "fuzzy" harmony sound, and its blended to taste with thw original signal to give a nice wash of sound. i dunno if i explained that correctly i might just need to make a video on it if it doesnt make sense and if people want to see that

Did you use midi for the harmonizer (be it Archetype or Nectar) for the beginning and end guitars? Can't really wrap my head around that tone. Would love if you could break it down.
Intro is nectar. outro is a blend of both plugins; Tim archetype layered over nectar voices soloed with the original signal running through plini archetype for the main voice.
Also there’s an Omnisphere patch running the same chords with an automation that follows the vibrato of the lead so it mimics the “slippery-ness” of the multivoicer sound. I’m pretty sure it’s just the literal first patch of omnisphere with a filter over it
So yeah just a lot of layers to get that specific multivoicer sound I’m looking for, basically going overboard on the harmony for a “wall of sound” type of thingy

Yeah I was contemplating that, decided to stick with a wetter and more downtuned drum sound to make it easier for mixing. Overall the mix has a kind of roomy-ness that I dunno if I like or not but it is what it is
