A few comments from visitors who have seen this exhibit that were disappointed that it was not an operating layout. There are two reason for this: (1) Foremost, the time a layout was requested, just 5 weeks before it was to be opened to the public, long with the duration of the temporary layout (had to be in place for the Christmas season) did not allow sufficient time to electrify it and to have enough additional help to maintain the operation/maintenance for each day the layout would have visitors. (2) The physical size of the room (23 feet wide) would not allow the diorama (20 feet wide) to have sufficient space to allow the track to have two complete turnarounds in both ends of the exhibit necessary for running operations. It is true that an operating layout has much more appeal to particularly younger visitors.

This layout displayed at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum was originally planned as a December (2014) and January (2015) two month temporary layout. It was final taken down during May after a six month run. It is still looking for a permeant home as part of the history during WW-II, (hopefully) in Santa Barbara if possible.

Looking to build something similar for my grandson, who lives near the museum. Any suggestions as to a starting point (kent.schreiner@gmail.com). Thanks.

Greetings. Is there anywhere I can get a model of the Santa Barbara Depot?
